    20. yüzyıl Osmanlının son zamanlarına Cumhuriyet'in kuruluş dönemine tekabül eden vakitlerde Nakşibendî-Hâlidî geleneğin temsilcilerinden biri olan Mustafa Fevzi b. Nu'man (ö. 1924) kâtiplik vasfıyla Hâlidiyye kolunun Ziyâiyye şubesinde etkili bir sûfi şairdir. Mustafa Fevzi Efendi'nin manzum olarak kaleme aldığı eserlerin en önemlisi Kitâb-ı Ziyâiyye'dir. Bu eser İsbâtü'l Mesâlik ve Mizânü'l-İrfân adlı iki kısımdan oluşmuştur ve bu kısımlar müellif tarafından ayrı ayrı kitaplaştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmada esas olarak Matbaa-i Bahriyye'de basılmış, Kitâb-ı Ziyâiyye'nin ikinci kısmı olan Mizânü'l-İrfân adlı eser incelenmiştir. Eserde tasavvufun metafizik konuları, tasavvufî ıstılahlar ve Ziyâiyye ekolünün tasavvuf ve tarikat âdâbına dair görüşleri detaylıca anlatılmıştır.One of the representatives of the Naqshbandī -Halidī tradition, in the times corresponding to the establishment of the Republic in the late 20th century of the Ottoman Empire, was Mustafa Fawzī Nu'man (d. 1924), who with his qualification of a clerk in Hālidiyya's branch Ziyāiyya was an influential poet. One of the most important poetical works of Mustafa Fawzī Efendi is Kitab al-Ziyāiyya. This work consists of two chapters, Isbāt al-Masālik and Mizān al-Irfān, which were collected into separate books by the author. In this study, we examined the second part of Kitab al-Ziyāiyya, which was mainly printed in Matbaa al-Bahriyya, the Mizān al-Irfān.     Halka ait mekanlar olarak değerlendirilen kamusal alanlar, sanatın tüm insanlara ulaşabilmesine olanak tanıyan mecralardır. Galeri ve müzelerin yanı sıra dış mekanda da yer alan bu alanlar izleyicinin gündelik yaşamlarının içerisinde karşılaştıkları bu sanat pratikleri bağlamında tüm bireylerin görsel algılarını geliştirmeye yönelik çabalardır. Bu anlamda kamusal mekanlardaki sanat eserleri, izleyicilerin katılımı ile eserin kendisinin dönüşüm/değişime uğrayabileceği etkileşimli yapılar olmalarının yanı sıra, sanatçı-izleyici ve sanat eseri birlikteliğinin yoğun olarak yaşandığı öznel bir süreci de tanımlamaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sanatçı-izleyici ve mekan bağlamında kamusal alana yönelik bilgiler sunmak ve bu alanda gerçekleştirilen sanat pratiklerini Alexander Calder, Vahit Tuna, Banksy, Louise Bourgeois ve Andy Goldsworthy'nin eserleri özelinde inceleyerek ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma, betimsel yöntem ve tarama modeli ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgularda sanatçıların, kamusal alandaki sanat pratikleri ile duyarlı oldukları konulara yönelik iletmek istedikleri mesajları ön plana çıkardıkları, biçimsel olarak insanların dikkatini çeken görsel ögeleri kullanarak disiplinlerarası etkileşimlerde bulundukları görülmektedir. Kamusal alanda sanat pratikleri bağlamında heykel, yerleştirme (enstalasyon), duvar resmi, sözcük sanatı, performans gibi çeşitli sanat alanları dikkat çekmektedir. Çalışma özelinde incelenen sanat eserlerinin farklı sanat biçimlerinden örnekler oluşturmalarına dikkat edilerek seçim yapılmış ve bu çerçevede kamusal alanda sanat pratikleri farklı görsel sanat biçimleri ile sunulmuştur

    Sexuality in Retranslation: A Comparative Analysis on the Turkish Translations of Lady Chatterley’s Lover

