Entrepreneurial Practices between Socio-Territorial Capital to Multicultural Dynamics in Fragile Areas of Southern Italy
This article explains some entrepreneurial practices currently in use in certain socio-economically fragile territories in the southern Italian regions of Apulia, Calabria, and Sicily.
In general these entrepreneurial practices attempt to reactivate local civic resources by enhancing the skills immigrants have achieved either in their countries of origin or in Italy. The methods we will explore distinguish themselves from other efforts in that they positively affect local communities and cause local governments to put into practice actions that benefit the entire community.
The experiences that we will analyze can represent innovative welfare practices that become solidarity agreements, useful in triggering resilient dynamics relating to forms of relational embeddedness. By involving local administrations and societal members, these innovative experiences, even now at a start-up level, represent a possible path to the socio-economic regeneration of territories and the promotion of multicultural lifestyles
Beyond protest: issues and ideological inconsistencies in the voters of the Movimento 5 Stelle
The main goal of this chapter is to understand whether the voters of the 5 Stars Movement (M5S) are a chaotic assortment of individuals united only by their protest against the political establishment (or, at most, by a confused desire for change), or whether they share common values, a vision of democracy and fundamental political attitudes. The question is therefore whether we are faced with the complete ideological heterogeneity that typifies populist movements, or whether we can identify in the M5S electorate a significant level of political and ideological homogeneity. In the former case, we can expect a rapid decline of the movement, despite its incredible success in the 2013 general elections; in the latter case, we will try to trace the borders and discover the content of a new social and political entity that is potentially able to deeply influence Italian politics in the coming years
10 pages, 3 figures, 6 tables[EN] Community structure and faunal composition of decapod crustaceans off the west coast of central Italy (western Mediterranean) were investigated. Samples were collected during five trawl surveys carried out from June 1996 to June 2000 from 16 to 750 m depth. Multivariate analysis revealed the occurrence of five faunistic assemblages: 1) a strictly coastal community over sandy bottoms at depths <35 m; 2) a middle shelf community over sandy-muddy bottoms at depths between 50 and 100 m; 3) a slope edge community up to 200 m depth as a transition assemblage; 4) an upper slope community at depths between 200 and 450 m, and 5) a middle slope community at depths greater than 450 m. The existence of a shelfslope edge transition is a characteristic of the western and central Mediterranean where a Leptometra phalangium facies is found in many areas at depths between 120 and 180 m. The brachyuran crab Liocarcinus depurator dominates the shallow muddy-sandy bottoms of the shelf, while Parapenaeus longirostris is the most abundant species from the shelf to the upper slope assemblage. The dominant species on the middle slope are mainly nektobenthic (Aristeus antennatus, Aristaeomorpha foliacea, Plesionika martia), bentho-pelagic (Pasiphaea sivado) and benthic species (Nephrops norvegicus). The average diversity of the five assemblages defined increased with depth and the highest diversity values were found in the slope assemblages.
Experimental designs and brain mapping approaches for studying the placebo analgesic effect
The placebo effect has intrigued scientists since it was proposed. The debate has now centered on how it works. Significant progress has been made and most of our knowledge about the neurobiological mechanisms comes from the field of pain and analgesia. The appropriateness of the experimental/clinical paradigms is crucial when we want to investigate the mechanisms of the placebo phenomenon. Recently, functional imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and electro/magnetoencephalography have also given the opportunity to define the neuroanatomical bases of placebo analgesia. This work systematically reviews the literature that deals with placebo analgesia, emphasizing both the methodological aspects and the neurobiological advances. The understanding of placebo mechanisms is fundamental and necessary to identify ways of accessing and harnessing these mechanisms in clinical practice to the patient’s benefit
Inchiesta su periferie urbane, disagio socio-economico e voto. I casi di Bologna, Firenze e Roma
The weakening of traditional parties and of their territorial rooting which has occurred over the last decades has brought back the scholarly interest on the local dynamics, namely, on the social and political transformations involving local areas. An increasing number of scholars has therefore focused on the «peripheries», those urban areas that are traditionally associated with a high level of socio-economic distress, wherein inhabitants feel themselves as economically disadvantaged, socially marginalized and politically excluded. This paper is part of such research strand by investigating the variation in the electoral results in three Italian cities – Bologna, Florence, and Rome – in relation to the spatial distance from the urban centre and to the socio-economic distress. More notably, the paper answers two main questions: a) are the most distant areas from the historical centre also those with a higher level of socio-economic distress? b) what kind of relationship is there between voting and socio-economic distress, and how does such relation change over the post-crisis years? To answer these questions, we consider the results of four elections (parliamentary elections 2008, 2013, 2018; European elections 2019) in the three cities investigated, which are similarly characterized by an electoral decline of the Pd (but also of the Pdl/FI) to the benefit of M5s and League (and in part also of FdI), besides being located in central Italy. By using an original dataset combining socio-economic and electoral variables at the district level, the article analyzes the variation in the electoral support for the main Italian political parties, with a particular focus on both mainstream (Pd and Pdl/FI) and antiestablishment parties (M5s and League)
