    “La Surdité Familiale” by Giuseppe Gradenigo 1921

    Giuseppe Gradenigo was born in Venice in 1859, and he was a member of the noble Venetian family of the Gradenigo. After graduation in medicine in Padua, he went to Vienna where he deepened his studies in otology and embryology. He obtained, in 1888, the "libera docenza" in otology in Padua, and in 1889, he began to direct the -section of otolaryngology of the polyclinic of Turin. After a brilliant career in 1917, he took over the chair of otolaryngology at the University of Naples. Gradenigo was a pioneer in otolaryngology and audiology and a reference figure in the clinical and scientific fields. In this paper, the most important aspects about his works and his biography will be discussed

    Viene ricostruita l’attività di Adolfo Cozza (1848-1910), una figura poliedrica di archeologo, topografo, scultore, pittore e inventore che, agli inizi degli anni Ottanta dell’Ottocento, si adoperò per salvare la memoria degli affreschi delle tombe Golini I e II con la realizzazione di copie delle pitture. Tale attività si affiancò al suo impegno per l’allestimento del Museo Civico Archeologico a Orvieto.“Now I would promise myself to make the first real tracing”: Adolfo Cozza and the reproduction of the tombs Golini I and II. The activity of Adolfo Cozza (1848-1910), an eclectic figure of archaeologist, topographer, sculptor, painter and inventor, is illustrated here. In the early Eighties of the Nineteenth century, Cozza produced copies of the paintings of the Golini I and II tombs discovered in Orvieto, in order to preserve the memory of the scenes. He was also committed to the setting up of the Civic Archaeological Museum in Orvieto

Our approach consists in extending the techniques of NE recognition, based on sequence labelling, to address the special issues of this task, i.e. the presence of overlapping and discontiguous mentions and the requirement to map the mentions to unique identifiers.     SUMMARY: Weaddress the problem ofrecogni-tion ofmedical entities in clinical records written in Italian. We report on experiments performed on medical data in English provid-ed in the shared tasks at CLEF-ER 2013 and SemEval 2014. This allowed us to refine Named Entity recognition techniques to deal with the specifics of medical and clinical lan-guage in particular. We present two ap-proaches for transferring the techniques to Italian. One solution relies onthe creation of an Italian corpus of annotated clinical records and the other onadapting existing linguistic tools to the medical domain. RIASSUNTO. Questo lavoro affronta il problema del riconoscimento di entità mediche inrefer-ti medici in lingua italiana. Riferiamo su de-gli esperimenti svolti su testi medici in ingle-se forniti nei task di CLEF-ER 2013 e SemE-val 2014. Questi ci hanno consentito di raffi-nare le tecniche di Named Entity recognition per trattare le specificità del linguaggio me-dico e in particolare quello dei referti clinici. Presentiamo due approcci al trasferimento di queste tecniche all’italiano. Una soluzione consiste nella creazione di un corpus di refer-ti medici in italiano annotato con entità me-diche e l’altro nell’adattarestrumenti tradi-zionali per l’analisi linguistica al dominio medico

    Annotation and Extraction of Relations from Italian Medical Records

    We address the problem of extracting knowledge from large scale clinical records written in Italian by physicians. We perform recognition of relevant entities such as symptoms, diseases, treatments, measurements, drugs and so forth, and then we determine their semantic relations. We developed suitable training corpora in order to apply machine learning techniques to this task.
