Krueger H, Altobelli N, Anweiler B, et al. Five years of Ulysses dust data: 2000-2004. Planetary and Space Science. 2006;54(9-10):932-956.The Ulysses spacecraft has been orbiting the Sun on a highly inclined ellipse (i = 79 degrees, perihelion distance 1.3 AU, aphelion distance 5.4 AU) since it encountered Jupiter in 1992. Between January 2000 and December 2004, the spacecraft completed almost an entire revolution about the Sun, passing through perihelion in May 2001 and aphelion in July 2004. In this five-year period the dust detector on board recorded 4415 dust impacts. We publish and analyse the complete data set of both raw and reduced data for particles with masses 10(-16) g <= M <= 10(-7) g. Together with. 1695 dust impacts recorded between launch of Ulysses and the end of 1999 published earlier (Grain, E., Baguhl, M., Divine, N., Fechtig, H., Hamilton, D.P, Harmer, M.S., Kissel, J., Lindblad, B.A., Linkert, D., Linkert, G., Mann, L, McDonnell, J.A.M., Morfill, G.E., Polanskey, C., Riemann, R., Schwehm, G.H., Siddique, N., Staubach, P., Zook, H.A., 1995a. Four years of Ulysses dust data: 1996 to 1999. Planetary Space Sci. 49, 1303-1324, Paper VII), a data set of 6110 dust impacts detected with the Ulysses sensor between October 1990 and December 2004 is now available. The impact rate measured between 2000 and 2002 was relatively constant with about 0.3 impacts per day showing a maximum at 1.5 per day around ecliptic plane crossing in early-2001. The impact direction of the majority of impacts between 2000 and 2002 is compatible with particles of interstellar origin, the rest are most likely interplanetary particles. In 2003 and 2004 dust stream particles originating from the jovian system dominated the overall impact rate. Twenty-two individual dust streams were measured between November 2002 and December 2004. The observed impact rates are compared with models for interplanetary and interstellar dust. The dust measurements from the entire mission since Ulysses launch give good agreement with the interplanetary flux model of Staubach, P., Grun, E., Jehn, R., 1997. Galileo long-term dust monitoring in the Jovian magnetosphere

The Galileo spacecraft was launched in 1989, and—between 1995 and 2003—was the first spacecraft in orbit about Jupiter. The in-situ dust instrument on board was a highly sensitive impact-ionisation dust detector which measured the speed, mass and impact direction of dust particles hitting a metal target. It provided a unique 12-year record of cosmic dust in interplanetary and circumjovian space. Degradation of the instrument electronics caused by the harsh radiation environment in the inner jovian magnetosphere was recognised in various ways: the sensitivity for dust detection dropped by a factor of 7.5 between 1996 and 2003 while the noise sensitivity decreased by up to a factor of 100. Shifts in the parameters measured during dust impacts and noise events (charge amplitudes and signal rise times, etc.) required a time-dependent algorithm for noise identification. After noise removal a total of 21 224 complete data sets for dust impacts (i.e. impact charges, signal rise times, impact direction, etc.) is available from the entire Galileo mission between 1989 and 2003 (18 340 data sets from the Jupiter mission after 1996). This homogeneous data set has been used in many investigations of jovian dust published already or ongoing. Electronics degradation prevents the application of the mass and speed calibration to data obtained after 2000. Only in cases where the impact speed of grains is known by other means can grain masses be derived for later measurements. The drop of the detection sensitivity also required a time-dependent correction for fluxes of jovian dust streams, reaching a factor of 20 in 2002. We use the derived homogeneous noise-removed data set for long-term monitoring of the jovian dust streams with Galileo. The derived fluxes of dust stream particles were highly variable by about five orders of magnitude, between 3×10-3 and and exhibited strong orbit-to-orbit variability. This extensive and valuable data set is available for further detailed investigations

Ambient temperature ligation of diene functional polymer and peptide strands onto cellulose via photochemical and thermal protocols

    No full text
In the present contribution, two novel ambient temperature avenues are introduced to functionalize solid cellulose substrates in a modular fashion with synthetic polymer strands (poly(trifluoro ethyl methacrylate), PTFEMA, M n = 4400 g mol-1, D = 1.18) and an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) containing peptide sequence. Both protocols rely on a hetero Diels-Alder reaction between an activated thiocarbonyl functionality and a diene species. In the first - thermally activated - protocol, the cellulose features surface-expressed thiocarbonylthio compounds, which readily react with diene terminal macromolecules at ambient temperature. In the second protocol, the reactive ene species are photochemically generated based on a phenacyl sulfide-decorated cellulose surface, which upon irradiation expresses highly reactive thioaldehyde species. The generated functional hybrid surfaces are characterized in-depth via ToF-SIMS and XPS analysis, revealing the successful covalent attachment of the grafted materials, including the spatially resolved patterning of both synthetic polymers and peptide strands using the photochemical protocol. The study thus provides a versatile platform technology for solid cellulose substrate modification via efficient thermal and photochemical ligation strategies. © 2014 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Among airlines and aircraft manufacturers there is much attention for passenger experience. However, there is not much literature on how the activities of passengers can be supported by the aircraft interior. The current study focuses on the need finding and requirements analysis of flight passengers. Twenty-three activities were defined based on retrospective interviews and brainstorming sessions. Respondents were asked to rate their overall perception related to the importance of each of those 23 activities on a Linkert scale, from "not at all important" to "extremely important". On a separate question they were also asked to rate their overall satisfaction by each of the same activities, ranging from "not at all satisfactory" to "extremely satisfactory". These scales were assessed for those who travel alone, together or within groups, and those who travel with kids under six years. Five of the most common cabin configurations for long haul flights were also presented to respondents, and based on their choices, seat choice behavior of each passenger type in each row was analyzed. The results show that resting and relaxing, using the restroom and sleeping were the most important activities to all passengers, while talking to neighbors and other group mates, as well as playing or working with cellphones were the least important activities. In addition, passengers' satisfaction while watching in-flight movies, thinking and observing as well as checking real-time flight status were the most satisfactory among other activities. Sleeping and in-/egress of the seat were the least satisfactory activities. Also, activities such as "taking care of family" are the least satisfactory in the context of long haul flight for group travelers. Group travelers' satisfaction rate by "Interacting with flight attendants" was also not the same as that of other travelers. Seat preferences in each configuration is very similar. individual and couple travelers are similar in preferring window and window-aisle seats, while for group travelers seating together is the first priority over seating next to a window.Applied Ergonomics and Desig

Because of setup in level of diarrhea, 2 cases with the percentage of 6.0% left the treatment on the 3rd day of diagnosis. Females were 11 with the percentage of 61% from the 18 reacted cases and were older in age comparatively. Details are shown in the below table. Conclusion: According to the results of our study, Rifaximin was observed to deliver most liberation in the indications and treatment of IBS-D Key Words: Diarrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome IBS and Rifaximin

Metadata matters:access to image data in the real world

Data sharing is important in the biological sciences to prevent duplication of effort, to promote scientific integrity, and to facilitate and disseminate scientific discovery. Sharing requires centralized repositories, and submission to and utility of these resources require common data formats. This is particularly challenging for multi-dimensional microscopy image data, which are acquired from a variety of platforms with a myriad of proprietary file formats (PFFs). In this paper, we describe an open standard format that we have developed for microscopy image data. We call on the community to use open image data standards and to insist that all imaging platforms support these file formats. This will build the foundation for an open image data repository. © 2010 Linkert et al.
