Tydi-lang: a language for typed streaming hardware: A manual for future Tydi-lang compiler developers
Transferring composite data structures with variable-length fields often requires designing non-trivial protocols that are not compatible between hardware designs. When each project designs its own data format and protocols the ability to collaborate between hardware developers is diminished, which is an issue especially in the open-source community. Because the high-level meaning of a protocol is often lost in translation to low-level languages when a custom protocol needs to be designed, extra documentation is required, the interpretation of which introduces new opportunities for errors. The Tydi specification (Tydi-spec) was proposed to address the above issues by codifying the composite and variable-length data structures in a type and providing a standard protocol to transfer typed data among hardware components. The Tydi intermediate representation (Tydi-IR) extends the Tydi-spec by defining typed interfaces, typed components, and connections among typed components. In this paper, we propose Tydi-lang, a high-level hardware description language (HDL) for streaming designs. The language incorporates Tydi-spec to describe typed streams and provides templates to describe abstract reusable components. We also implement an open-source compiler from Tydi-lang to Tydi-IR. We leverage a Tydi-IR to VHDL compiler, and also present a simulator blueprint to identify streaming bottlenecks. We show several Tydi-lang examples to translate high-level SQL to VHDL to demonstrate that Tydi-lang can efficiently raise the level of abstraction and reduce design effort.https://github.com/twoentartian/tydi-lang Source code for the thesis project.Computer Scienc

AMV remix: do-it-yourself anime music videos
[Extract]
The catalyst for this chapter is a 4.25 minute fan-made anime music video called "Konoha Memory Book" (DynamiteBreakdown, 2008a). This was created over 4 months during 2005 by one of the present authors, Matt Lewis — also known online as Dynamite Breakdown, Maguma, and/or Tsugasa — when he was 15 years old. It was sourced by Michele Knobel and Colin Lankshear in 2006 while doing work on "remix" in relation to the theory and practice of "new literacies." Artifact led to creator and ongoing email communications, resulting in this chapter

Introduction: social and cultural studies of new literacies from an educational perspective
[Extract] This volume aims to provide a Reader - in the sense of a general introduction and overview - for a field of inquiry we think of as social and cultural studies of new literacies from the perspective of an interest in education. Its publication coincides with the 20th anniversary of a symposium published in The English and Media Magazine titled "Towards new literacies, information technology, English and media education" (1993) and the 10th anniversary of the New Literacies book series being launched by Peter Lang Publishing (USA)

ĝardeno paradizo #2
After a first project realised in the city of Sète in 2023, the interdisciplinary collective consisting of architect and designer Mr.&Mr. (Alexis Lautier and Pierre Tallagrand), Dr Anna Colin (curator, educator and gardener), Marine Lang (co-initiator) and Aude Mohammedi-Merquiol (producer and gardener) worked, under the aegis of the arts organisation Mécènes du Sud, on a new commission for the Pension de Famille (7, rue Saint-Louis) in Montpellier, managed by the association Gammes, dedicated to housing vulnerable people. The Pension de Famille permanently houses 21 residents who have experienced long-term homelessness. The brief was to create a common area and facility to enable residents to cook and eat together in all weathers and to carry out cultural and gardening activities.
We extended the invitation to culinary artist Aria Sène (douce studio) who designs and cooks memories into objects, rituals and tender archives.
Following multiple interactions with the staff and residents in preparation for the project, we run a week-long workshop in March 2025 with the residents and staff, to introduce our work and presence, understand their needs with regards to the commission, and identify skills and interests in the group. We cooked meals that related to people's experiences and cultures, made a biodiversity mound from dead wood, leaf mould and other decaying components found on site to plant endemic edible plants, and made crockery for the future kitchen from clay moulded into vegetables then used for cooking.
Production started in May 2025 and ended in September 2025 when the project was publicly inaugurated as part of "Les chemins du vivant", a region-wide project supported by "Montpellier 2028 - Terres de culture".
The interventions are three-fold:
- An outdoor kitchen bench made of terrazo with debris from the garden and broken crockery collected locally, and containing two basins. One to fill in order to wash vegetables and fruit, the water of which then circulates into a second, lower sink to wash hands and crockery without chemicals. The water then goes into a hand-made drain or water-way, dug up and filled with rocks and debris found on site. This water irrigates plants across 5 metres. Plants grow out of the bench to soon create shade above it and yield lemons and grape.
- A self-irrigating planting design including endemic ground covering plants for the seating area, endemic fruit trees and an allotment area to grow vegetables, edible plants and medicinal plants.
- A large curtain for the large porch that can be moved according to the direction of the sun, made of discarded advertising flags from the city of Montpellier, sawn up with shapes connected to plants grown on site, including globe artichokes.
All three interventions were realised in collaboration with the residents and staff of the Pension de Famille. The collective continues to be involved and undertake bi-yearly maintenance, while the every-day maintenance of the garden is under the care of one of the resident
