Scaling Up Physical Design: Challenges and Opportunities
No full textDue to the continuous scaling of integration density and the increasing diversity of customized designs, there are increasing demands on the scalability and the customization of EDA tools and flows. Commercial EDA tools usually provide an interface of TCL scripting to extract and modify the design information for a flexible design flow. However, we observe that the current TCL scripting is not designed for the complete netlist extraction, resulting in a significant degradation in performance. For example, it takes over 20 minutes to extract the complete netlist of a 466K-cell design using TCL. This extraction may be repeated several times when interfacing between the existing EDA platforms and the actual distributed EDA algorithms. This drastic decrease in efficiency is a great barrier for customized EDA tool development. In this paper, we propose to build a distributed framework on top of TCL to accelerate the netlist extraction, and use the distribution detailed placement as an example to demonstrate its capability. Towards More Efficient Local Search for Pseudo-Boolean Optimization
No full textPseudo-Boolean (PB) constraints are highly expressive, and many combinatorial optimization problems can be modeled using pseudo-Boolean optimization (PBO). It is recognized that stochastic local search (SLS) is a powerful paradigm for solving combinatorial optimization problems, but the development of SLS for solving PBO is still in its infancy. In this paper, we develop an effective SLS algorithm for solving PBO, dubbed NuPBO, which introduces a novel scoring function for PB constraints and a new weighting scheme. We conduct experiments on a broad range of six public benchmarks, including three real-world benchmarks, a benchmark from PB competition, an integer linear programming optimization benchmark, and a crafted combinatorial benchmark, to compare NuPBO against five state-of-the-art competitors, including a recently-proposed SLS PBO solver LS-PBO, two complete PB solvers PBO-IHS and RoundingSat, and two mixed integer programming (MIP) solvers Gurobi and SCIP. NuPBO has been exhibited to perform best on these three real-world benchmarks. On the other three benchmarks, NuPBO shows competitive performance compared to state-of-the-art competitors, and it significantly outperforms LS-PBO, indicating that NuPBO greatly advances the state of the art in SLS for solving PBO

No full textIn the story Luo Dadou’s life (Luo Dadou de yisheng 罗大斗的一生), Lu Ling 路翎 (1923-1994) gives shape to the deepness of human psyche and stresses the suffering of the Self of his age by giving a brilliant emphasis to human individuality. The author succeeds in doing so by creating an amazing psychological characterization of the main character, both by means of words and by means of grammatical structures. By applying Denton’s categories for the study of the Self in modern Chinese literature, I analysed Lu Ling’s short story from the Freudian and Kleinian psychodynamic perspective, so to demonstrate how Lu Ling enters his characters’ minds and wonderfully recreates the psychological dynamics inside and between them
