Slow movements that create hope: Psychotherapy with a boy diagnosed with ASD
In this chapter the author presents his work as a child and adolescent psychotherapist in a Special Needs School, focusing on psychotherapy with a 5-year-old boy with a diagnosis of autism. Providing child psychoanalytic psychotherapy within a special school lends itself to the slow movement that children with ASD need in order to develop their capacity to relate. A gradual approach is anchored in the familiarity of the institutional setting, which forms part of the therapy setting. This allows for a bit-by-bit awareness of difference, which is necessary in order for a child with ASD to begin to tolerate wider and deeper emotional experiences, including separateness and separation. Working closely with school staff as well as family means that there is immediate and ongoing support for even the tiniest shifts in a child’s capacity. When the relationship between psychotherapy, family. and the school is working well enough, developments in the child can be met by developments in the family and school systems, promoting reality-based hope of contact with a lively other
The effectiveness of digital tools to maintain physical activity among people with a long-term condition/s: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Objective: Given the well-accepted health benefits, it is important to identify scalable ways to support people with long-term conditions (LTCs) to remain physically active. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effect of digital tools on the maintenance of physical activity (PA) amongst this population.Methods: Electronic databases were searched for randomised controlled trials investigating the effect of digital tools on PA maintenance at least three months post-intervention compared with a non-digital control in participants with long-term conditions. Meta-analyses were conducted at post-intervention and longest maintenance timepoint; subgroup analyses explored the effect of the type of control. Prospero registration: CRD42022299967.Results: Twenty-three studies (n = 5350 participants) were included, with the majority at unclear/high risk of bias. Web-based tools were commonly used (18 studies), 10 monitored PA with a sensor, and digital interventions were often combined with supervised exercise/walks. The overall meta-analysis showed no significant difference in PA between digital interventions compared with any type of control (device-based outcomes: SMD = −0.07, 95% CI [−0.35, 0.21]; self-reported outcomes: SMD = 0.11, 95% CI [−0.01, 0.24]). However, this was moderated by type of control group with subgroup analyses suggesting that the effect of digital interventions on PA surpassed that of an inactive/minimal control at post-intervention (SMD = 0.29) and maintenance timepoints (SMD = 0.24).Conclusions: This review provides preliminary evidence that interventions incorporating digital tools may be more effective than minimal controls at supporting people with LTCs to maintain PA. Given the quality of the evidence, confidence in these findings is very low and may change with future research

The use of zinc oxide in hybrid inorganic-organic photovoltaic devices
Organic photovoltaics (OPV) and hybrid organic-inorganic photovoltaics (HOPV) have the potential to provide alternative and economical energy sources; with the long-term goal of delivering renewable resources with longevity. Recent improvements in cell design and material combinations have revealed the true potential of this field. For this to be reached, continuous advancements in materials, concept development, encapsulation and scientific understanding are necessary.
This thesis focuses on the use of zinc oxide (ZnO) in the field of both HOPVs and OPVs. ZnO had been successfully implemented for decades in a range of applications, including light emitting diodes and biological sensors due to its diverse chemical and physical properties along with the ease of fabrication. Initially ZnO is investigated as a direct replacement for a fullerene acceptor offering the potential of improved energetic matching to the donor material used. The latter stages of this thesis looks at the use of ZnO as an electron extracting layer for a polymeric active layer.
Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction to the field of photovoltaics and the materials used in this thesis. In Chapter 2 an overview of the experimental techniques used is given. In Chapter 3, inverted HOPV devices are fabricated. The potential of ZnO as a promising electron acceptor is shown, utilizing the donor material boron subphthalocyanine chloride (SubPc), a typical small molecule (SM) organic semiconductor. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) shows subtle differences in the electronic structure of ZnO films in terms of Zn:O ratio when the processing temperature is varied, and Kelvin Probe (KP) revealed a significant difference in the surface work function. Variation in annealing temperature is shown to improve the open circuit voltage (from 0.82 V to 1.23 V) of the device and therefore enhance the performance.
Chapter 4 compares two methods used to probe energy levels. The chapter compares the differences between the data obtained for identical ZnO samples using ultra-violet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) and KP. The surface composition is also monitored throughout by XPS. The chapter reveals that ZnO is susceptible to UV irradiation and the impact on the measurements is discussed.
One of the main limitations of the planar HOPV is photocurrent. Chapter 5 looks to improve this through the implementation of a molybdenum oxide (MoOx) optical spacer layer. Optical modelling is initially used to predict the impact of varying the layer thickness of SubPc and MoOx. The model is developed further by including the diffusion length (LD) of the SubPc donor material. The improved estimates are compared to an experimental data set of 40 different thickness combinations. Optical optimisation resulted in a 62 % improvement in device performance, compared to the layer thicknesses used in Chapter 3.
The use of ZnO as an electron extracting layer with a polymeric active layer is investigated in Chapter 6. Two methods for ZnO layer formation, electrodeposition (ED) and sol-gel (SG) are compared using two different transparent electrodes, indium tin oxide (ITO) and transparent gold (tAu). ED ZnO layers have issues with transparency and reproducibility lowering the overall averaged performance.
This thesis highlights the important role ZnO can play in the development of OPV and HOPV devices. The research provides an important step for understanding the fundamental principles governing the operation of hybrid solar cells and helps to close the gap between TMO/polymer and TMO/SM devices. The performances of these TMO/SM devices reach efficiencies exceeding 0.70 %, compared to previous published devices only reaching 0.017 %

