Multi-Electron-Transfer Catalysts Needed for Artificial Photosynthesis

    No full text
Journal: 2011 MRS Fall Meeting Manuscript ID: Draft Manuscript Type: Symposium E Date Submitted by the Author: n/a Complete List of Authors: Vickers, James; Emory University, Chemistry Lv, Hongjin; Emory University, Chemistry Zhuk, Petro; National Aviation University, Geletii, Yurii; Emory University, Chemistry Hill, Craig; Emory University, Chemistry Keywords: catalytic, kinetics, oxidationWe report a study on catalytic water oxidation by cobalt in oxygen ligand environments because such systems are as promising as any in the water oxidation component of solar fuel production. We have re-examined the catalytic activity of Co(II) in aqueous solution using either [Ru(bpy)3]3+ as a stoichiometric oxidant or in visible-light-driven reactions with persulfate as a sacrificial electron acceptor. In both systems a distinctive induction period is observed. A simple kinetic model is proposed that describes the experimental data well. The presence of an induction period is explained by relatively slow formation of the true catalyst from aquacobalt(II)

Datasets and Variable Definitions for Cytochrome P450 Derived Eicosanoids and ASCVD

    No full text
This project is comprised of two distinct research cohorts of patients with clinically established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), defined as a prior revascularization procedure or current ≥ 50% coronary artery stenosis in a major coronary artery. In each cohort, biomarkers of cytochrome P450 mediated eicosanoid metabolism were quantified in plasma samples. UNC ASCVD Cohort #1 was assembled from 2012-2014 at UNC-Chapel Hill, as described in PMID: 26555503, and includes n=121 individuals with ASCVD at baseline. UNC ASCVD Cohort #2 was assembled from 2007-2010, at UNC-Chapel Hill, as described in PMID: 29155368 and 23466098, and includes n=139 individuals with ASCVD at baseline. Cytochrome P450 derived eicosanoid metabolites were quantified in plasma samples collected at baseline in each cohort, as described in PMID: 26555503 and 23466098. A file summarizing the number of individuals in each dataset (overall and with available eicosanoid metabolite biomarker and longitudinal follow-up data) is provided. For each cohort, a dataset file and variable definition file is provided

Agencies Interpreting Courts Interpreting Statutes: The Deference Conundrum of a Divided Supreme Court

    No full text
Plurality decisions from the U.S. Supreme Court demand interpretation, especially because they tend to occur when the Court faces important but divisive legal issues. Most courts, agencies, and scholars have assumed that federal agencies are in no better position to interpret plurality decisions than the lower federal courts when confronted with a potentially precedential Supreme Court plurality decision--the agency must construe the Justices--various opinions in search of a controlling rationale

The Evolving Landscape of Data Privacy and Cyber Security in the Financial Services Industry

    No full text
The regulation of data privacy and cyber security in the financial services sector is in its infancy. This is partly due to the fact that the regulation of Financial Services is fragmented with multiple regulators covering different risks across different entities including the Federal Reserve, FDIC, OCC, SEC, FINRA, CFPB, FinCEN, as well as all the applicable State Agencies covering traditional commercial banking, consumer lending, investment banking, and broker dealer activity. We will review what standards are currently being utilized by both the prudential regulators, the CFPB, as well as the New York Department of Financial Services, and the best practices that those in the commercial banking and consumer lending spaces should implement including review of the FFIEC\u27s Cyber Security tool. After our discussion of compliance on the front end, we will close with best practices to implement in the event of a breach and how the best practices put place prior to the breach will help in limiting your regulatory, reputational and litigation liability post breach

Unbalanced Bargaining: Trump Entertainment Resorts Unite Here Local 54 and Expired Collective Bargaining Agreements Under § 1113

    No full text
The author explores Trump Entertainment Resorts Unite Here Local 54, in which the Third Circuit considered, as an issue of first impression, whether a chapter 11 debtor-employer is able to reject the continuing terms and conditions of an expired collective bargaining agreement with its unionized employees under 11 U.S.C. § 1113. After analyzing this decision, the author argues that expired collective bargaining agreements are not subject to rejection or modification through § 1113. The author concludes by providing recommendations for judges, debtor-employers, and unions that attempt to balance the conflicting policy concerns surround bankruptcy and collective bargaining agreements
