SYNONYMS: Boriogale, Dendrodorcopsis, Gerboides, Gigantomys, Halmatopus, Halmaturus, Kängurus, Megaleia, Notamacropus, Osphranter, Phascolagus, Prionotemmus. COMMENTS: Includes Megaleia and Protemnodon (sensu Haltenorth, 1958); see Kirsch and Calaby (1977:17). Rationale for present usage of Macropus given by Calaby (1966). Ride (1962) discussed generic nomenclature for all Macropodinae. Van Gelder (1977b) included Thylogale and Wallabia in this genus, but see Kirsch and Calaby (1977: 17) and Corbet and Hill (1980:17-18). Novel method for detection, typing, and quantification of human papillomaviruses in clinical samples
No full textWe report the development of a novel detection and typing methodology for human papillomaviruses (HPV) based on real-time PCR with the self-probing fluorescent primers known as Scorpions. This technique is quick, el simple, specific, sensitive, and capable of estimating viral load per cell. We report the results of over 100 typing reactions performed on cell lines, biopsies, and cervical cytobrush samples which, when compared to the current reference HPV detection and typing technique, present a kappa value of 0.89. We further report preliminary data suggesting a relationship between viral load per cell and grade of cervical disease
Toekomstbestendige verharde zeeweringen
No full textEen verkenning naar adaptieve oplossingen in een zandige kust, eindrapport t.b.v Deltaprogramma Kunst. Ten behoeve van het opstellen van een Nationale Visie Kust door het Deltaprogramma heeft Deltares onderzocht hoe verharde zeeweringen langs de Nederlandse Kust toekomstbestendig kunnen worden gemaakt. De achterliggende vraag hierbij was of en hoe veiligheidsoplossingen gecombineerd kunnen worden met ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen zoals stedelijke vernieuwing, recreatie en natuur en landschap. De eerste fase van het onderzoek heeft de veiligheidshorizon van 42 locaties met verharde weringen in beeld gebracht. Met de uitvoering van de versterkingsprojecten bij de \u91zwakke schakels\u92, inzet van zandsuppleties en goed onderhoud aan de keringen is de veiligheid voor vrijwel de gehele kust de komende decennia goed op orde. Bij een scenario met snelle zeespiegelstijging (35 cm tot 2050) ontstaat midden 21e eeuw mogelijk op 16 locaties een veiligheidsopgave, dat wil zeggen langs ruim 30 km verharde zeeweringen. Voor een 10-tal locaties ligt de veiligheidshorizon, bij een snelle zeespiegelstijging, in de tweede helft 21e eeuw. Voor de resterende locaties ontstaat er pas na de 21e eeuw een veiligheidsopgave. Bij matige zeespiegelstijging ligt de veiligheidshorizon verder weg. Voor alle locaties zijn, vanuit kustveiligheid bezien, mogelijke aanpassingsmaatregelen geformuleerd waarmee aan nieuwe maatgevende omstandigheden kan worden voldaan. Deze zijn geformuleerd in termen van \u91zandig\u92, \u91hard\u92 of een combinatie van deze twee. Onderzocht is is de toepasbaarheid van zowel kustlijnzorg (beheer en onderhoud) als vijf meegroeiconcepten (aanleg), te weten \u91dijk-in duin\u92, \u91zandbuffer met- strekdam\u92, \u91kunstrif\u92, \u91duin-voor-dijk\u92 en \u91zand-op-duin\u92. Deze concepten kunnen zowel meegroeien met zeespiegelstijging, als meekoppelen met ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen . Nagegaan is of deze concepten een verbinding kunnen leggen tussen de langere termijn veiligheidsopgaven en de korte termijn ruimtelijke ontwikkelingen. De vijf genoemde meegroeiconcepten zijn beoordeeld op de onderdelen veiligheid, kosten/baten en ruimtelijke kwaliteit. Dit is gedaan via een enquête onder een groep van 22 experts van waterschappen, Rijkswaterstaat, kennisinstellingen en adviesbureaus. De vijf meegroeiconcepten bieden voor de badplaatsen met een boulevard mogelijkheden en scoren beter dan het referentie concept van traditionele kustversterking (\u91hard-blijft-hard\u92). Voor de overige kusttypen met verharde zeeweringen, te weten dijk, geul en havens (zie nationaal kader kust) heeft het referentieconcept de hoogste score.Deltaprogramm
