Childhood in the works of Silvina Ocampo and Alejandra Pizarnik

Silvina Ocampo (1903-1993)
and traces this thematic
and vital
link to the
Argentine
poet
Alejandra Pizamik (1936-1972). The
study
looks
at childhood not only
in
relation to their literary texts but
also
in the
writers' construction of self-identity
within
their
socio-literary context, and at
the
role played
by
visual art
in their
aesthetic.
Chapter 1
contrasts Silvina
with
her
elder sister
Victoria Ocampo through their
differing literary
appropriation of a shared childhood. It distinguishes Ocampo from
Adolfo Bioy Casares and
Jorge Luis Borges in terms of
her fictional logic
and
her
treatment of games, drawing comparisons instead with Julio Cortdzar.
Chapter 2
undertakes close reading of various Ocampo texts, including
some
for
children,
in
order to explore
her
vision of childhood through nostalgia, adult-child
power relationships, aging and rejuvenation, and moments of
initiation or
imitation.
Chapter 3
turns to Pizarnik
and the myth of the child-poet.
It
analyses
her
child
personae through Andre Breton's Surrealism, Jean Cocteau
and
Octavio Paz, through
her borrowings from Alice in Wonderland
and
Nadja,
and
through
her
obsession with
madness, death,
orphanhood, violation and transgression.
Chapter 4 is
comparative.
It
outlines the context
in
which
Ocampo
and
Pizamik's
passionate friendship developed,
and considers
Pizamik's
essay on
Elpecado
mortal.
It
then explores their broad
mutual
literary
and
thematic
affinities.
My
conclusion is that Ocampo's works achieve equilibrium between childhood and age,
whereas Pizarnik's
much-discussed poetic crisis of exile
from language itself
parallels
her deep sense of anxiety at being
exiled from the world of childhood.
This thesis
contributes to the
study of
Argentine literature by drawing
revealing
comparisons
between
two key
writers
through their shared obsession with childhood,
arguing that
an understanding of their attitudes
to childhood
is fundamental
to
appreciating
fully their
work.

Since her childhood, her first poems and depressions, her reading, her life in París, her friends, until the writing of Diary and other texts that take her closer to the limit, the author deciphers keys and symbols to honor her, now that another year of her death is commemorated. The reading of this article offers the appropriate space in order to make Alejandra's poem sounds in the silence's depths and covers the hands with lilac color . . . as her soul.Este artículo realiza un abordaje a la vida y a la obra poética de Alejandra Pizarnik, en la búsqueda de hilos conductores que aporten a la comprensión de su poesía y a la razón de su suicidio. No full textThis Master's thesis is mainly focused on the poetics and poetic style and language of Argentinian author Alejandra Pizarnik. The main objective here is to show that they are not only present in her poetry but also in her extensive diaristic work. The primary source of this thesis is then the newest edition of her book Diarios, Lumen: 2003 - Diaries. The present work also approximates the diary as a literary genre with special focus on the female writer's diaries, and its many examples and parallels - the primary example being the comparison between Alejandra Pizarnik's and Sylvia Plath's diaries and their poetics based on several similarities. No full textPaul Valéry said that “absolute poetry can only proceed by exceptional marvels: the works it composes constitute entirely what is most rare and improbable in the imponderable treasures of a literature”. And although Valéry spoke of the symbolists, the same is true for Alejandra Pizarnik, who pursued until her last breath to find the perfection of her art, the musicality of language. The work done by the great poets of all times and places tries to link the previous poetic past with the past that came after them, taking lessons from here and there, according to their interest. This gesture refers to a play of literary influences and inspirations that came naturally to Alejandra Pizarnik. This book is about that dialogue, about the exchange of precise signs that Pizarnik made with the modern poetic tradition, and by closely examining her poetry, specifically Árbol de Diana (1962), this will also be a book that looks at the search for musical silence, the fiery story and poetic otherness while considering the difficulties that, as a mid-twentieth century author, Pizarnik had to face.Decía Paul Valéry que “la poesía absoluta sólo puede proceder por maravillas excepcionales: las obras que compone constituyen enteramente lo que se advierte de más raro e improbable en los tesoros imponderables de una literatura”. Y aunque Valéry hablaba de los simbolistas, lo mismo es cierto para Alejandra Pizarnik, quien persiguió hasta su último aliento encontrar la perfección de su arte, la musicalidad del lenguaje. El trabajo hecho por las grandes poetas de todas épocas y lugares trata de vincular el pasado poético anterior con el pasado que vino después de ellas, tomando enseñanzas de aquí y de allá, según sean de interés. Este gesto remite a un juego de influencias e inspiraciones literarias que se dio de forma natural en Alejandra Pizarnik. Este libro versa sobre ese diálogo, sobre el intercambio de signos precisos que Pizarnik realizó con la tradición poética moderna, y al examinar detenidamente su poesía, en concreto Árbol de Diana (1962), será también éste un libro que verse sobre la búsqueda del silencio musical, el relato ardiente y la otredad poética a la par que considera las dificultades que, como autora de mitad del siglo XX, Pizarnik tuvo que enfrentar
