Depressive Heart Patients. How to Identify? How to Treat? Depressive symptoms or disorders are frequent comorbidities in patients with heart disease. They interact with heart disease via psychophysiological and behavioural pathways. Their impact on subjective and objective disease outcomes includes, among others, increased health care costs, early retirement and premature death from heart disease. For the detection of depression, a stepwise approach consisting of screening and, if positive, diagnostic interviews has been recommended. Both specific questions asked during history taking and self-rating questionnaires have been found useful as screening tools. Specific treatment options for depression include psychotherapy and – in severe or recurrent cases – antidepressant medicatio

Prof. Christoph Herrmann-Lingen, Direktor der Klinik für Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie an der Universitätsmedizin Göttingen und Mitglied des AWMF-Präsidiums, ist auf der Jahrestagung der American Psychosomatic Society (APS) vom 18.-21.3.2015 in Savannah (USA) zu deren Präsidenten gewählt worden.
