No full textÀ partir du milieu des années 1970, on note un regain d’intérêt scientifique pour les propriétés relationnelles dans l’analyse de l’action collective et des mouvements sociaux (Curtis et Zurcher, 1973), redécouvrant en cela la sociologie de Georg Simmel. Toutefois, les recherches visant à interroger systématiquement les formes d’action collective à partir de leurs caractéristiques relationnelles sont très récentes.
Ces recherches ont tiré profit des développements majeurs de la formalisation mathématique et de l’élaboration des traitements compréhensifs des données (Wasserman et Faust, 1994), ou encore des progrès récents des logiciels d’analyse de réseaux (De Nooy et al., 2005). De façon globale, ces travaux montrent que les réseaux peuvent apporter des réponses à certaines des interrogations centrales de la sociologie de la mobilisation, telles que la question de l’influence des contextes relationnels sur la mobilisation individuelle (Klandermans et Oegema, 1987) l’importance des pluri-appartenances associatives (Diani, 1995) et des réseaux interorganisationnels (Rosenthal et al., 1985), les processus de mobilisation et de contremobilisation (Franzosi, 1999), les échanges à travers les clivages traditionnels dans les sociétés profondément divisées (Cinalli, 2005) et l’impact des structures relationnelles de communautés entières sur le développement de leur action (R. V. Gould, 1995)

Citizenship and the Political Integration of Muslims: The Relational Field of French Islam
No full textThis book explores the political integration of Muslims and Islam across contemporary democracies. The author focuses on France, a country in which the integration of Muslims is usually seen as being problematic and controversial, and which is struggling with both Islamic radicalisation on the one hand, and the new wave of extreme-right populism on the other. Whereas conventional approaches to the topic of the integration of Muslims in France have tended to focus on single methods and sources, such as demographic characteristics or cultural and economic resources, the 'field mixed-method approach' offered in this book allows for a more nuanced analysis. It sheds new light on the interactive dynamics between policy processes, the role of key meso-level actors such as movements and associations, and the political entrepreneurship of Muslims themselves within the overarching frame of French citizenship.
The book thus assesses the extent to which a broad set of interactions link Muslim French to the broader community of French citizens. It will be of interest to scholars and students with an interest in Political Sociology, Islamic Studies, Citizenship and European Politics

No full textThe itinerant intellectuals and professionals of literature and music contributed
to shape a “popular culture” shared by communities and their artistic contribution
significantly impacted city life in the Hellenistic period. Inscriptions are
the primary sources attesting to this phenomenon and, depending on chronological,
geographical or thematic investigations, various approaches can be used in order to
effectively reconstruct the “poeti vaganti” cultural movement. A productive key of
interpretation lies in the analysis of professional profiles as it allows speculating on the
interaction of the itinerant artist with socio-cultural environment. Particularly, literary
production was one main aspect of this cultural expression and epigraphy provides us
with a large spectrum of valuable elements that aid in focusing on the itinerant poet’s
identity and role. Thus, by means of data categorization, the investigation on authorship
allows placing the author and his product in the proper context and reconstructing
the profiles of “poeti vaganti” in relation to performative occasions and audiences
Vita artistica e culturale nella Creta ellenistica
No full textIn the cultural panorama of the Hellenistic period, the itinerant professionals of music and literature attended the artistic routes searching for fame, glory, and rewards. Among the epigraphic sources attesting to the arts-on-the-move, Crete has its remarkable share of specialists arriving and travelling abroad to show off their artistic skills. The inscriptions – mostly dating to the 2nd and the 1st centuries BC – that allow us to draw a vision of the performative life of the Hellenistic Crete, testify to a significant inclination towards the trends of entertainment but most of all a firm bond to tradition. In particular, preserving the local heritage appears as a priority of the Cretan cities and the 2nd century cases of the delegations from Teos and Mylasa and of the γραμματικός Dioskourides from Tarsos – whose epigraphic documents are herein reconsidered – attest to this point
Networks and Political Contention over Unemployment: A Comparison of Britain, Germany and Switzerland
No full textThis article focuses on networks that are built in the field of unemployment in three main European states: namely, Britain, Germany, and Switzerland. It analyzes channels of exchanges between political parties, trade unions, pressure groups, nongovernmental organizotions (NGOs), organizations of the unemployed, as well as main policy actors and institutions. The main aim is to compare cross-nationally the extent to which similar sets of actors in different national fields build different patterns of exchange, and the dynamic relationship between these patterns of exchange and unemployment-related mobilization. Networks variation is matched against cross-national differences of collective action. Networks, it is argued, are an additional and necessary dimension of any investigation of collective action
