Multidimensional Preventive Intervention on Eating Disorders and Obesity in the Life Cycle-How to Guarantee an Adequate Quality of Life
Educational Interventions in Emergency Contexts. Editorial Prefece
The aim of this special issue is to foster state-of-the-art research in this topic and to collect proposals for support for parents and teachers to people with difficulties that have been experimentally verified from first principles of research methodology and scientific basis of experimental pedagogy
Motivational aspects and personality correlates of physical exercise behavior
Although exercise can have many advantages, there are still many people that tend to be less active. For this reason, an attempt was made to understand the factors related to physical activity and those related to encouraging exercise, which is an essential area of health promotion and a priority in preventing serious diseases. The aim of the study was to analyze psychological factors (personality traits and motivation) related to physical activity and those encouraging or reducing exercise. 474 volunteers who regularly exercise were recruited for the study. The participants completed the Big Five Questionnaire and Behavioral Regulation Exercise Questionnaire-2, and their exercise frequency was recorded. The results showed that personality traits and motivation are strongly related to exercise frequency and that both seem to play a significant predictive role in structuring exercise behavior
Parenting Skills and Non-compliance: Parent Training for Families with Mildly Mentally Retarded Children
The aim of this research was to explore parent-child interaction processes. In particular, parent training was experimented in order: a) to modify parents’ misguided beliefs about mental retardation and children’s behavioural problems; b) to reduce parental stress and increase parenting skills. 28 couples of parents with mentally retarded children were tested. The experimental group was trained in communication and self-regulation strategies, and behavioural and educational techniques for child management. The results proved the efficacy of parent training. Compared to parents in the control group, those in the experimental group showed marked changes in their perception of children's problems, lower stress level and greater parental competences
motivazione all’esercizio fisico, predisposizione
a disturbi del comportamento alimentare e dipendenza
dall’esercizio. I risultati evidenziano
differenze significative: i bodybuilder mostrano

The role of parental control and coping strategies on adolescents’ problem behaviors
The current study was aimed at contributing to the understanding of the role of perceived parental monitoring, psychological control, and coping strategies on adolescents’ problem behaviors, in terms of anxiety and drinking behavior. Participants were 541 high school students, 17 to 19-year old (M = 17.09, SD = 0.80) high school students in Sicily and Calabria (Italy). Participants completed self-report measures assessing parental monitoring, psychological control, coping strategies (i.e., Task-Oriented, Emotion-Oriented, and Avoidance-Oriented). Results of the path analysis showed that coping strategies play a mediating role in the association between parental psychological control and both adolescents’ anxiety and drinking behavior. Furthermore, a direct positive association was reported from parental psychological control and anxiety, while a negative direct association was reported from parental monitoring to drinking behavior. Results of this study provide a comprehensive model that showed that the different coping strategies could explain the psychological mechanisms that underline the associations between two different kinds of parental control (psychological control and monitoring) and both internalizing and externalizing adolescents’ form of maladjustment (e.g. anxiety and drinking behaviors). Overall, coping strategies seem to be a fruitful target for the prevention programs for adolescents’ anxiety and drinking behaviors
