No full textDavid A. Poulsen has been a broadcaster, teacher, football coach, stage and film actor and—most of all—writer. His writing career began in earnest when his story “The Welcomin’ “ won the 1984 Alberta Culture Short Story Competition. Now the author of more than 25 books, many for middle readers and young adults, David’s newest teen novel, And Then the Sky Exploded, is scheduled for an October release. It’s the story of Christian Larkin who learns that his great-grandfather helped build the A-bombs dropped on Japan and wants to make amends … somehow.David recently made his inaugural foray into the world of adult crime fiction with Serpents Rising, the first book in the Cullen and Cobb Mystery series. The follow-up novel, Dead Air, will be arriving in January of 2017. A UBC Creative Writing alumnus and former Writer in Residence at the Saskatoon Public Library, David lives with his wife Barb on a small ranch in the foothills of southwestern Alberta

Changes in the Spatial Allocation of Cropland in the Ft. Cobb Watershed as a Result of Environmental Restrictions
No full textPollution runoff estimates from SWAT are used in a mathematical programming model to optimally model site-specific crop and conservation practices for pollution abatement in the Ft. Cobb watershed in Southwestern Oklahoma. Mediterranean goods in an Indian context: the use of transcultural theory for the study of the ancient Indian Ocean world
No full textThis chapter considers how our understanding of the long-distance movement of goods across the ancient Indian Ocean world can be better understood by thinking in both cultural and economic terms. That is to say, considering cultural demand alongside the economic forces that enabled these goods to reach their destinations (the networks of production and distribution). In particular, it is argued that by applying transcultural concepts (what I call here material transculturality) we can think in more complex ways about why certain goods reached the Indian Subcontinent and the manner in which they were utilized. No full textThis chapter provides a framework for the use of globalization and related theories in archaeology and history. Starting with an historiographical overview of how the terms globalization, transculturality and glocalization developed, the chapter goes on to consider how these concepts have been employed by historians and archaeologists and their relations to other theoretical models. While heavy emphasis is placed on the cultural dimensions of globalization, its intersection with economic factors is also an important point of discussion. Not least because the long-distance movements of people, goods and ideas is a fundamental aspect of globalization. The salient point is that economic and cultural dimensions are considered in conjunction with each other
