No full textThe articles in this special issue of Reflecting Education: Building Learning Capacity for Life emanated from the eighteenth international Education, Learning, Styles, Individual differences Network (ELSIN) conference held in Billund, Denmark in 2013. ELSIN is the only multidisciplinary international research organisation specifically promoting the importance of work on styles and other individual learning differences within educational and workplace contexts. The five articles comprising this special issue are representative of the broad focus of ELSIN in their coverage of a range of contexts. Participants of the present studies do not only originate from institutes in different countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, and Ireland), but also represent diverse education levels (school students; under-postgraduates in higher education), and a variety of disciplines (e.g., accountancy; business and economics; management; multimedia and communications)

Learning in higher education – how cognitive and learning styles matter
No full textThe cognitive and learning styles research domain is a highly complex one which has recently been the focus of rigour–relevance debates (Coffield et al. 2004; Evans and Sadler-Smith 2006; Rayner 2006). There is considerable support for the existence and value of style as a construct (Sternberg 1996) even though further work is needed to evidence greater impact on practice. This paper shares the work and experiences of one international research community – the European Learning Styles Information Network (ELSIN) and its attempts to advance understanding of the theory and application of cognitive and learning styles in higher education and other contexts. In so doing it highlights the principles around the development, collation and integration of research as exemplified by the ELSIN experience and considered by other research domains in higher education. Future directions for cognitive and learning styles research within the context of higher education are outlined along with the role of ELSIN in highlighting and leading on these
Taking a style perspective to understand organizational behavior: a four-decade review
No full textTo study whether public sector employees are a different type of employee with different expectations than the private sector employees, we look at differences in the generic dimensions of their psychological contract. Data from a survey of 4956 Belgian employees show that, compared to private sector employees, public sector employees attach less importance to career development opportunities and financial rewards promises, and perceive these promises as less fulfilled. They also perceive social atmosphere and work–life balance as less fulfilled. Furthermore, we observed significant gender differences in the importance and fulfilment of the psychological contract

Using styles for more effective learning in multicultural and e?learning environments
No full textPurpose– The purpose of this paper is to introduce this special issue, which contains selected papers from the 13th Annual European Learning Styles Information Network (ELSIN) conference held in Ghent, Belgium in June 2008. One of the key aims of ELSIN is to promote understanding of individual learning and cognitive differences through the dissemination of international multidisciplinary research about learning and cognitive styles and strategies of learning and thinking.Design/methodology/approach– Three papers within this special issue consider how style differences can inform the development of e?learning opportunities to enhance the learning of all (Vigentini; Kyprianidou, Demetriadis, Pombortsis and Karatasios; Zhu, Valcke and Schellens). The influence of culture on learning is also raised in the paper of Zhu et al. and those of Sulimma and Eaves which both focus more directly on cultural influences on style, learning and teaching.Findings– A number of key themes permeate the studies included in this special edition such as: the nature of styles; the intrinsic difficulty of isolating style variables from other variables impacting on performance; inherent difficulties in choosing the most appropriate style measures; the potential of e?learning to attend to individual learning differences; the role of culture in informing attitudes and access to learning; the development of constructivist learning environments to support learning through an understanding of individual differences and most importantly how one can apply such insights about individual differences to inform and enhance instruction.Originality/value– The papers in this special issue contribute to enhanced knowledge about the value of style differences to design constructive learning environments in multicultural and e?learning contexts

No full textE-commerce is tegenwoordig een bekend begrip en een veelgebruikte digitale toepassing. Om e-commerce draaiende te houden zijn pakketbezorgingsdiensten nodig die de pakketjes naar de klant brengen. De wereldwijde e-commerce verkoop is de afgelopen jaren gestegen, voornamelijk vanwege het gemak dat consumenten ervaren door hun goederen online te bestellen, waar en wanneer ze willen. De COVID-19 pandemie heeft aanzienlijke veranderingen teweeggebracht in de wereld van pakketbezorging. Tijdens de lockdowns en sluitingen van fysieke winkels, nam online winkelen een hoge vlucht. Dit zorgde voor een explosieve groei in de vraag naar pakketbezorging, wat een grote druk legde op de bezorgdiensten. Zelfs na heropening van de fysieke winkels, bleef de voorkeur voor online bestellen bestaan. De pandemie heeft ook de verwachtingen van consumenten veranderd; snelle levering binnen 24 uur wordt vaak als standaard gezien. Tegelijkertijd groeit de voorkeur voor bezorgopties zoals postpunten of pakketkluizen, wat wijst op een behoefte aan meer flexibiliteit in de bezorging
