Teaching is one of the most stressful professions, and school teachers show a high turnover rate. Although it is an important issue in society, the work-life balance of teachers has not been extensively addressed in the context of leisure. Therefore, given the critical role of leisure in life, this study examined the relationships among school teachers’ leisure nostalgia, leisure satisfaction, work commitment, turnover intention, and well-being. A total of 489 responses were collected from school teachers in Singapore. Results revealed leisure nostalgia positively influenced leisure satisfaction and work commitment. Furthermore, leisure satisfaction had positive effects on work commitment and well-being, while work commitment negatively affected turnover intention and positively affected well-being. This study also found the significant indirect effects of leisure nostalgia on work commitment, turnover intention, and well-being. This study contributes to a better understanding of the work-leisure relationship and provides strategies to improve well-being

Nostalgia plays a crucial role in individuals’ psychological and behavioral responses. To identify the influence of nostalgia on leisure participants’ life, this study examined how individuals’ leisure nostalgia influenced their life satisfaction, thereby reinforcing their leisure participation intention. 417 responses were collected from leisure participants and analyzed in this study. Results showed that leisure nostalgia positively affected life satisfaction and leisure participation intention. In addition, life satisfaction had a significant effect on leisure participation intention. Further analysis revealed that the indirect effects of nostalgia regarding group identity and personal identity on leisure participation intention were significantly stronger than those of nostalgia regarding leisure experience, environment, and socialization. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are discussed

While nostalgia has been explored in various contexts, no research has so far investigated how individuals’ nostalgia can be generated by volunteer experiences in compulsory settings and how nostalgic feelings extend their future behavior. To fill this research gap, this study explored how nostalgia regarding compulsory volunteering is related to positive memories, age, and past experiences and how such nostalgia translates to volunteer intention. A total of 605 responses were collected from university students who had completed compulsory volunteering at sporting events and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results showed that positive memories contributed to all five factors of volunteer nostalgia, while past experiences only predicted volunteer environment, volunteer socialization, and volunteer personal identity. Age was not a significant antecedent to any of the volunteer nostalgia factors. Nostalgia regarding volunteer experience and volunteer personal identity mediated the relationship between positive memories and volunteer intention. This study confirmed previous claims concerning the relationships among nostalgia, positive memories, age, and past experiences in the context of compulsory volunteering. Specifically, individuals can develop nostalgia for coerced experiences if they have fond memories of them. Also, past experiences are more essential to nostalgia than age but not as much as positive memories, and nostalgia can turn compulsory volunteers into continued volunteers

Nostalgia is one of the most critical constructs influencing individuals’ future behavioral intention. However, a measurement scale for nostalgia has not been widely explored and has not been developed in the context of leisure. Therefore, the study aimed to develop a scale, based on the classification of nostalgia, to measure nostalgic leisure behavior. This study followed a rigorous scale development procedure to achieve adequate psychometric properties. The leisure nostalgia scale developed in this study contributes to a deeper understanding of nostalgia in leisure and expands extant knowledge by building a comprehensive conceptual framework in leisure research. In addition, a better understanding of leisure nostalgia allows researchers to extend this model with other leisure constructs and more effectively explain leisure participation in various populations. Drawing on the findings of this study, managers in the leisure industry can develop and implement effective strategies to appeal to leisure participants and promote business competitiveness

Dual role of a student and athlete can result in stress and affect the student-athletes’ well-being. Past literature has identified social support as one of the variables that can improve well-being. However, there is a lack of studies that focus on teammates support. Based on SOR model and broaden-and-build theory, this study examined if the perception of teammates support can influence well-being through positive emotions and self-esteem. Findings of this study are beneficial for coaches or student-leaders to design strategies to improve well-being of student-athletes. A total of 336 participants who are student-athletes in Singapore Universities took part in this study through completing either an online or hardcopy survey and 313 data were valid for analysis. Analysis of data was done through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) to remove univariate and multivariate outliers as well as through the use of Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) for the testing of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Results indicated that perceived teammates support has positive influence on well-being through positive emotion and/or self-esteem. However, there is no direct influence from perceived teammates support to well-being. The findings support the important role of perceived teammates support in enhancing well-being through positive emotions and self-esteem.Bachelor of Science (Sport Science and Management

