    145-152<span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family:" times="" new="" roman";mso-fareast-font-family:"times="" roman";="" mso-ansi-language:en-us;mso-fareast-language:en-us;mso-bidi-language:ar-sa"="" lang="EN-US">A cumulative index of geophysics for the two most important journals "Geophysics" and "Geophysical Prospecting" in the field of exploration geophysics for the period 1936-1985 was analyzed for author productivity trends. Author Productivity trends were tested for the application of Lotka's law by applying K-S statistical test. Two files were generated out of this data base; one for the period 1936-1985 and the other for the period 1936-1976 to test the time sensitivity of Lotka's law. Lotka's law did not apply as inverse square law but could apply satisfactorily with exponent value of 2. 1 on author productivity distribution patterns of both the files.</span

    Crowdsourcing Methods for Data Collection in Geophysics: State of the Art, Issues, and Future Directions

    Data are essential in all areas of geophysics. They are used to better understand and manage systems, either directly or via models. Given the complexity and spatiotemporal variability of geophysical systems (e.g., precipitation), a lack of sufficient data is a perennial problem, which is exacerbated by various drivers, such as climate change and urbanization. In recent years, crowdsourcing has become increasingly prominent as a means of supplementing data obtained from more traditional sources, particularly due to its relatively low implementation cost and ability to increase the spatial and/or temporal resolution of data significantly. Given the proliferation of different crowdsourcing methods in geophysics and the promise they have shown, it is timely to assess the state of the art in this field, to identify potential issues and map out a way forward. In this paper, crowdsourcing-based data acquisition methods that have been used in seven domains of geophysics, including weather, precipitation, air pollution, geography, ecology, surface water, and natural hazard management, are discussed based on a review of 162 papers. In addition, a novel framework for categorizing these methods is introduced and applied to the methods used in the seven domains of geophysics considered in this review. This paper also features a review of 93 papers dealing with issues that are common to data acquisition methods in different domains of geophysics, including the management of crowdsourcing projects, data quality, data processing, and data privacy. In each of these areas, the current status is discussed and challenges and future directions are outlined.Water Resource

    Discrete representations for Marchenko imaging of imperfectly sampled data

    Marchenko imaging is based on integral representations for focusing functions and Green’s functions. In practice, the integrals are replaced by finite summations. This works well for regularly sampled data, but the quality of the results degrades in a case of imperfect sampling. We have developed discrete representations that account for imperfect sampling of the sources (or, via reciprocity, of the receivers). These representations contain point-spread functions that explain the blurring of the focusing functions and Green’s functions due to imperfect sampling. Deblurring the focusing functions and Green’s functions involves multidimensional deconvolution for the point-spread functions. The discrete representations form the basis for modifying Marchenko imaging to account for imperfectly sampled data, which is important for field data applications.Accepted author manuscriptImPhys/Medical ImagingApplied Geophysics and Petrophysic