Thinking With Contemporary Art: Re Envisioning Material Movements in Early Childhood Spaces
<div class="page" title="Page 1"><div class="section"><div class="layoutArea"><div class="column"><p><span>This article focuses on the unfolding processes and surprising openings that are revealed through engaging with themes produced by contemporary art in early childhood settings. </span><span>Rather than contemplating objects of art as finished pieces </span><span>with inherent meanings, this article shows how materials and themes are in a constant state of becoming. Central to the article is the work of Korean artist Kimsooja and the themes </span><span>generated through her recent exhibit, Unfolding. The author presents a series of reflections about the transformative effect </span><span>of this artist’s work in clearing away the author’s previously held understandings of how thinking through the work of contemporary artists is done in early childhood spaces. </span></p></div></div></div></div></jats:p
The art of advertising happiness: Agnès Varda’s<i>Le Bonheur</i>and Pop Art
This paper argues that, further to the established artistic influences on Le Bonheur, for example vibrant Impressionist tableaux such as Édouard Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe (1863) and Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s La Grenouillère (1869), Pop Art shapes both the aesthetic and the content of the film. As in the films of her friend Jean-Luc Godard, the paper argues, discrete images from Varda’s New Wave film critique contemporaneous advertising, principally that which is aimed at and objectifies women, in similar ways to Pop Art images of the era. Certainly, Pop’s images abounded with semi-nude and nude women, some of whom were not ironically presented but offered as a continuation of advertising’s gallery of sexualised female bodies. Andreas Huyssen argues, however, that Pop as a critical medium was cultivated by European artists in the 1960s who were ‘trying to develop an art of social criticism’. The author draws similar links between Pop Art, advertising and the cinema, locating those moments at which they interweave in Le Bonheur to reflect the Pop Art form and message. He suggests that the appropriation of consumerist imagery in Varda’s film, as in Pop Art, is an ironic counterpoint used to critique society as perceived by the artist

Dendroclimatological investigation of river red gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnhardt)
Deposited with permission of the author. © 1995 Dr. Robert Murray Argent.This thesis examines the growth ring structure of Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnhardt and investigates links between ring features and the climatic conditions under which growth took place. Samples of E. camaldulensis from the Barmah Forest (near the River Murray in northern Victoria) were used in the study. E. camaldulensis growth is linked to periodic flooding, and the Barmah Forest contains sites that are frequently flooded. Wood samples were obtained from sites subject to different average flooding frequencies. Trees used in the study grew out of natural regeneration in the 1920’s and 1930’s and from regeneration trials in the early 1960’s. Initial investigation of E. camaldulensis samples revealed ring-like features that were able to be traced on samples by eye. Microscopic investigation showed that there existed considerable variations in the properties of individual rings at different positions on the samples, and that the boundaries between rings were often indistinct
