Rogliano – La Coscia
On the Asymptotic Behavior of D-Solutions to the Displacement Problem of Linear Elastostatics in Exterior Domains
We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions with finite energy to the displacement problem of linear elastostatics in a three-dimensional exterior Lipschitz domain
Alpine Complex Landscape Environment

Étude préliminaire des restes de cervidés de la grotte de la Coscia (Rogliano, Haute-Corse)/A Preliminary study of cervid remains from the grotte de la Coscia (Rogliano, Haute-Corse)
A Preliminary study of cervid remains from the grotte de la Coscia (Rogliano, Haute-Corse). Excavations conducted since 1994 in the Cosicia cave have yielded abundant Upper Pleistocene endemic deer remains that are attributed to Megaceros (Nesoleipoceros) cazioti. These deer remains are mainly concentrated in level D where they represent the majority of the fauna recovered. Anatomic and biometric comparisons with Sardinian deer populations permit us to imagine a complex evolutionary history which likely occurred in different ways in Corsica and Sardinia. Room temperature visibile photoluminescence of silicon nanocrystallites embedded in amorphous silicon carbide matrix
The nanocrystalline silicon embedded in amorphous silicon carbide matrix was prepared by varying rf power in high vacuum plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition system using silane methane gas mixture highly diluted in hydrogen. In this paper, we have studied the evolution of the structural, optical, and electrical properties of this material as a function of rf power. We have observed visible photoluminescence at room temperature and also have discussed the role played by the Si nanocrystallites and the amorphous silicon carbide matrix. The decrease of the nanocrystalline size, responsible for quantum confinement effect, facilitated by the amorphous silicon carbide matrix, is shown to be the primary cause for the increase in the PL intensity, blueshift of the PL peak position, decrease of the PL width (full width at half maximum) as well as the increase of the optical band gap and the decrease of the dark conductivity
Enthesitis of the direct tendon of the rectus femoris muscle in a professional volleyball player: A case report
Enthesitis of the direct tendon of the rectus femoris muscle is a rare pathology which mainly affects professional athletes, and it is caused by overuse and repetitive microtrauma. Athletic jumping and kicking exert a great stress on the direct tendon of the rectus femoris muscle, and volleyball and football players are therefore most frequently affected. Enthesitis may occur suddenly causing pain and functional impairment possibly associated with partial or complete tendon injuries, or it may be a chronic condition causing non-specific clinical symptoms. We present the case of a professional volleyball player who felt a sudden pain in the left side of the groin area during a training session although she had suffered no accidental injury. The pain was associated with impaired ipsilateral limb function. Tendon rupture was suspected, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed. MRI showed a lesion at the myotendinous junction associated with marked inhomogeneity of the direct tendon. Ultrasound (US) examination confirmed the presence of both lesions and allowed a more detailed study of the pathology. This is a typical case of enthesitis which confirms that MRI should be considered the examination of choice in hip pain, particularly when the patient is a professional athlete, thanks to its panoramic visualization. However, also US is an ideal imaging technique for evaluating tendon injuries thanks to its high spatial resolution, and it can therefore be used effectively as a second line of investigation. © 2011 Elsevier Srl
