No full textNel dibattito storiografico sulla politica estera dell’amministrazione Kennedy, un tema su cui a lungo si è registrato un diffuso consenso è quello della discontinuità segnata dalla crisi dei missili: dopo aver ingaggiato un confronto serrato con l’Unione Sovietica tra il 1961 e il 1962, a seguito degli eventi dell’ottobre 1962, gli Stati Uniti di Kennedy avrebbero, secondo questa lettura, privilegiato la ricerca di un modus vivendi con Mosca. L’interpretazione emersa negli studi più recenti pone invece l’accento sulla propensione al dialogo che per l’intera durata della presidenza Kennedy coesistette con la volontà di rilanciare la competizione tra i due blocchi. Lʹarticolo sottolinea la continuità di questa politica di “doppio binario”.This article deals with international dimension of Kennedyʹs presidency. As far as foreign policy goes, JFKʹs records have been highly controversial, due to a polarized historiography. Concerning US relations with USSR during the thousand days, Kennedy has long been depicted either as the bold cold warrior who brought the arms race to new levels and took enormous risks to overthrow Castro and oppose the Soviets, or as a President deeply devoted to a quest for peace. Relying upon the ongoing historiographical debate, the article tries to offer a synthesis between these two opposite views

No full textIl 25 aprile 1915 le truppe dell’Intesa sbarcavano sulla penisola di Gallipoli (Turchia). L’offensiva si infranse contro una inaspettata capacità di difesa dei turchi, che nel dicembre 1915 la respinsero definitivamente. Fu però dalla tragedia della sconfitta subita a Gallipoli che scaturì il mito dell’eroismo dei soldati australiani e neozelandesi che avrebbe informato di sè l’identità nazionale.On April 25th 1915, the troops of the Entente arrived in Gallipoli (Turkey). The attack faced a strong and unexpected defense from the Turkish army that – in december 2015- pushed it away. From the tragedy and the defeat of the Gallipoli battle, arose a myth of heroism: that of the Australian and New Zealand’s soldiers. That same myth become soon enough the base of their blooming national identity

No full textOne of the major features of the 2016 U.S. presidential election campaign was the emergence of Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist who proved himself able to contend for victory with Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Party primaries. Based on Bernie Sanders’ biography and political platform, the article analyzes his view of socialism, its contents and its similarities with populism and the progressive tradition belonging to the outer wings of the Democratic Party itself. It is argued that, though Sanders defined himself as a democratic socialist, this might not be the most accurate way to summarize his political proposal
