Mandible strongly curved (Fig. 5 F), with subrectangular marginal tooth, apical region of each mandible aligns to the proximal region of the opposite mandible when closed. Inner margin of mandible serrated. Postmentum quadrangular. Forecoxa process subcylindrical. Head capsule with six long bristles; four laterally and two centrally. Pronotum with two to four long bristles on anterior lobe followed by a set of short bristles. Head capsule orange to reddish, body yellow. Measurements given in Table 3. Worker. Fontanelle inconspicuous. Postclypeus with a medium line light, inconspicuous. Measurements given in Table 2. Etymology. Augusto Matraga is a fictional character created by João Guimarães Rosa (Rosa 1966, translation), an important writer known for his work that values the country people of Minas Gerais. The author compares the strength of Augustus Matraga to termites: “(…) tired his body with hard work and said prayers for his soul, all this without effort, like the white ants that raise red mounds in the pasture (…)” (Op. cit.). Biological notes. Rhynchotermes matraga sp. nov. was collected with Winkler extractors without other biological data. Comparisons. The soldier of R. matraga sp. nov. is morphologically similar to R. piauy but is more robust with a wider head capsule and has proportionally shorter legs than R. piauy. In R. piauy the frontal tube length is almost as long as the head length while R. matraga sp. nov. has a frontal tube that is markedly longer than the head.Published as part of Constantini, Joice P. & Cancello, Eliana M., 2016, A taxonomic revision of the Neotropical termite genus Rhynchotermes (Isoptera, Termitidae, Syntermitinae), pp. 501-522 in Zootaxa 4109 (5) on page 510, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4109.5.1, http://zenodo.org/record/26054

Tonsuritermes mathewsi Constantini & Carrijo & Palma-Onetto & Scheffrahn & Carnohan & Šobotník & Cancello 2018, sp. nov.
Tonsuritermes mathewsi Cancello & Constantini sp. nov. (Figs. 2 E–F; 3C; 6) Holotype: worker from lot MZUSP 12268, (in a separate vial with the remaining sample). Type-locality: BRAZIL. Mato Grosso: Chapada dos Guimarães, lat 15.4605S, long 55.7497W. Type-repository: MZUSP Paratypes. BRASIL. Goiás: Anápolis, lat 16.3266S, long 48.9527W, DE Oliveira coll., UEG 4075; same data of holotype sample: 04.viii.2009, TF Carrijo coll., MZUSP 12268, 12615, 27374; 04.viii.2009, MR Rocha coll., MZUSP 23920. Diagnosis. Monomorphic worker; head capsule with long bristles of almost the same size and bristles of tergites scattered. Imago. Unknown. Worker. Monomorphic (Fig. 2 E–F). Head capsule with long bristles of almost the same size. Bristles of tergites scattered. Postclypeus hyper-inflated. Fontanelle 1/4 diameter of head capsule in dorsal view. Protibia strongly inflated, with a groove in the inner surface of the profemur. Comparison and remarks. A huge variation at the head pilosity, number of spine-like bristles on the protibia, and form and size of the fontanelle were observed among the samples of the new genus, which makes the distinction of the two species quite challenging. Despite the similarity between Tonsuritermes tucki and Tonsuritermes mathewsi, the latter, with monomorphic workers, is restricted to the Brazilian savannah, the Cerrado, while the dimorphic T. tucki, was collected primarily in forests and was sampled mostly (but not only) in forest formations. The head of T. tucki has bristles of two sizes, and those on tergites are all pointing backwards, while in T. mathewsi the bristles are same size, long on the head, and in the tergites, the bristles are pointing in multiple directions. The postclypeous of T. mathewsi is more inflated than in T. tucki. The workers of T. mathewsi are larger than T. tucki (Tab. 2) and the fontanelle is on average lower in T. mathewsi than W2 of T. tucki. In addition, the protibia of T. mathewsi is more inflated, and the groove in the inner surface of the profemur is deeper. Etymology. Tonsuritermes mathewsi is named in honour of A. G. Anthony Mathews for his important contribution to the taxonomy and biology of the termites of Mato Grosso, Brazil (Mathews 1977). Biological notes. Some samples were collected from derelict nests built by undetermined species of Cornitermes Wasmann, 1897 in cerrado vegetation.Published as part of Constantini, Joice P., Carrijo, Tiago Fernandes, Palma-Onetto, Valeria, Scheffrahn, Rudolf, Carnohan, Lucas Paul, Šobotník, Jan & Cancello, Eliana M., 2018, Tonsuritermes, a new soldierless termite genus and two new species from South America (Blattaria: Isoptera: Termitidae: Apicotermitinae), pp. 383-394 in Zootaxa 4531 (3) on pages 389-390, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4531.3.4, http://zenodo.org/record/261474
The Political Communication of Hugo Chávez: The Evolution of Aló Presidente
Aló Presidente was a weekly television programme anchored and produced by Hugo Chávez during his presidency in Venezuela. The show, a version of a phone-in, was broadcast live on national television at 11am on Sundays and lasted on average six hours. It followed the presidential agenda to a new location every week, where Hugo Chávez would inaugurate factories, read Latin American poetry, interview Fidel Castro, and sing llanero songs. This thesis investigates the role that Aló Presidente played in the making of the “Bolivarian Revolution”, Hugo Chávez’s political project. Through a critical reading of the transcripts of the show, it explores the 378 episodes, or 1656 hours, that aired between 1999 and 2012. Aló Presidente was the cornerstone of Chávez’s political communication, replacing press conferences and interviews. Chávez was known for his continuous presence on radio and television and his daily presidential addresses. However, only on the Sunday show could the audience phone the president and share their ideas, emotions and everyday life concerns. This thesis reviews the narratives that underlined the relationship between the audience/electorate and the host/president on Aló Presidente. It is argued that Aló Presidente played a fundamental role in articulating the identity of a public that shared the values and ideas of Chávez’s hegemonic project. Moreover, it is argued that the show Aló Presidente and the ideological process called the “Bolivarian Revolution” can be read as two co-related arms of a same project, and that they informed and defined each other throughout Chávez’s presidency. In this context, this thesis assesses the evolution of the programme in light of the political events taking place in Venezuela during that time. Aló Presidente is thus seen as a repository, or “black box”, of the discourses that articulated the Bolivarian identity and constructed the legitimacy of Hugo Chávez as the leader of a populist movement in Venezuela. Finally, the core of this thesis is that the co-relation between the show and the hegemonic project evolved over time to strengthen the authoritarian tendencies of Hugo Chávez’s regime. Following the activities of Aló Presidente over 13 years, the investigation charts that evolution in three different stages: 1) participation, 2) education, and 3) obedience, arguing that what started as a seemingly participatory space, progressively became a platform that presented Hugo Chávez’s figure as the ideologue of a populist movement, and ultimately secured his position as the indisputable leader and sole authority of Venezuela’s “Bolivarian Revolution”

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
