A brief introduction to the problems of comparative history, to its importance and difficulty. New trends in non-absorbable antibiotics in gastrointestinal disease
Numerous antibiotics have been used for several years in the treatment of intestinal diseases, the majority belonging to the class of aminoglycosides. These are effective against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria, above all aerobes, and do not therefore cover the entire range of microorganisms responsible for intestinal infections. With these antibiotics, moreover, it is not possible to exclude intestinal absorption which can lead to serious side effects. Other intestinal antibiotics, however, such as Vancomycin, have a restricted spectrum of action which limits their use. This study analyzes the pharmacological characteristics of a new non-absorbable antibiotics with particularly interesting properties from a clinical pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic point of view: Rifaximin. This drug has an extremely broad spectrum of action covering all intestinal germs, and its absorption is practically zero. The results of some controlled clinical studies in gastrointestinal diseases are examined, such as the treatment of infectious diarrhoea, of acute or chronic portal-caval encephalopathy and of diverticular disease of the colon. The possible role of Rifaximin in some intestinal diseases, such as small bowel bacterial overgrowth and Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, is also analyzed

Diffuse oesophageal leiomyomatosis
Diffuse leiomyomatosis of the oesophagus is a rare pathological condition characterised by diffuse hypertrophy of the oesophageal muscles, without involvement of the muscularis mucosae. This disease involves children and young adults, occasionally associated with other localisation of leiomyomatosis or with Alport’s syndrome.

Based both on Italian and Spanish sources, this essay attempts to analyze the relevant role the issue of Totalitarianism had in the relations of the Catholic Church both with Italian Fascism and with Spanish Francoism
A new historiography that looks at great transformation processes in the collective mentalities, at systems of beliefs and mass communication, has introduced a new "cultural" perspective in the history of Fascism. This new approach, however, has not yet been applied to the studies on Italian Catholicism. In this new perspective, the nationalization of the Italian people under Fascism seems deeply interconnected in a double manner with Catholic faith: Catholicism became part of the Italian nation and, at the same time, the idea Italians had of the nation mixed with Catholic mentality. This occurred through a complex historical process that can be examined through many different sources (journals, newspapwes, books). After a phase of "national Catholicism", ending in 1929, a "national Catholic perspective" followed. Finally, in the climate of the new Empire, Italy saw a sort of "Catholic-Fascism universalism". Even though this result was not fully intended by the regime, Italy was pervaded by a large ideological "koiné" based on the idea of a "Catholic Italy", which included all the myths that were peculiar to the popular masses of the country
