No full textStarting from the spatial turn in social and political sciences, the essay analyzes the rise of space as a political concept between Eighteenth and Nineteenth century, in relation to processes of territorialization and centralization which imply a constitutive tension between space and territory, between the globe and the State. This tension is analyzed by inquiring the philosophical premises and the political potential of Carl Ritter's Erdkunde, the first scientific geography formulated in Germany in the first half of the Nineteenth century. Ritter's work is considered in relation to two options of politicization of space represented by the works of Kant and Herder and for the influence it had on Hegel's philosophy of space and history. The analysis questions the priority of a cartographic understanding of space, underlining a more layered set of possibilities of politicization and of temporalization pertaining to the history of its concept

The conceptual link between human nature, progress and law is stressed in order to point out the bond between moral universalization and the force necessary to impose it. No full textThe linear progression of time defines the very notion of the «Modern» as a discernible epoch along the continuum of a common understanding of the progression of time. To alter the relationship of the subject to the normative progression of time or, more radically, to alter temporality itself is to fracture the firmament of the Modern as both a discernible epoch and its existence as context for thinking. This paper is to examine avant garde jazz music and its abandonment of the fundamentals of western music, particularly meter, as a foray into the creation of a sonic representation of alternative modes of subjective relation to temporality. This art is further analyzed in relation to the conception of subjectivity provided by Ellison and Du Bois, and regarded as an attempt to create a revolutionary space of radical freedom for the radical «Other»

No full textThis article discusses some recent debates on questions of the social ontology of firms and on the question of group minds related to the idea of a corporation, its authority and jurisdiction. The aim of the article is to provide a critique of the idea of corporation by revisiting an alternative ontology of social groups based on the concept of a trust, as this is developed in the legal and political thinking of English pluralist theory, which advances an alternative to Schmittian political theology. The article connects this conception of trust (as antithetical to corporation) to recent biopolitical theories of the commons and of use without ownership
