    No full text
Speakers: Dr Sayjda Talib (lead author), Teaching Fellow, Lancaster University with Dr Stacey Noble Senior Teaching Associate, Lancaster University Talib and Noble (2018) Abstract - “This paper details the experiences of embedding bespoke employability modules within the accounting and finance curriculum at Lancaster Unviersity and also provides a take on the role of the Academic Employability Champion, a new departmental ‘curriculum facing’ post for academic staff. The paper begins by outlining the pedagogical gaps faced by the department with increasing anecdotal employer feedback that graduates were not ‘desk ready’. The paper then outlines the consultation process with the faculty/central careers team and the initial provision of AcF.150 and AcF.350, the employability modules. Changes to the module in the five years which it has been operational include greater involvement with employers, intensive student conferences and workshops, integration of cutting edge technology (e.g. video interview simulations and business games). The paper ends with a discussion on the feedback from students, staff and employers and the potential applicability of the bespoke modules in other Higher Education (HE) institutions

    No full text
This study aims to explore the application of the repetitive language style found in the novel Lieutenant Adnan by Abdul Latip Talib. The first objective of this study is to identify the application of repetition language style which includes six different types namely anaphora, epiphora, simplok, response, woordopname and parallelism. The second is to identify the application of the most dominant repetitive language style found in the text of this novel. The research methodology involves qualitative research based on text analysis of Lieutenant Adnan's novel by Abdul Latip Talib. This study uses Stylistic Theory based on the views of J.J Webber (1989). The analysis of this study also involves close and careful reading of each word, phrase and sentence to identify the application of repetitive language style found in the text of this novel. The results of the study found that the application of repetitive language style consists of anaphora, epiphora, simplok, response, woordopname and parallelism. The analysis found that the author uses this repetitive language style to emphasize and develop ideas in his writing sentences. In addition, the author of this novel likes to use the language style of anaphora repetition in his writing. The impact is that the application of language style elements in the writing of a novel text is seen to be able to act as an intermediary between the author and the reader to convey thoughts or ideas to be perceived and appreciated more easily and meaningfully in addition to enriching the aesthetic value of language in the writing of a novel text

It is not very often that one comes across a book about museums in Malaysia. Neither can one easily find such a book that has its contents closely intertwined with the history and culture of the country. This is because an attempt to link the museums with history and heritage is indeed full of complexities as the author has tried to show. The book nonetheless shows that such task is possible. In fact, for college students, the book is quite helpful in providing useful historical information of Malaysia's past. From the narratives of the book, readers will certainly be made aware about the truth of the saying that Malaysia is unique in every sense of the word. As a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country, it is unique in its style of political pragmatism as seen from the unconventional way its political elites try to manage a plural society that is still struggling to become a viable and integrated nation. Through his book, Museums, History and Culture in Malaysia, the author Abu Talib Ahmad has painstakingly demonstrated how museums in Malaysia try to cope with the diverse and pluralistic views of the country's histor

The book Nahj al-Balagha is a collection of sermons, letters, adages, commandments, and etiquettes, divided into 238 sermons, 79 treatises, and 489 sayings. People following the Shiite sect regard it as a crucial text for teaching and learning, and they attribute it to Ali Ibn Abi Talib. Yet, the book’s real author is still disputed among Sharia scholars. While some attribute it to Ali Ibn Abi Talib, others claim that al-Sharif al-Radi is the book’s actual author, whereas another group attribute it to al-Sharif al-Murtada. This study employs a comprehensive approach to investigate and analyze the book’s authorship. It involves a detailed literary and historical analysis, examining primary sources, scholarly works, and critical literature to explore the real author of the text. It compares the content of the book with other authenticated works belonging to the potential authors in order to identify similarities and differences. By evaluating the style, language, and themes of Nahj al-Balagha, as well as reviewing historical documents and manuscripts, the study aims to trace the text’s origins and transmissions. In doing so, it addresses the significant critiques and controversies surrounding the text, enhancing our understanding of its historical and literary significance. The study further contributes to the ongoing discourse on the book’s authorship, providing more clarity on the topic and promoting additional scholarly research