Introduction: Many students in Singapore Universities are experiencing high levels of stress and burnout during the course of their studies. Based on the global rankings of universities, local universities such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) are ranked comparably at the top with universities such as Harvard University (“QS World University Rankings 2018”, 2017). Therefore, this study aims to investigate the impact of leisure involvement on life satisfaction and academic motivation of university students in Singapore. Hypothesis: It is hypothesized that H1: There is a positive relationship between leisure involvement and life satisfaction and H2: There is a positive relationship between leisure involvement and life satisfaction. Methods: Participants were randomly chosen to answer a questionnaire measuring leisure involvement, academic motivation and life satisfaction. CFA and SEM were then used in SPSS, AMOS to measure the variables of the constructs, testing for goodness of fit, AVE, composite reliability and Cronbach alpha. Results: Model fit for CFA and SEM was achieved. For CFA, Chi-square = 1,002.009, Df = 526, CFI = 0.924, TLI = 0.909, RMSEA = 0.060. For SEM, Chi-square = 1142.791, Df = 574, CFI = 0.909, TLI = 0.901, RMSEA = 0.063. The results showed a positive relationship between leisure involvement with academic motivation and life satisfaction, (H1: 0.447, P < 0.001; H2: 0.464, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Results from this study will allow students to be more aware of the benefits of leisure and how it increases their life satisfaction and academic motivation.Bachelor of Science (Sport Science and Management

Serious leisure promotes life satisfaction and improves well-being. As a concept, it encompasses both reasons and outcomes for participation. This study looks outside the scope of its innate characteristics and looks at how nostalgia could affect serious leisure participation, and in turn result in personal growth and happiness. 305 responses were collected from serious leisure participants through the completion of a questionnaire. The data was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Results showed that nostalgia had a significant positive effect on serious leisure participation. Nostalgia was reported to have indirect effects on personal growth and happiness as well. In addition, serious leisure positively affected personal growth and indirectly affected happiness. These findings will provide a deeper understanding on the relationship between the constructs and aid in widening the extant literature on serious leisure and its outcomes.Bachelor of Science (Sport Science and Management

Sport fans’ behaviour : the relationship between nostalgia, team loyalty, attitude toward sponsors, and behavioural intentions

European football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Spectators enjoy football for the aspects of self-identity, socialisation, and rituals among other factors. These characteristics of football create an appropriate environment for nostalgia. Previous studies have found that nostalgia can lead to team loyalty, positive attitude toward sponsors, and behavioural intentions like travelling to attend sport events or purchasing a sponsor’s products. The current study aims to build a research model that connects the four constructs and determine if nostalgia has an effect on fan loyalty, attitude toward sponsors, and future behavioural intentions. A total of 317 European football league fans in Singapore participated in the study by completing an online questionnaire. Data were then screened using Statistical Package for the Social Science, and further analysed through Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling using Analysis of Moment Structure. Results showed significant relationships for the following: nostalgia on team loyalty (H1: 0.615, p=0.001), attitude toward sponsors (H2: 0.557, p=0.001), and behavioural intentions (H3: 0.280, p=0.004), team loyalty on attitude toward sponsors (H4: –0.138, p=0.003), and attitude toward sponsors on behavioural intentions (H6: 1.077, p<0.001). Furthermore, team loyalty and attitude toward sponsors partially mediate between nostalgia and behavioural intentions (H7: –0.770, p=0.001). These findings will allow organisations to understand that nostalgia, team loyalty, and attitude toward sponsors are needed as driving factors for football fans to visit the home grounds of football clubs or purchase sponsor products, as well as better predict fans’ behaviour, needs, and demands.Bachelor of Science (Sport Science and Management
