Power training in young athletes: Is it all in the genes?
Introduction. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of plyometric and isometric training protocol on power in 46 team sports (basketball: n = 23; volleyball: n = 23) players, also in relation to genetic background (i.e., ACE and PPARA genes polymorphisms). Methods. The following tests were administered: squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ), drop jump (dJ), sprint, handgrip, and agility test. Genetic analysis was based on saliva samples. Results. The training protocol proved to be effective in improving jump performance in basketball players and volleyball players, respectively: 25-meter sprint test (p = 0.006; p = 0.008); agility test (p = 0.000; p = 0.000); SJ test (p = 0.001; p = 0.000); CMJ test (p = 0.005; p = 0.000); and dJ test (p = 0.03 only for basketball players; dJ test improvement in volleyball players was not significant), regardless of sports practice. Furthermore, data confirm that the 'd' allele of ACE and the 'C' allele of PPARA are positive alleles associated to power and strength performances. Conclusions. The importance to train strength skills should be emphasized, above all through isometric and plyometric exercises, not neglecting the key role played by the genetic background
A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams
We create a new multi-language corpus for author verification based on Wikipedia talkpages, and evaluate the influence that differences in topic and time have on character n-gram author profiles. State of the community service sector in NSW 2015
Based on survey data collected from leaders of 513 organisations, the report provides rich information about sector capacity, sustainability, and engagement with government. It shows the sector\u27s strengths as a collaborative, diverse and feminised industry. It also shows leaders\u27 perspectives on the challenges facing the sector. These include adapting to policy change and meeting social need at a time that many organisations are affected by funding loss, funding inadequacy, and funding insecurity.  
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The vanishing author in computer-generated works: a critical analysis of recent Australian case law
Abstract
The use of software is ubiquitous in the creation of many copyright works, yet the requirement in copyright law that every work have a human author who engages in independent intellectual effort means that its use may prevent copyright subsistence. Several recent Australian cases have refocused attention on authorship as an essential criterion of copyright subsistence, and these cases suggest that much computer-produced output may be authorless and thus lack copyright protection. This article, the first in a two-part series, analyses how each case deals with the question of authorship of computer-produced works and why the use of software diminishes copyright protection for a significant number of computer-generated works. The article critiques the application of conventional notions of human authorship developed in the pre-computer age to modern productions and suggests alternative approaches to authorship that satisfy both the major objectives of copyright policy and the need to adapt to the computer age. The article argues that, without a broader judicial approach to authorship of computer-generated works, Parliament must remedy the lacuna in protection for these ‘authorless’ works. Possible solutions for reform are suggested. In a forthcoming article, the author comprehensively examines those reform proposals
Session-RPE for quantifying load of different youth taekwondo training sessions
BACKGROUND: The session rating of perceived exertion (session-RPE) proved to be a valuable method to quantify the internal training load (ITL) in taekwondo. However, no study validated this method in youth taekwondo athletes performing different training sessions. Thus this study aimed at evaluating the reliability of the session-RPE to monitor the ITL of prepubescent taekwondo athletes during pre-competitive (PC) and competitive (C) training sessions. METHODS: Five female (age: 12.0±0.7 y; height: 1.54±0.08 m; body mass: 48.8±7.3 kg) and four male (age: 12.0±0.8 yrs; height: 1.55±0.07 m; body mass: 47.3±5.3 kg) taekwondo athletes were monitored during 100 individual sessions (PC: N.=33; C: N.=67). The Edwards' HR method was used as reference measure of ITL; the CR-10 RPE scale was administered at 1- and 30-minutes from the end of each session. RESULTS: No difference for gender emerged. The ITLs of C (Edwards: 228±40 arbitrary units, AU) resulted higher than that of PC (192±26 AU; P=0.04). Although all training typologies and data collections achieved significant correlations between Edwards' and session-RPE methods, a large relationship (r =0.71, P<0.001) emerged only for PC sessions evaluated at 30 minutes of the recovery phases. CONCLUSIONS: Findings support coaches of prepubescent taekwondo athletes to successfully use session-RPE to monitor the ITL of different training typologies. However, PC training evaluated at 30 minutes of the recovery phase represents the best condition for a highly reliable ITL perception
