Against being born : on the works of Thierry De Cordier

    No full text
This essay on the works of Belgian artist Thierry De Cordier discusses the major themes of his oeuvre, which revolves around a depiction and an exemplary personification of the human condition. Central is the accident of birth, how to deal with it, and the futile attempts to undo birth. The interpretation distinguishes the mythical pre-linguistic symbolisation of immanent forces of nature from the developed, religious relationship to a transcendent divinity than can being addressed, and orders De Cordier's oeuvre on that basis. The text is included in the book 'ThierryDe Cordier. Passe-Montagne', published to accompany the exhibition of the same title at Galerie Hufkens in 2023 where TDC showed mainly text works ('Only words…').This essay on the works of Belgian artist Thierry De Cordier discusses the major themes of his oeuvre, which revolves around a depiction and an exemplary personification of the human condition.
