Wroughtonia pterolophiae Chou et Hsu is similar to W. spinator (Lepeletier) and differs by having the second tergite punctate (smooth in W. spinator); apical half of hind femur and hind tibia dark brown (mainly yellowish brown) and the dorsal carinae of first tergite weakly developed and remaining far removed from each other (fig. 77 in Chou et Hsu, 1998; strongly developed, lamelliform basally and converging to each other (fig. 44 in van Achterberg, 1987)). Sericothrips houji (Chou & Feng) comb. n. (Figs. 6 –7, 10–15, 18– 20) Hydatothrips houji Chou & Feng, 1990: 9 –10. Sussericothrips melilotus Han, 1991: 208. syn. n. Female macroptera and microptera (Figs 18–19). Distended body length about 1.0– 1.3 mm. Head, thorax, abdominal terga VII–X and antennal segments IV–VIII brown; abdominal terga I–III pale brown, IV–VI paler; antecostal ridges on terga II–VII dark brown (Fig. 6). Fore wings brown with sub-basal pale band; legs bearing microtrichia, all tibae and tarsus brownish yellow, coxa and femora brown. Head 1.4–1.5 times as wide as long (Fig. 7); three pairs of ocellar setae present, ocellar setae III situated outside of ocellar triangle; occipital apodeme very near to posterior margin of eyes (Fig. 7). Antennae 8 -segmented, segments III and IV each with forked sensoria (Figs 14–15). Antennal segments I–VIII length/width: 0.7, 1.5, 3.2– 3.3, 3.0– 3.1, 2.9 –3.0, 3.3–3.4, 2.5–2.6, and 3.1–3.3. Pronotum 1.8–1.9 times as wide as long, reticulate with a large blotch and thick setae; metanotum sculptured, with a pair of median setae situated behind anterior margin (Fig. 11); tarsi 2 -segmented. Fore wing second vein without setae. Abdominal segments with dense rows of microtrichia across terga; terga I–VIII with posteromarginal comb complete medially, median setae placed equidistant on terga I–VIII (Fig. 6). Abdominal sterna without discal setae; sterna II–VII with setae on posterior margin, on VII situated anterior to margin (Fig. 10). Male microptera (Figs 12, 20). Distended body length about 0.9 –1.0 mm. Similar to female but smaller (Fig. 11); with a small circular pore plate on abdominal sterna IV–VII (Fig. 13). Material examined. CHINA: Shaanxi Province, Yangling, holotype female, 5 female, 1 male paratypes, from grasses, 21.vi. 1987 (Feng Ji-Nian) NWAFU; 8 females, 1 male from clover, 22.v. 2010 (M. Mirab-balou) ZJUH; Shandong Province, Qinzhou, 2 females, 3 males from clover, 26.v. 2010 (Lu Hong, Wei, Shu-Jun, M. Mirabbalou) ZJUH; Beijing, 2 females from alfalfa, 26.v. 2010 (Lu, H., M. Mirab-balou) ZJUH. Holotype female of Sussericothrips melilotus with 1 female and 1 male paratypes, IOZ. Distribution. China (Shaanxi, Shandong, Beijing, Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia). Remarks. Han described S. melilotus from Beijing and Gansu, whereas Chou & Feng described H. houji from Yangling. H. houji was compared originally with H. boerhaaviae (Seshadri & Ananthakrishnan), but is here transferred to Sericothrips because of the following character states: presence of microtrichia completely across the abdominal terga, sterna and metanotum (in both micropterous and macropterous morphs); shape of the metasternum; tergal posterior margins with complete microtrichial comb; abdominal terga II–VII with median setae placed similarly and of similar size. S. melilotus shares these character states, and as no further differences could be found after studying Han’s original specimens, this species is here considered a synonym. Wroughtonia alba Chou et Hsu 1998, comb. nov.
Wroughtonia alba (Chou et Hsu, 1998), comb. nov. Helcon albus Chou et Hsu, 1998: 295 –296. Comparative diagnosis. Similar to W. zhejiangensis, but W. alba has vein 1r-m of hind wing about as long as vein 1-M, the ventral protuberance of the hind femur wide (narrow in W. zhejiangensis), the precoxal sulcus shallow and without rugae (distinctly impressed and with rugae) and the hind coxa is reticulate dorsally (sparsely punctulate). Host. Unknown. Distribution. China (Taiwan). Notes. Helcon albus Chou et Hsu from Taiwan is included in Wroughtonia, because it has a wide obtuse ventral protuberance on the hind femur, the hind tarsus is pale and the antenna has a white band. The species is included provisionally in the key on basis of the original description, because the holotype (and only known specimen of W. alba) was not available for examination. Spasskia anastasiae Belokobylskij from Far East Russia is included in Wroughtonia (as other Spasskia spp.) but is not close to the other species because of the obtuse ventral protuberance of the hind femur and the shape of the first tergite and of the occipital carina. Araragi panda sichuanensis Hsu & Li, subsp. nov. Type materials. Holotype. ♂: CHINA: SICHUAN Prov., Yaan Shi, Baoxing Xian, 1400 m, reared from Cyclocarya paliurus, emgd. 9. V. 2019, Coll. A. Li & Y. VIII. 2018, Coll. A. Li. (IOZ, FNNR, NTNU). Male (Figs. 1–2): FL 16.5–21.3 mm (mean 19.5± 1.2 mm, n=12); female (Figs. 3–4): FL: 17.5–21.3 (mean 19.9±1.0 mm, n=14). Diagnosis. The distinction between subspecies sichuanensis Hsu & Li, subsp. nov. and nominotypical A. panda is mainly on markings of wing undersides: 1) M1 and M2 spots of the distal band of central symmetry system on forewing underside are detached from R5 spot in the nominotypical subspecies, whereas they are conjoined with R5 spot in ssp. sichuanensis; 2) proximal band of central symmetry system is large, with width much broader than cell bar in the nominotypical subspecies, whereas that is small, narrower or as wide as cell bar in ssp. sichuanensis; 3) three spots of the proximal band of central symmetry system near wing base on hindwing underside are conjoined into a bar in the nominotypical subspecies, whereas they are separated, notably the posterior spot, in ssp. sichuanensis; 4) ground color of wing undersides is overlaid with prominent gray scalings in ssp. sichuanensis, whereas it is paler with gray scalings poorly developed in the nominotypical subspecies. Ssp. yunnanensis is different from ssp. sichuanensis and the nominotypical subspecies by the greatly reduced proximal band of central symmetry system on forewing underside. Hostplant. Cyclocarya paliurus (Juglandaceae). Bionomics. Adults were observed staying on foliage of the hostplants, descending to understory vegetation when sunshine was intensive with high temperature in fair weather. Ova (Figs. 5–6) were mostly found on naked leaflet in dormancy, but occasionally on small twig. Green larva (Fig. 7) devours young tissue of the hostplant such as new buds and soft leaves. Brown pupa (Fig. 8) is girdled. Distribution. Araragi panda sichuanensis Hsu & Li, subsp. nov. has been so far found in a few canyons in Baoxing area in Sichuan Province, belonging to north-south oriented Qionglai Mountain Range.
