The determination of polyphenols content in white mulberry leaves.
E. Ciampi, G. Alonzo, A. Sinacori.
Cultivation of Mulberry, particularly Morus alba L., was introduced in Europe between the ninth and the twelfth centuries together with sericulture. Mulberry as both Morus alba L. and Morus nigra L. Species, is a rustic plant, well suited for the Mediterranean climate and which is also appreciated for its fruits. Found in the past useful in medicinal applications, is now, from recent studies, indicated as potential health beneficial for the high content in polyphenol substances. Mulberry leaves from 13 varieties, grown in the experimental field of the University of Palermo, Agriculture Faculty, have been investigated for their content in antioxidant substances and particularly for polyphenols. A fast and simple spectrophotometric method for these analyses was developed. The total phenolic content was in the range 953-332 mg gallic acid equivalent /100g fresh mater. The highest amount was observed in the Sinuenze variety while the lowest was in the Kokusò 27 variety.

An algorithm for Web service discovery through their composition
The web services stack of standards is designed to support the reuse and the interoperation of software components on the web. A critical step in the process of developing applications based on the service oriented architecture is the service discovery. This paper shows how service composition can be used as a technique to support service discovery. The paper discusses the current state of research in this area and introduces a semantic matching algorithm that exploits the possibility to compose multiple services in order to satisfy a service request

On the Parameters Characterizing the Thermal Transient Behavior of the External Walls of Buildings
Assuming the indoor air temperature to be constant, the thermal transient behavior of a building envelope’s opaque wall, stressed by external temperature sinusoidal oscillations, is characterized by the following parameters: the decrement factor f, the wall inner surface decrement factor s, the time lag t and the dynamic thermal transmittance UD. Such parameters depending on the wall thermal resistance and thermal capacity, on the period of the external thermal stress and on the stratigraphy of the wall, have been studied by several authors and can be found within the European technical standards (e.g. EN ISO 13786/2007) and Italian national and local rules (e.g. legislative decrees for the implementation of EPBD). In this paper the Author, after deducing by the transmission matrices method the expressions of f, s, t and UD, and discussing in detail their meaning, solve the following problem: to determine (in a lumped-parameter schematization) the stratigraphy of a wall, with given thermal resistance and capacity, minimizing the decrement factor f as well as the stratigraphy of a wall maximizing the time lag t
Energy efficiency in buildings: a parameter for the thermal qualification of opaque building envelope
A new parameter e (0<=e<=1), called coefficient of performance, is introduced, whose value quantifies the suitability of the distribution of resistive and capacitive layers in a multi-layer wall, within problems concerning thermal building-plant interaction in case of external sinusoidal or impulsive thermal variations. After giving an integral expression for the calculation of e, the coefficient’s of performance properties are discussed; simple relations allowing to evaluate the value of e in case of walls made of two materials only, i.e. of a capacitive layer followed by a resistive one (two-component walls), are also deduced. The developed analysis shows that the optimal ideal wall, to which the maximum value of e corresponds (e=1), is the lumped-parameter, three-layer, symmetrical one, obtained by lumping all capacity in the midplane of the wall and by distributing the resistance, split up into two equal slabs, on the faces. Finally, the coefficient’s of performance values for different two component walls, realized with materials commonly used in building, have been calculated
