No full textThe thesis argues that a Wittgensteinian approach to the 'mystical' writings of a 'mystical theologian' such as Teresa of Avila reveals that rather than exhibiting an ontological mysticism these writings are better understood as enacting what are termed 'mystical strategies' or 'performative discourse'. The notion that both Wittgenstein and Teresa employ what are termed 'therapeutic or transformational strategies' to effect change in their readers is central to its argument. No full textThe slides for the "Images of Borges: A Slide/Tape Program" written and created by Teresa E. Regina. The presentation is in support of Terry Regina's Thesis, titled "Patterns of Borges", on Jorge Luis Borges' life and work as well as her trip to Argentina and meeting with the poet and author shortly before his death. There are 160 labelled slides in the program, though the text manuscript (see here: https://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15370coll2/id/26441) only outlines the text and use for the 145 slides. Also some of the numbers for the descriptions in the text for the program do not match up exactly to the slides, but the content seems to match up, so it appears to just be a numbering issue. Do be aware that there may be slides that are out of order in reference to the text manuscript. Towards the end, around slide 140, the slides tend to not follow the manuscript and there seem to be additional slides, including some photos of Jorge Luis Borges during Terry's visit. The reason the slides are divided is solely due to maintain how they were donated and not necessarily to reflect how the presentation was conducted. Therefore, slides from both folders have been combined in this document.; Also items have been combined and not kept separate because it was a presentation or grouping that was created as a whole not as individual items. No full textWith few exceptions, representations of Renaissance women were created by men. The Spanish saint, Teresa of Avila (1515-1582), who chose to represent herself, was one of those exceptions. What prompted her to write Book of Her Life, Interior Castle , and other works? What does the self-portrait of this sixteenth-century nun, mystic, and founder of convents reveal about its author, the church, state, and role of women? St. Teresa of Avila , an innovative analysis of Teresa's autobiographical writings, explores these and many other questions. Bringing to bear a knowledge of Inquisition studies, theory of autobiography, scriptural hermeneutics, and hagiography, Carole Slade defines Teresa's writings as a project of self-interpretation undertaken mainly as the result of the perceived, later realized, threat of an accusation of heresy. Being female and of paternal Jewish ancestry, Teresa was vulnerable to such a charge.Teresa's writing project presented her with serious difficulties. Judicial confession, her prescribed genre, presumed the writer's guilt, while the subordinate female script precluded a defense against the suspicion that her mystical experiences came from the devil. Through careful textual analysis, Slade demonstrates that Teresa exploited the nuances of numerous genres - hagiography, New World chronicle, mystical theological treatise, and early novel - to create an innocent textual persona and depict herself in heroic terms.A signal contribution to our understanding of Teresa's rhetorical and literary talent and life circumstances, this book will engage readers across a broad range of disciplines

No full textTeresa Brayton, poet, literary nationalist, author of "The Old Bog Road" was born in Kilbrook, Kilcock in 1868. She emigrated to America in 1895 and became well known in Irish-American circles. She published extensively in many American newspapers and magazines and was closely associated with the 1916 Rising. In 1913 she published her first book of poetry called "Songs of the Dawn, The Flame of Ireland" appeared in 1926 and "Christmas Verses" in 1934. Her main themes were the exile's nostalgic loss of homeland, nationalism and religion. She returned permanently to Ireland in 1932 and died in her home Kilbrook in 1943. Presidnet de Valera unveiled a memorial cross over her grave in 1959

Along with writing novels and her memoir, Miller has taught at multiple universities and created a radio and television program, Writing Out Loud, to highlight authors. I remember Miss Shizuko Kajikawa and the Seabrook Christian Church
No full textIn this "I remember" memoir, Teresa Masatani recalls her bible studies teacher, Mrs. Shizuko Kajikawa. She feels that Mrs. Kajikawa had a significant influence on her life because she was kind, tolerant, and loving. Teresa particularly liked bible study classes because Mrs. Kajikawa always offered peanut butter cookies and lemonade. Teresa also mentions that Mrs. Kajikawa acted like a surrogate parent to many Japanese children whose parents spent long hours working in the fields. During one summer, Teresa memorized 300 bible verses so that she could go to a free, week-long bible camp in Pennsylvania. The Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center has been soliciting current and past residents of Seabrook Farms for an "I remember" project. Residents are asked to create narratives regarding their experiences at Seabrook Farms. These memories help preserve the history and multi-cultural heritage of Seabrook Farms

No full textThe materials in this collection consist of materials created for and in support of Teresa E. Regina’s Thesis on the poet/author Jorge Luis Borges, titled “Patterns of Borges” and completed in December 1984. In addition to a copy of the Thesis, there are materials used in a slide/tape program created by Teresa Regina based on the thesis and her visit with Borges called “Images of Borges.” This program was made possible by a grant from Alpha Delta Kappa. It includes 160 slides, an audiocassette tape, and a manuscript containing the text and slides used in the presentation. The program, using the tape, takes about 15 minutes. Slides include photographs of Jorge Luis Borges and his family as well as photos of Buenos Aires and Argentina. Of particular note are photographs of Jorge Borges taken during Teresa’s visit in the early 1980s.For biographical information on Teresa E.
