No full textNella società contemporanea, definita anche società del rischio globale, la crisi idrica riveste un ruolo decisivo ma controverso rispetto ad altri rischi (sanitari, ambientali, finanziari, bellici). Essa infatti colpisce maggiormente le aree geografiche del sud del mondo, dove tale risorsa è sempre più carente e di scarsa qualità; al contrario i Paesi industriali avanzati hanno un approccio poco responsabile nei confronti di un bene così prezioso e di una fonte che è esauribile e limitata. I vantaggi dello sviluppo e della globalizzazione non sono infatti distribuiti equamente a livello geografico e il gap tra i "ricchi" e gli "ultimi della Terra" sta diventando sempre più profondo. Eppure uno sviluppo che intenda essere davvero sostenibile deve affrontare globalmente il problema della disponibilità dell’acqua potabile, della sua qualità, del suo accesso pubblico, in un’ottica di gestione e condivisione democratica di tale risorsa. Accedere all’acqua è un diritto fondamentale, universale e inalienabile, ma se non si attuerà un’inversione di tendenza a livello sociale, economico e politico, tale bene continuerà ad essere sempre più mercificato e privatizzato.In contemporary society, also known as global risk society, the water crisis plays a decisive role but controversial than other risks (health, environmental, financial, war). In fact, it affects more geographic areas of the Southern Hemisphere, where the resource is increasingly inadequate and of poor quality, on the contrary the advanced industrial countries have an irresponsible approach towards such a precious and a source that is exhaustible and limited. The benefits of development and globalization are not evenly distributed geographically fact and the gap between the "" rich "" and "" the last of the Earth "" is becoming deeper and deeper. Yet one who wishes to be truly sustainable development must address the overall problem of the availability of drinking water, its quality, its public access, in the interests of democratic management and sharing of the resource. Access to water is a fundamental, universal and inalienable right, but if you do not implement a turnaround in social, economic and political, that property will continue to be increasingly commodified and privatized

'Water divide' in the global risk society
No full textIn contemporary society, which is also defined as global risk society, the water crisis plays a controversial but decisive role in comparison with other kinds of risk (health care, environmental, financial, warlike). However, the sociological debate does not confer to the world water crisis the right significance: the essay precisely highlights this lack and focuses on the hypothesis that it could be also connected to the lack of interest that mass media agenda-setting shows to this issue. The result is that, in most cases, industrialized countries show an irresponsible approach towards a resource which is so precious for the simple fact that it is exhaustible. Furthermore, the advantages of both development and globalization are not equally distributed from a geographic point of view, and the gap between the 'rich' and the 'poor' is getting deeper and deeper also within this phenomenon. According to the author's perspective, it would be reasonable to talk about a water divide and assume a sustainable development capable of dealing with the overall problem of drinking water availability, its quality, its public access, with a view to democratic management and the sharing of this resource. © 2013 Copyright University of Rome 'La Sapienza'