    Translation of taboo language has always been athorny issue within the context of Turkish retranslations in the Republican Era.Scholarship on retranslation, today, is more based on describing thesocio-cultural norms governing the process of retranslation, rather than handlingthe existing translations on the basis of the worn-out ‘retranslationhypothesis’. It goes without saying that in the case of censorship,retranslations may not necessarily serve as products that subvert the taboos informer translations. With this in mind, each retranslation can be seen as apiece of mosaic that helps one to discern the total portrayal and understandingof the original work in the target culture. Based upon this analogicalperspective, this paper is an attempt to describe and compare Turkish (re)translationsof Lady Chatterley’s Lover in termsof taboo concepts. To this end, (re)translations by Avni İnsel (1945 and 1960),Akşit Göktürk (1968 and 1982), Meram Arvas (2012), Mehtap Gün Ayral (2012) andMeriç Selvi (2013) are to be delineated through a comparative CriticalDiscourse Analysis with respect to taboo elements. In line with this purpose, followingresearch questions will be the focus of analysis: (i) Do more recent retranslationsof Lady Chatterley’s Lover tend to becloser to the source text? (ii) What are the ways the so-called taboo conceptsin the novel, e.g. obscenity, as a stylistic and discourse marker, shape each (re)translation?(iii) What are the motivations and socio-political conditions that (re)shaped eachtranslation? And (iv) to what extent an integrative and holistic look into the mosaicof retranslations leads one to the source meaning? &nbsp;It can be noted that all Turkishretranslations of Lady Chatterley’s Lovercomprise a mosaic, if not a complete one. In this sense, eachretranslation, along with the socio-cultural conditions shaping it, is part ofthis mosaic. In fact, retranslations in different years by the same translators(namely Avni İnsel and Akşit Göktürk) differ considerably in the way thesubversive elements of the original work are rendered, which is an indicationof a deviation from Berman’s retranslation hypothesis. It is thought that the mosaicanalogy, in the interface of retranslation and taboo concepts, can run anddirect one closer to the discourse and style of the source only if allretranslations are taken into consideration. In this respect, the present studyis expected to provide a new perspective on retranslation, integrating the ideaof ‘retranslations as a mosaic’ and obscenity as a discourse marker. It willalso be the first case which handles Turkish translations of D.H.     Bi-Attempted Base Optimization Algorithm on Optimization of Hydrosystems

    This study aims to search for optimum design parameters for a slurry pipeline problem and optimum operation parameters for a multi-reservoir scheduling problem by using Bi-Attempted Base Optimization Algorithm (ABaOA), which has been recently developed as a numerical bidirectional search algorithm. The slurry pipeline problem is a constrained non-linear cost minimization problem with constraints on facility capacities. It has two separate cost terms that behave differently with changes in decision variables. The problem includes several decision variables in addition to the fact that the objective function is highly non-linear. On the other hand, the multi-reservoir problem is a well-known problem in Hydraulics that aims to maximize benefit by optimizing the releases of each reservoir. The problem has a known global optimum, which is used to test the abilities of the ABaOA. The ABaOA is developed from Base Optimization Algorithm (BaOA) by transforming its operators with the aim to diversify the search paths to reach the global optimum. Its applications in hydrosystems show that it converges to the optimum solutions in reasonable times. The results from the first application are compared to the ones obtained from Genetic Algorithms (GA) application. It is observed that ABaOA outperformed GA in terms of speed of convergence and finding a better alternative solution. The ABaOA reaches the global optimum in the second application.     Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türk edebiyatının unutulmaz isimlerinden biri olan Reşat Nuri Güntekin, üslubundaki akıcılık, teknik ve tahkiye ustalığının yanı sıra işlediği konularla da Türk halkının severek okuduğu sayısız esere imza atmış başarılı bir yazardır. Eserlerinde Anadolu&apos;yu, Anadolu insanını tüm yönleriyle verirken döneminin sosyal yapısına, yaşanılan toplumsal değişime ve ferdî olduğu kadar toplumsal problemlere de ışık tutmuştur. Acımak ve Yaprak Dökümü adlı romanlar da yazarın bahsedilen özelliklerini taşıyan eserlerindendir. Yazar, gerek Acımak&apos;ta gerekse Yaprak Dökümü&apos;nde sosyal yaşamda var olma mücadelesi veren bireyi, bu bireyin toplumsal değişim karşısında yaşadığı zorlukları konu edinir. Her iki romanda da sorunlarla başa çıkmaya çalışan bir ?baba? motifi vardır ve iletilmek istenen mesaj iki farklı babanın hayat penceresinden sunulur. Bu çalışmada öncelikle Reşat Nuri Güntekin&apos;in yaşamı, edebi kişiliği ve eserleri hakkında bilgi verilmiş, ilerleyen bölümlerde söz konusu romanlar incelenerek bu romanlarda yazarın ?baba? motifini nasıl ele aldığı problemi üzerinde durulmuştur. Bu bağlamda, yazar bu eserlerde baba ile ilgili hangi özellikleri ön plana çıkartmış, hangi amaçla bu baba karakterlerini yaratmış sorularının cevapları aranmaya çalışılmıştır.Resat Nuri Güntekin is an accomplished writer who is one of the reputable names in Turkish literature in the Republican era with his stylistic fluency, his mastery of the technical and narrative aspects, and has countless works read fondly by Turkish people. In his works he tried to give all aspects of Anatolia and Anatolian people, and also he shed light on social problems of the age as well as the social structure which experienced social and individual change. The author&apos;s novels named Yaprak Dökümü and Acımak bare the aforementioned features of his works. Both in Yaprak Dökümü and Acımak, the author narrates individuals who struggle to exist in social life and the adversaries of an individual in the face of social change. In each novel, there is a ?father? figure trying to cope with the problems and a message presented through the life views of these two different fathers. In this study, Resat Nuri Güntekin?s life, his literary identity and his works are presented initially, and in the following sections, the problem of the author?s use of the ?father? figure is focused on through the examination of these novels. Within this context, it has been tried to find out the answers to the questions of ?how the author deals with the ?father? figure in these works, what features of the father are emphasized, and for what purpose the father character was created?

    Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Ana Bilim DalıKlasik Türk Edebiyatı manzum ağırlıklı bir edebiyattır. Bu alanda çeşitli konularda yazılmış pek çok eser bulunmaktadır. Mensur hikâye, bu alanda verilen manzum eserler kadar gün yüzüne çıkmamıştır. Ancak az da olsa mensur hikâye örneklerine rastlanılmaktadır. Yüksek lisans tezi olarak hazırlanan bu eser, mensur hikâye geleneğini içinde değerlendirilmiştir. Alî tarafından kaleme alınan "Alî'nin Hikâye-i Şâh Cihân ve Gevher-Nigîn'i" adlı bu eser, tek nüsha olup Almanya-Berlin Millî Kütüphanesi, Staatsbibliothek bölümü, Ms. Or. Fol. 4110 numarada kayıtlıdır. Metin 69 varaktan müteşekkil, harekesiz nesih hattıyla yazılmıştır. Metin içerisinde yer alan boş kısımların süsleme amacıyla boş bırakıldığı varsayılmaktadır. Eserin müellifi hakkında net bilgiye ulaşılamamıştır. Metin, giriş, eserin yazarı hakkında, eserin tahlili, dil ve anlatım özellikleri mitolojik ve efsanevi şahıslar, transkripsiyonlu metin ve sonuç kısmından oluşmaktadır. Eserin tahlili kısmı başlığı, konusu, temi ve tezi; olay örgüsü; motif yapısı; eserde zaman; eserde mekân; eserin şahıs kadrosu; eserin anlatım özellikleri ve eserde yer alan diğer unsurlar (hayvanlar, meslekler, musiki, kozmik âlem) geniş bir şekilde ele alınıp metinde örnekleriyle gösterilmiştir. Metinde incelenen özellikler tespit edilerek sonuç kısmında değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. "Alî'nin Hikâye-i Şâh Cihân ve Gevher-Nigîn'i" adlı bu eserin tahkiye esaslı metin olması, bünyesinde fazlaca şiirler bulundurması ve kaynağı itibarıyla Camasabname'nin hikâye örneklerinden birini teşkil etmesi bakımından önemlidir. There are many works written in verse and in several different topics. Prosaic tales haven't come to light as much as verse. But even though there aren't much, examples of prosaic tales can be found. This work that is been written, can be included in the prosaic tale tradition. Written by Alî, "Alî'nin Hikâye-i Şâh Cihân" and "Gevher-Nigîn'i", consists of only one copy and is in the Staatsbibliothek section of the Berlin National Library and is registered in Ms. Or. Fol 4110. The text consists of 69 folios and is written in naskh lettering without vowel points. I am in the opinion that the empty sections of the text are left blank for decorative purposes. There have been found no definite information about the author. The structure of my study is such: introduction, sections about the author, the analysis of the text, language and narrative features, mythological and epic figures, the transcription of the text and conclusion. In the analysis section which constitutes a large part of my study, the title, the theme, thesis statement, the plot, the structure of motives, time and place, figures, the narrative properties and the other factors in the text, (animals, occupations, music and cosmic universe), are all examined thoroughly with examples from the text. The examined attributes of the text are identified and evaluated in the conclusion section. "Alî'nin Hikâye-i Şâh Cihân ve Gevher-Nigîn'i" named story's the text is important because it is based on the narrative, includes many poems in it and through its source, is an example of Camasabname's stories.     Development of an Intelligent Model to Estimate the Probability of having Metabolic Syndrome

    AbstractLogistic regression has now become an essential part of medical data analysis that uses a binary-response model. The model is frequently used by epidemiologists as a model for the probability (interpreted as the risk) that an individual will acquire a disease during a specified time period, during which he or she is exposed to a condition (called a risk factor) known to be or suspected of being associated with the disease. The objective is to establish a model using a minimum number of variables, and is also able to identify the relationship between the dependent variable and independent variable. Additionally, the study will determine the risk factors that can lead to the development of metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) and will establish an intelligent and biologically acceptable model for estimating the probability of having the condition, based on the NCEP ATP III criteria. In this study, binary logistic regression analysis has been employed in order to specify the risk factors that affect metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) is a common metabolic disorder that is increasingly caused by the pervasiveness of obesity in society and diagnosed according to the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) Adult Treatment Panel III (ATP III) Identification1. The data has been obtained from the laboratory test results of 321 adult individuals who had consecutively been treated by the Near East University Internal Medicine Department. For this intelligent model, binary logistic regression analysis has been used. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates have been detected as 94.7%, 96.0% and 95.5%, respectively. As a result, homeostatic model assessment (HOMA-IR), uric acid, body mass index (BMI), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, age, smoking, education level (EL) are defined as metabolic syndrome risk factors, the model has been estimated by using those variables in the acquired intelligent model. As a consequence of the research, it has been determined that the key elements that can have an impact are the changeable risk factors, meaning that the illness could be destroyed before it actually occurs, and lifestyle change, that can also prevent the illness
