Self-organising assembly systems formally specified in Maude

This article recapitulates on the research done in self-organising assembly systems (SOAS) and presents the completed formal specifications and their simulation in Maude. SOAS are assembly systems that (1) participate in their own design by spontaneously organising themselves in the shop floor layout in response to the arrival of a product order and (2) manage themselves during production. The self-organising process for SOAS to design themselves follows the Chemical Abstract Machine (CHAM) paradigm: industrial robots self-select and self-arrange according to specific chemical rules in response to a product order with generic assembly instructions (GAP). This article presents an additional set of rules describing how the GAP is transformed into layout-specific assembly instructions, which is a kind of recipe for how the self-organising robots assemble the product

We define ’SPEM fragments’ of five methods for developing self-organising multi-agent systems. Self-organising traffic lights controllers provide an application scenario

Liability for Defective Pharmaceutical Products: The Italian Perspective

At the heart of the matter: the endocannabinoid system in cardiovascular function and dysfunction

Starting from the well-documented effects of marijuana smoking on heart rate and blood pressure, the cardiovascular effects of Δ⁹-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, the main psychotropic ingredient of Cannabis) and endocannabinoids [THC endogenous counterparts that activate cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB₁) and 2 (CB₂)] have been thoroughly investigated. These studies were mostly aimed at establishing the molecular bases of the hypotensive actions of THC, endocannabinoids and related molecules, but also evaluated their therapeutic potential in cardiac injury protection, metabolic cardiovascular risk factors and atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. The results of these investigations, reviewed here, also served to highlight some of the most peculiar aspects of endocannabinoid signaling, such as redundancy in endocannabinoid targets and the often dualistic role of CB₁ and CB₂ receptors during pathological conditions

Solid-liquid interfacial conditions for dropwise evaporative cooling

    No full text
A theoretical research is carried out to describe the thermal behavior of a solid surface subjected to droplet evaporative cooling. The objective of this study is the analysis of various simplified boundary conditions which can be used to generate predictions of the thermal behavior of the solid surface. This study is part of a more general research conducted in order to individuate the global cooling effect of a spray impinging a hot solid surface. A number of numerical algorithms are used to obtain solutions of the governing equations for the various cases examined. Results are presented for the different boundary conditions
