Misurare in psicologia. Il modello di Rasch
No full textLa discussione concernente il problema della misurazione in psicologia e più ampiamente nelle scienze del comportamento, è sempre attuale ed in evoluzione. In questo volume le autrici pongono il problema della costruzione di variabili quantitative in psicologia e lo affrontano secondo la prospettiva della modellazione formale, proponendo la soluzione offerta dal Simple Logistic Model di Rasch (1960/1980). La trattazione è aderente alla letteratura più classica sull'argomento (e.g. Wright e Masters, 1982; Andrich, 1988; Fischer e Molenaar, 1995; Embretson e Hershberger, 1999; Bond e Fox, 2001) nell'intento di sottolineare ancora una volta, in particolare, due importanti aspetti per la ricerca in psicologia: a) il significato e la complessità del problema della misurazione; b) la semplicità e il rigore della proposta di Rasch nell'offrire una soluzione al problema.
Il volume è dedicato agli studenti e ai ricercatori che non hanno mai affrontato in maniera sistematica lo studio di quell'insieme di formalizzazioni denominato "i modelli di Rasch" e che quindi desiderano conoscere gli elementi fondamentali di quella famiglia di modelli, che insieme formano la Teoria dei Tratti Latenti. La materia qui trattata consente inoltre di addentrarsi nella comprensione della struttura parametrica e in quella probabilistica del Modello Semplice Logistico di Rasch, delle procedure per la stima dei suoi parametri, dei metodi di validazione del modello e in fine di alcuni ambiti applicativi, nei quali specifiche variabili psicologiche sono costruite in una prospettiva quantitativa

No full textIn this paper a set of items indicators of the dimension named "Mental Health Locus of Origin" is examined according to two different approaches.
Data obtained from the applicatin of the "Mental Health Locus of Control Scale" to 230 subjects aged between 19 and 35 years, are elaborated on the base of two methods which belong respectively to the classic test theory and to the latent trait theory.
Both methods have evidenced a group of items which are not consistent within the dimension.
The approach based on the latent trait theory is taken into particular consideration; two extensions of the simple logistic model by Rasch are applied to the data: the "rating scale model" and the "dispersion location model".
The advanteges of the latent trait theory perspective are discussed

Enhancing Computerized Adaptive Testing with Batteries of Unidimensional Tests
No full textThe article presents a new computerized adaptive testing (CAT) procedure for use with batteries of unidimensional tests. At each step of testing, the estimate of a certain ability is updated on the basis of the response to the latest administered item and the current estimates of all other abilities measured by the battery. The information deriving from these abilities is incorporated into an empirical prior that is updated each time that new estimates of the abilities are computed. In two simulation studies, the performance of the proposed procedure is compared with that of a standard procedure for CAT with batteries of unidimensional tests. The proposed procedure yields more accurate ability estimates in fixed-length CATs, and a reduction of test length in variable-length CATs. These gains in accuracy and efficiency increase with the correlation between the abilities measured by the batteries
