Empirical Testing of ARCTIC Model for Assessment of Competence Based Synergy in Acquisition Process
No full textPurpose: the aim of this paper is to develop and empirically test an integrative research model which would help to assess prerequisites of competence-based synergy in acquisition process.
Design/methodology/approach: What we wanted to know was how core competences should be evaluated as sources of synergy in acquisition/alliance? Having answered this question analysis we have researched the latest theoretical findings in antecedents of synergy in merger and acquisition process and empirically tested by means of illustrative case study.
Findings: Based on literature review in depth, an ARCTIC model has been developed. We have selected illustrative case study of Facebook acquisition of WhatsApp by in mid 2014 year and tested empirically developed methodology.
Research limitations/implications: Illustrative case study involved explores the competence transfer as main drivers of successful acquisition process. The author suggests further empirical testing on illustrative case studies and possible development of methodology for evaluation of all six factors.
Practical implications: Research identified four steps to investigate whether core competence transfer in an acquisition process is an important source of synergy and whether is better to acquire or ally for competence transfer. The ARCTIC model can be used effectively in evaluating core competencies as a means of synergy creation in the M&A context.
Originality/value: The authors believe that six factors of ARCTIC models allow making preliminary evaluation of core competences as sources of synergy in acquisitions and new ARCTIC model should be helpful to mangers facing mergers, acquisitions and alliances, as well as to management academic specialists, studying this area.

Valuing strategic flexibility with Black-Scholes option pricing model
No full textPurpose: The purpose of the research paper is to present a real option valuation model that will help to identify the value drivers of the JSC Rietumu Banka: one of the biggest Latvian banks that specializing in private and investment banking as well as measure the value of its strategic flexibility.
Design/methodology/approach: The empirical research appears to be correlational one as it is to study and describe issues related to Real Options Valuation – both general: application and comparison to DCF method and specific: value of JSC Rietumu Banka and the value of strategic flexibility. The rationale behind choosing a commercial Bank as a unit of research has a number of reasons. The model of Black-Scholes of option pricing is very topical for valuing companies, assets and liabilities of which are relatively comparable and continuously change in value. Thus, JSC Rietumu Banka was chosen specifically, because it is known for being more active in corporate investing activities than other commercial banks in Latvia.
Findings: The research outcomes of the paper were divided into three parts accordingly to the research questions. The first part was dedicated to estimating the value of the Bank through traditional DCF approach. The second part was answering the research question by identifying the equity value of the bank using Real Options Valuation through Black-Scholes option pricing model. The third part was dedicated to identifying implications behind valuation of a commercial bank using ROV. The main drivers that determine value of a bank and its strategic flexibility were explained and discussed.
Research limitations/implications: The main data needed for the research are financial statements for JSC Rietumu Banka. Financial reporting for company includes statements for the Bank and not for the Group. Limitation of this approach is the quantification. Real option evaluation of strategies can get lost in the mathematics.
Practical implications: There are few academic works on the topic, yet none of the major companies in the Latvia have publicized ROV application. However, the value of strategic flexibility appears to play a pivotal role nowadays, given the transition condition of Latvian economy. Furthermore, bankers can benefit from using ROV methods when analyzing and selecting the strategic alternatives.
Social implications: The paper is to sketch the outlines of a more differentiated approach towards the contribution Strategic Management and Financial Management which can help to most managers and their needs to replace traditional approaches to strategic planning and company valuation with a more aggressive one in transition economy settings.
Originality/value: Surprisingly, very few paper and books have discussed the valuation of the bank. Improvement of occupational safety and health system for the staff of the State fire and rescue service team.

The development and practical execution of the human evacuation plan within organisations

The theoretical base and the desighn of the pedagogic sample-lesson are shown in five chapters:
1. The importance of lessons in literature for the patriotic education of pupils.
2. The personalities and the patriotic poetry of Vilis Pludons and Andrejs Eglitis in the context of teaching lessons in literature.
3. The preparation of the teacher for his lessons with the pupils.
4. The sequence of the lessons which are dedicated to the personalities and the poetry of Vilis Pludons and Andrejs Eglitis.
5. The analysis and evaluation of the results of the lesson and of the interaction between the pupils and the teacher.
The first chapter is dedicated to the importance of literature lessons for the patriotic education of pupils. The second chapter is dedicated to the exploration of the personalities and the patriotic poetry of Vilis Pludons and Andrejs Eglitis. The third chapter is dedicated to the exploration of the special situation of youngers in this age-groupe, pupils of the class who will be part of the proble will be characterized. The preparation of the teacher for this lessons will be described including the programatic planning of his lesson. In the fourth chapter the development of the lessons which are about the personalities and the poetic creations of Vilis Pludons and Andrejs Eglitis will be described. In the fifth chapter the author analyses the interaction between the pupils and their teacher. In the appendix the author shows pedagogical materials he has prepeared for his lessons and what kind of examples he expects the pupils would create in these lessons.
The effectiveness of the pedagogical system has been examined in the pedagogical probe. This diplom-task is not only interesting for students but also for teachers of Latvian language and literature in middle-schools and other people in the pedagogical sphere
Exploring the Multigenerational Workforce\u27s Personal and Work Values: the Future Research Agenda
No full textPurpose. The purpose of the paper is to review the main contributors to the development of the topic of generational differences at workplaces and to explore emerging trends in the future research agenda.
Design/methodology/approach. The literature review, based on conceptual and relational content analyses, has been carried out to annotate and critique the literature on the topic of generational differences as a source of conflict or productivity. The paper develops three research questions and advances three hypotheses to prove or disprove for future research.
Findings. The paper provides scientific discussion and recommendations on literature sources that might be valuable for similar research on generational difference issues. The paper develops a theoretical framework for understanding the values of different generations and how they are formed and changed and provides a new conceptual model of future research.
Originality/value. The paper identifies four further streams of research on the correlation between personal and work values in the context of generational differences in the workplace; therefore, the paper can potentially contribute to the current scientific discussion on the multigenerational workforce’s personal and work values.

The theoretical part of the Master's Thesis contains the analysis of the nature and functions of team work and its organisational principles, in particular the organisation of a team at educational establishments. The aims, tasks, composition and cooperation of a support team at school are characterised. A more detailed analysis is provided in respect of learning disturbances and their causes and types.
Within the framework of the practical part of the Master's Thesis, a pedagogical surveillance of schoolchildren with learning disturbances has been carried out, the work of the support team with such schoolchildren has been analysed, the schoolchildren, parents and teachers have been polled to find out their opinion on cooperation with the support team at school, the necessity of such a team and the support provided. Likewise, interviews with the support team have been carried out in order to ask for the self – evaluation of work carried out by the team and to find out the methods for improving work with schoolchildren with learning disturbances.
