    Timing and modes of granite magmatism in the core of the Alboran Domain, Rif chain, northern Morocco: Implications for the Alpine evolution of the western Mediterranean

    The Betic-Rif orogen forms the western termination of the Alpine orogenic system in the Mediterranean region. The precise timing, structural evolution, and distribution of high-grade metamorphic units (Alpine versus pre-Alpine) in the inner zones of the orogen (Alboran Domain) remain controversial issues. In this paper we report occurrence of distinct generations of peraluminous granitic bodies intruded within Beni Bousera peridotites and their amphibolite-to-granulite facies envelope, in the core of the Alboran Domain of the Rif chain (northern Morocco). These granitic bodies are central to the reconstruction of the high-grade evolution of the Alboran Domain because they provide first-order structural markers to assess the P-T-t deformation history of the high-grade terranes. Here we document the petrography and structural relationships with the host rocks and constrain the timing of granite emplacement using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry U-Pb zircon and/or monazite dating, complemented by Ar-40/(39) Ar dating. The results indicate that granite emplacement occurred in two major episodes of anatectic magmatism, during the Hercynian (circa 300 Ma) and Alpine (circa 22 Ma) periods, respectively. These data (1) provide conclusive evidence for an important phase of Hercynian magmatism and high-grade metamorphism in the Alboran Domain and (2) permit a revaluation of the significance of the high-grade early Miocene event documented in the Alboran Domain in terms of a late stage, thermal pulse that reworked a polymetamorphic (Hercynian and Alpine) nappe pile. These results provide new constraints for construction of a feasible tectonometamorphic model for the Alpine evolution of the western Mediterranean. Citation: Rossetti, F., T. Theye, F. Lucci, M. L.     Impact of oleuropein on rheology and breadmaking performance of wheat doughs, and functional features of bread

    Oleuropein (OP) is a polyphenol present in drupes and leaves of olive tree with health benefits and, as antioxidant, potentiality to alter gluten functionality. Effects of OP inclusion to wheat flour (0.01% and 0.02% on flour weight basis) on dough rheology and breadmaking performance, and bread features were investigated. Farinograph, uniaxial extension and shear rheometry (oscillatory and creep-recovery) were applied. Doughs containing OP were stronger, more elastic, and less sticky indicating the ability of OP to act as flour improver. The strengthening effect of OP on gluten led to the increase in bread volume and softer crumb compared to control. A lower crumb density of bread with the addition of OP was related to a higher in vitro glycaemic response. An increase in the antioxidant capacity of bread made with the phenolic compound was also found

    Mt. Melbourne (2,732 ma.s.l.) is a large quiescent stratovolcano located in Northern Victoria Land (Antarctica) and is one of a handful of volcanoes on the Antarctic plate with the potential for large-scale explosive eruptions. During the XVIII Italian Expedition in 2002– 2003, the Mt. Melbourne volcanic succession was studied in terms of stratigraphy and sampled for 40Ar/39Ar age determinations and geochemistry. The early, Lower Pleistocene, volcanism was largely alkali basaltic to hawaiitic in composition and monogenetic in style, producing tens of small scoria cones and lava flows scattered over a wide area across the Transantarctic Mountains (Random Hills Period). During the Middle Pleistocene, volcanic activity focused to the area of the Mt. Melbourne stratovolcano, where several monogenetic centres show the transition from early subglacial/ subaqueous conditions to emergent subaerial conditions (Shield Nunatak Period). The oldest exposed deposit associated with the early activity of the Mt. Melbourne stratovolcano (Mt. Melbourne Period) is a trachytic subaerial ignimbrite dated at 123.6±6.0 ka, which reflects the establishment of a crustal magma chamber. Above the ignimbrite a succession of alkali basaltic, hawaiitic, and subordinate benmoreitic lavas and scoria cones is exposed, dated at 90.7±19.0 ka. The Holocene deposits are exposed at the top of Mt. Melbourne, where the crater rim is composed of trachytic to rhyolitic pumice fall deposits, which are also extensively dispersed around the volcano, likely originated from Plinian-scale eruptions. The most recent explosive deposit proved difficult to date accurately because very low quantities of radiogenic 40Ar were released, resulting in imprecise plateau ages of 50±70 and 35±22 ka