Diffusive author(s), cohesive author: Analysis of S/N (1994)
This study indicates the ways in which various aspects of the author(s) are brought forth in Dumb type’s performance art, the S/N production. Previous research has suggested a non-hierarchical organization of Dumb type and the absence of a “privileged author” in Dumb type’s collaborative work, S/N. However, the results that I have investigated from member’s interviews on the creative process of S/N along with my analysis of the recorded images of S/N, indicate a different aspect of the author(s). First, S/N was created through, so to speak, the collective ideas of the members of Dumb type. Further, S/N has at least nine quotations from previous performances, installations, and printed writings, besides the work-in-progress technique. Explicating one of the “author functions” as given by Michel Foucault, each text has plural subjects of the author. However, it has been revealed from members’ interviews that Teiji Furuhashi had a decision-making role in selecting the members’ ideas within the performance. Since then, S/N has had plural subjects of creation; however, Furuhashi is one of the subjects of creation along with the “privileged author.” S/N has plural authors (diffusive authors) yet at the same time, it has a “privileged author,” Teiji Furuhashi (cohesive author)
Building an industry of choice: service quality, workforce capacity and consumer-centred funding in disability care
Disability services in Australia are undergoing large-scale, systemic reform. In recent years, to improve outcomes for people with disabilities and the efficiency of services, Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies have developed and trialled a range of market-based funding models within which ‘choice’ and ‘control’ are key principles. This report is concerned with the impact of these funding models on disability services workers, with particular focus on their capacity to provide high quality services. The findings suggest service quality and workforce capacity may be best safeguarded where: direct employment and contracting models are carefully managed or avoided; overall levels of government funding and payments to consumers and service provider organisations are sufficient to support decent pay and safe working conditions; workers are supported to upgrade and develop their skills; and there is a properly resourced strategy to build workforce capacity and sustainability. The findings provide food for thought in the context of the design and launch of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Pollinator convergence and the nature of species' boundaries in sympatric Sardinian Ophrys (Orchidaceae)
† Background and Aims In the sexually deceptive Ophrys genus, species isolation is generally considered ethological
and occurs via different, specific pollinators, but there are cases in which Ophrys species can share a
common pollinator and differ in pollen placement on the body of the insect. In that condition, species are
expected to be reproductively isolated through a pre-mating mechanical barrier. Here, the relative contribution
of pre- vs. post-mating barriers to gene flow among two Ophrys species that share a common pollinator and
can occur in sympatry is studied.
† Methods A natural hybrid zone on Sardinia between O. iricolor and O. incubacea, sharing Andrena morio as
pollinator, was investigated by analysing floral traits involved in pollinator attraction as odour extracts both for
non-active and active compounds and for labellum morphology. The genetic architecture of the hybrid zone
was also estimated with amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers, and pollination fitness and
seed set of both parental species and their hybrids in the sympatric zone were estimated by controlled crosses.
† Key Results Although hybrids were intermediate between parental species in labellum morphology and nonactive
odour compounds, both parental species and hybrids produced a similar odour bouquet for active compounds.
However, hybrids produced significantly lower fruit and seed set than parental species, and the
genetic architecture of the hybrid zone suggests that they were mostly first-generation hybrids.
†Conclusions The two parental species hybridize in sympatry as a consequence of pollinator overlap and weak
mechanical isolation, but post-zygotic barriers reduce hybrid frequency and fitness, and prevent extensive introgression.
These results highlight a significant contribution of late post-mating barriers, such as chromosomal
divergence, for maintaining reproductive isolation, in an orchid group for which pre-mating barriers are often
considered predominant
Dissipative Range Scaling of Higher Order Structure Functions for Velocity and Passive Scalars
Differently to Kolmogorov's second similarity hypothesis, we find that the 2n-th order velocity and scalar structure functions scale with n-th order moment of the energy dissipation and the scalar dissipation, respectively. The origins of this scaling are analyzed by the transport equations of the fourth order velocity and scalar increment moments and by direct numerical simulations
