No full textABSTRACT A study of the water resources of the ground-water system in the unconsolidated deposits of the Colville River Watershed provided the Colville River Watershed Planning Team with an assessment of the hydrogeologic framework, preliminary determinations of how the shallow and deeper parts of the ground-water system interact with each other and the surface-water system, descriptions of water-quantity characteristics including water-use estimates and an estimated water budget for the watershed, and an assessment of further data needs. The 1,007-square-mile watershed, located in Stevens County in northeastern Washington, is closed to further surface-water appropriations throughout most of the basin during most seasons. The information provided by this study will assist local watershed planners in assessing the status of water resources within the Colville River Watershed (Water Resources Inventory Area 59). Get PDFThis publication is a field guide to the forest habitat types of the Colville Indian Reservation. The research to classify forest habitat types of this area was conducted jointly with the Soil Conservation Service soil survey of the reservation from 1983 to 1986. The objective of the joint effort was to provide baseline data on the soils and associated potential vegetation. The data base will serve as an effective tool in the management of forest lands and aid in the practice of more intrusive, site-specific silviculture throughout the reservation. The data base will also contribute to the comprehensive evaluation of the soils and vegetation of forest lands in eastern Washington.This publication is a summary of research conducted under Washington State University Agricultural Research Center Project 0558 (B. A. Zamora, project leader) and sponsered by the Colville Confederated Tribes and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Colville Agency, Nespelem, WA. No full textThe purpose of this study was to attempt to begin the process of preservation of the languages spoken on and near the Colville Indian Reservation in Washington State. It was further hoped to stimulate others, native speakers especially, to record, either on tape or in writing, those aspects of the language still in their memories. This work is intended to be used to assist the younger tribal members in learning the languages spoken by their elders.The \u27dictionary\u27 is listed in alphabetized form for the Teaching & Learning-Colville section only. That is, the Colville words are not alphabetized in Colville (nor in Teaching & Learning \u27order\u27). Each dictionary entry contains an Teaching & Learning word and as many translations into Colville as could be readily obtained. These entries often contain approximate equivalents, other words often associated with the Teaching & Learning entry, and words which have nearly opposite meanings. Phrases and sentences which employ the \u27entry-word\u27 were listed whenever possible. Attempts were made to offer other words which the author believes Will assist the learner in grasping the essence of the Colville meanings intended. For example, the entry for the word \u27wing\u27 includes references to arm, flank, and fly.The dictionary is designed to be used with the aid of a native speaker or someone who can accurately describe the manner and place of production of the sounds of the Colville Language
