The Effect Of Error Correcting Coding On Indoor Wireless Communications Systems In The 20 - 60 GHz Region

    No full text
As a follow-up of the literature study ’An Overview Of Indoor Wireless Communications Systems In Ilie 20 - 60 GHz Region’, published by B.J. Bout jand W.A. Schouten in December 1992, a further study has been performed to investigate the effect of Forward Error Correcting Coding on Indoor Wireless Communications Systems. This has been done by calculating the average fade- and non-fade duration as a function of the frequency and the Signal To Noise ratio. These results are conveyed to a Bit Error Probability. After that, the same calculations are done for the same channel, but with Forward Error Correcting Coding.Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceTelecommunicatie- en Verkeersbegeleidingssysteme

In response to a question left in suspense by P. Julien and R. Weitz in a 1979 article, the author shows that Antoine Baumé (1728-1804) had effectively belonged to the Royal Academy of Medicine of Madrid : elected corresponding member of this Academy quite probably between October 1775 and June 1776, he remained one undoubtedly until his death.Smeaton W.A. You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Novel Aerospace Material

Research Note: On the error behaviour of force and moment sources in simplicial spectral finite elements

    No full text
The representation of a force or moment point source in a spectral finite-element code for modelling elastic wave propagation becomes fundamentally different in degenerate cases where the source is located on the boundary of an element. This difference is related to the fact that the finite-element basis functions are continuous across element boundaries, but their derivatives are not. A method is presented that effectively deals with this problem. Tests on one-dimensional elements show that the numerical errors for a force source follow the expected convergence rate in terms of the element size, apart from isolated cases where superconvergence occurs. For a moment source, the method also converges but one order of accuracy is lost, probably because of the reduced regularity of the problem. Numerical tests in three dimensions on continuous mass-lumped tetrahedral elements show a similar error behaviour as in the one-dimensional case, although in three dimensions the loss of accuracy for the moment source is not a severe as a full order.Accepted Author ManuscriptApplied Geophysics and Petrophysic

Structured design of an external NMOS based linear voltage regulator for automotive applications

    No full text
The electronization of automobiles is considered to be a revolution in automotive technology development progress. System level integrated circuits are needed to simplify the automotive electronics design and increase the reliability of automobiles. In this thesis, a prototype of a linear voltage regulator is designed for system level integration. Instead of a conventional Internal PMOS or NMOS linear regulator topology, an external NMOS transistor produced by NXP is chosen as the pass device on considerations of certain commercial application. The parasitic inductance and capacitors of PCB traces and packaging are both modeled and calculated. The requirement differences of internal and external NMOS linear regulators are compared. This external NMOS transistor complicates the high-frequency design of this voltage regulator. The development of frequency compensation strategies as well as their implementation is the core of this work. Based on transistor models made by the author and the Root-Locus analysis method, the effectiveness of conceptual active compensation is examined in this thesis, and a passive frequency compensation scheme is proposed. This proposed scheme is not only able to accommodate the wide variation of load capacitor (470nF to 47μF) and the wide variation of load current (0 to 250mA) but also able to be compatible with the external NMOS. The effectiveness of passive frequency compensation is examined by both Root Locus analysis and transistor level simulation. The over-current protection of the NMOS linear regulator is also designed, which is realized by applying another current regulation loop to the voltage regulator. This voltage regulator is able to maintain a constant output current around 400mA in over-current protection scenario. The regulator quiescent current is 10μA, the output voltage accuracy is ±2%. At the end of this thesis, the performance aspects are discussed and analyzed, and the influence of parasitic PCB trace and packaging is examined.Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceMicroelectronic

Some aspects of the design and operation of water management systems

    No full text
This study deals with the design of water management systems. Attention is focused on that phase in the design process in which variants are developed and evaluated with emphasis on the evaluation. The proposed evaluation procedure combines an economic evaluation with an evaluation of the hydraulic qualities- The economic evaluation implicates the determination of the internal rate of return but reduces to the determination of the net present value of the cost if no agricultural production level can be defined- The evaluation of the hydraulic qualities involves the steady and non-steady design criteria for various land uses or for various return periods. The evaluation is presented in a balance sheet where the economic evaluation can be balanced against the degree to which the design fulfils the design criteria. This enables the designer to develop various variants while evaluating. An example of the application of the procedure is given- In search of a method to determine a nominal agricultural production level which is related to the water management scenario, a model was developed where all aspects related to crop yield were included on the condition that nutrient supply is optimal. All aspects include workability, crop development, harvest conditions etc. This model makes it possible to quantify the effect of different water management scenarios on crop yield. Two examples are presented where the model is appliedCivil Engineering and Geoscience
