Jewish youth movement blau-weiss in Czechoslovakia (1918-1933)
The study deals with the question of the formation of the Jewish youth movement Blau-Weiss in the period before the year of 1918 and at the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic. Analysis focuses on the ideological divide and philosophical transition of the scout organization Blau-Weiss (focusing on being in nature) in the Zionist movement Techelet Lavan successfully disseminating ideas of Zionism between the German Jewish youth in the Czechoslovak Republic. The issue of movement Blau-Weiss is put in context with the development of other Jewish youth movements – Czech, German or Zionist.
The Gender Pay Gap
Empirical research on gender pay gaps has traditionally focused on the role of gender-specific factors, particularly gender differences in qualifications and differences in the treatment of otherwise equally qualified male and female workers (i.e., labor market discrimination). This paper explores the determinants of the gender pay gap and argues for the importance of an additional factor, wage structure, the array of prices set for labor market skills and the rewards received for employment in favored sectors. Drawing on joint work with Lawrence Kahn, I illustrate the impact of wage structure by presenting empirical results analyzing its effect on international differences in the gender gap and trends over time in the gender differential in the U.S.

Oxalate, glycolate, glycerate, sulfate, and citrate
Measurement of oxalate in urine is important for diagnosis of primary hyperoxaluria and the secondary forms resulting from excessive intake or abnormal intestinal absorption of oxalate. Determination of glycolic acid is essential for diagnosis of primary hyperoxaluria type I (PH I), caused by low or absent activity of the liver-specific peroxisomal alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase. Primary hyperoxaluria type II (PH II) is caused by low or absent activity D-glycerate dehydrogenase and hydroxypyruvate reductase activity, leading to elevated urinary excretion of both oxalate and L-glyceric acid. Ion chromatography HPLC is the method of choice the quantification of oxalate, glycolate, and glycerate and use of urinary filter spots is a practical alternative approach for the collection and safe transport of samples to be analyzed for many metabolic disorders

Blau arteritis resembling Takayasu disease with a novel NOD2 mutation
To put forward a new concept--Blau arteritis, a form of large-vessel vasculitis phenotypically related to Takayasu disease but genetically and clinically part of an expanded phenotype of Blau syndrome.status: Publishe
Blau Syndrome, the prototypic auto-inflammatory granulomatous disease.
Blau syndrome is a monogenic disease resulting from mutations in the pattern recognition receptor NOD2, and is phenotypically characterized by the triad of granulomatous polyarthritis, dermatitis and uveitis. This paper reviews briefly the classical clinical features of the disease, as well as more recently described extra-triad symptoms. From an ongoing prospective multicenter study, we provide new data on the natural history of Blau syndrome, focusing on functional status and visual outcome. We also present an update of the range of different NOD2 mutations found in Blau syndrome as well as recent data on morphologic and immunohistochemical characteristics of the Blau granuloma. Finally, emerging insights into pathogenic mechanisms including activation of NOD2 signal transduction, and potential biomarkers of disease activity are discussed
Review Of The Child Care Problem: An Economic Analysis By D. M. Blau
Although the importance of child-care quality has been much studied and discussed, the child-care market has not responded with increases in quality. Why mediocre quality persists and how this situation can be improved are major foci of this excellent work, which is divided into three parts: the first offers an overview of the child-care market and of economic models for understanding it; the second is a detailed presentation of empirical analyses of market characteristics including supply, demand, and quality; the third examines existing public policy followed by the author\u27s proposal for an incentive-based policy for addressing problems in the child-care market. Blau (Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) devotes substantial effort to providing noneconomist readers with the background necessary for understanding the economic approach to analyzing markets and the interaction of markets and public policy. He also presents and analyzes research by developmental psychologists on quality and child outcomes. The book integrates previously published and unpublished work by the author and various coauthors as well as new analyses. By pulling this careful and original research together and incorporating it with a solid overview and policy reviews and recommendations, Blau provides an essential work on child-care economics and public policy.