    L'articolo definisce la relazione tra il nioi (profumo) e l'omokage (illusione), due delle principali modalità di collegamento delle strofe nella poesia a catena di Basho. Secondo Kyorai, uno dei più importanti allievi di Basho, il “nioi riguarda la profondità del collegamento, l'omokage il contenuto del collegamento". Partendo da questa definizione, l'articolo analizza gli esempi di nioi e omokage presentati dagli allievi di Basho al fine di dimostrare che il nioi non è una modalità di collegamento, in quanto consiste nel cogliere l'atmosfera della strofa che precede e nel suggerirla nella strofa che segue; inoltre, che l'omokage può essere considerato una forma di nioi essendo un modo di alludere alla letteratura classica.The essence of haikai poetry lies in the way the poet links his verse to the previous one. Therefore, to understand the distinctive style of a work or an author, we must study the types of links in that work or author. The so-called nioizuke, which consists of nioi, utsuri, hibiki, kurai and omokage, is regarded as typical of Bashō. This article focuses on the relationship between nioi and omokage. Bashō’s disciple Kyorai wrote: «Nioi is related to the extent of the link. Omokage is related to the content of the link». Starting from this definition, the article ana- lyzes the examples of nioi and omokage suggested by Bashō’s disciples in order to demonstrate that nioi is not a type of link, but consists of grasping the subtle atmosphere of the previous verse to suggest it by overtones in the added verse; second, as a way to make subtle allusion to the classical literature, omokage may be considered as a type of nioi

    USING MIXTURE, MULTI-PROCESS, AND OTHER MULTI-DIMENSIONAL IRT MODELS TO ACCOUNT FOR EXTREME AND MIDPOINT RESPONSE STYLE USE IN PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT

    The validity of interpreting questionnaire results is threatened by the possible overuse of extreme and midpoint response options. Since respondents may view the response options in different ways, accounting for midpoint (MRS) and extreme response style (ERS) use is important for accurate estimation of the latent trait. Biased sum scores provide poor trait estimates for two people with the same latent trait yet different response styles. With the categorical view of response styles, respondents are seen as having a certain response style or not and are classified into different groups. The mixture graded response and mixture partial credit models were compared in this study. With the continuous view of response styles, respondents are seen as having varying degrees of different response style traits. A multidimensional model estimates substantive and response style trait levels for each person. A Multi-process model (M-PM) was used in this study to break down the response process into two and three subprocesses used in completing a five point Likert scale. The Multidimensional Partial Credit (MPCM) and Multidimensional Nominal Response (MNRM) models with substantive and response style scoring functions were also explored. This study used an existing data set to investigate how the five different IRT models for addressing ERS and MRS performed for three different personality subscales (Anxiety, Openness to Experience Feelings, and Compliance) from the German version of Costa and McCrae’s NEO Personality Inventory-Revised. Each subscale illustrated different relationships with and uses of ERS and MRS traits. The response process traits of the M-PM differed from response style traits of the other models. The two and three class mixture models, the two and three dimensional MNRM and MPCM, and the two process model for intensity ERS and direction fit better than standard IRT models. ERS accounted for more item response variability than MRS. The MPCM is suggested to account for ERS and MRS due to the number of estimated parameters and amount of explained variability in item responses. The results are compared with each other and to results from a previous study. Limitations of this study and ideas for future research are presented

    Design and implementation of a vertical ERP to improve the purchase, sale and storage processes of the D´Lucci Bag company

    La presente investigación de tipo aplicada tuvo como objetivo determinar en qué medida el diseño y la implementación de un ERP vertical mejoran los procesos de compra, venta y almacén en la empresa D´Lucci Bag – 2019”, mejorando el proceso de comercialización, además, de reducir el tiempo para realizar una venta directa, una venta electrónica, emitir una orden de compra y el control de stock. Para el desarrollo del ERP vertical se utilizó la metodología RUP, se apl icó esta me todología trad icional, porq ue es más apropiada para g randes p royectos y donde sus requer imientos son más resis tentes a los camb ios. Además, se utilizó un diseño pre experimental aplicada a una muestra de 60 procesos. Se halló diferencias significativas en la reducción del tiempo para realizar una ven ta di recta, una venta elect rónica, emi tir una orden de comp ra y el control de stock. Asimismo, se encontraron disminuciones significativas en los tiempos de los indicadores de 20, 23, 26 y 25 minutos respectivamente después haber implementado el ERP vertical. Finalmente se concluye, que el diseño y la implementación de un ERP vertical mejoraron significativamente los procesos de compra, venta y almacén en la empresa D´Lucci Bag, 2019

    Robust Control of a Submarine Snorkel System

    This paper illustrates a control strategy for a submarine snorkel able to assure that the water surface profile can be tracked by the extremity of the device, called "fluctuating head". The proposed solution is based on adaptive output regulation theory. More precisely, it is assumed that wave profile can be approximated as a linear combination of a number of harmonics of unknown amplitude, phase and frequency and we look for an internal model-based adaptive regulator able to enforce the top of the mast to track the reference profile. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive scheme is shown through simulations
