Il examine sa structure et son fonctionnement et surtout sa contribution à faire avancer les intérêts grecs auprès de gouvernements de pays où s’activent d’importantes communautés grecques. C’est en premier lieu le cas de l’important lobby grec aux Etats-Unis et en second lieu les communautés d’Australie, du Canada et de l’Europe occidentale. L’auteur souligne en particulier la mobilisation de la communauté chypriote de Grande Bretagne en faveur de Chypre et contre l’occupation turque d`une partie de l’ ‘île.ABSTRACTThe author of this article depicts the Global World Greek Lobby with special reference to the Greek American lobby. The author examines its structure and functioning, and especially its contribution in advancing Greek interests with the governments of countries with large Greek communities. This is mainly the case of the important Greek lobby in the United States and secondarily in other countries, such as Australia, Canada and Western Europe. The author underlines in particular the mobilization of the Cypriot community in Britain against the Turkish occupation of a part of the island

Get PDFThis article draws the picture of the Greek immigrant in Quebec by focusing on the media, so much of the hellenophone as the francophone and Anglophone. First, the author presents some preliminary notions on the receiving country and the Greek immigration. Secondly, he presents the community’s hellenophone media with their problems, difficulties and their influences. Then, he analyzes the role and the influences of Greek newspapers/magazines that arrive daily from Greece, and finally, in the last part of the article, the author considers the impact of francophone and Anglophone media on the Greek community of Quebec.
The author presents empirical evidence pertaining to the importance of the hellenophone media in preserving the ethno-cultural identity of the Greeks in Quebec, noting that the degree of real=ding or listening to the francophone and Anglophone media constitutes an index of the integration of Greeks into the receiving country.Cet article dresse le portrait de l’immigrant grec au Québec par rapport aux médias, tant hellénophones que francophones et anglophone. Dans un premier temps, l’auteur présente quelques notions préliminaires sur le pays d’accueil et l’émigration grecque. Dans un deuxième temps il présente les médias hellénophones avec leurs problèmes, leurs difficultés et leur influence. Par la suite il analyse le rôle et l’influence des médias qui viennent de la Grèce. Enfin, dans une dernière partie il analyse l’influence des médias francophones et anglophones sur l’évolution de la communauté grecque du Québec
L’auteur met en évidence l’importance des médias hellénophones pour sauvegarder l’identité ethnoculturelle des Grecs du Québec, tout en notant par ailleurs que le taux de lecture ou d’écoute des médias francophones set anglophones constitue un indice de l’intégration des Grecs à la société d’accueil

The author presents the results of field work that show that the great majority of Greeks work in the garment, restaurant, cleaning and construction industries. Relying on these results, and on other information, the author observes that the working conditions of Quebec’s Greeks are below average, that they are both under-employed and over-exploited. He explains that they have been inadequately protected by legislation, and that their average earnings are below the national average.Cet article dresse le portrait socio-professionnel des Grecs du Québec. L’auteur présente les résultats d’une enquête sur le terrain qui montre que la grande majorité des Grecs est constituée de travailleurs dans les secteurs du bêtement, des services d’entretien, de la restauration et de la construction. En se basant sur les mêmes résultats, tout en les comparant avec d’autres données disponibles, l’auteur observe que les conditions de travail des Grecs du Québec sont en dessous de la moyenne, un grand nombre de ceux-ci étant sous-employés et surexploités. Il note aussi que la protection accordée par les lois est insuffisante et que leur revenu moyen est en dessous de la moyenne nationale

It notes that it is a migration of young people consisting of various categories: those who are Canadian citizens returning to Greece a few decades ago, and returning back to Canada, workers who have obtained a work permit and are accepted as permanent residents and students. The author examines how this lobby influences the foreign policymaking in Athens in the framework of a triadic relation: the host country, the lobby itself and the country of origin. He argues that the lobby doesn\u27t have a monolithic vision of Greek foreign policy. Some voices favour the revisionism introduced in the mid-1990\u27s while others stay attached to its traditional patterns. Academics in particular are more nuanced, considering the modernisation or Européanisation of the Greek foreign policy as a necessity. But few of them see a profound major change of this policy in the mid-1990\u27s, especially in terms of modernisation.
