Optimization of systemic stability of directed network using genetic algorithm

    No full text
Flow dynamics in directed network can lead to cascade failures from node and link removal, and this is used as a paradigm for systemic risks in financial systems where the flow is a money flow. In order to reduce systemic risk, we analyze the network topology and find ways of rewiring to ensure that the time for the first node failure can be maximized. The analysis is numerical using genetic algorithm to evolve a network by rewiring towards one with higher systemic stability. The results show that a network can become more systemic stable if the incoming flow of all the nodes becomes more similar to that of the outgoing flow. For financial network, the way to reduce the risk of cascade bankruptcies is to share the systemic risk in the form of the fluctuation of capital value transfer by all banks. Our simple model of directed network shows that one way to improve the systemic stability of a network is to rewire it towards a perfect Watts-Strogatz network.</p

We conducted a systematic literature review to obtain risk population-based fungal disease incidence or prevalence data from China. Data were categorized by risk factors and extrapolated by using most recent demographic figures. A total of 71,316,101 cases (5.0% of the population) were attributed to 12 risk factors and 17 fungal diseases. Excluding recurrent Candida vaginitis (4,057/100,000 women) and onychomycosis (2,600/100,000 persons), aspergillosis (317/100,000 persons) was the most common problem; prevalence exceeded that in most other countries. Cryptococcal meningitis, an opportunistic infection, occurs in immunocompetent persons almost twice as often as AIDS. The pattern of fungal infections also varies geographically; Talaromyces marneffei is distributed mainly in the Pearl River Basin, and the Yangtze River bears the greatest histoplasmosis burden. New host populations, new endemic patterns, and high fungal burdens in China, which caused a huge impact on public health, underscore the urgent need for building diagnostic and therapeutic capacity

...The board game involves four kinds of cards that indicate matters of fate, opportunities, scenarios and challenges, all of which are related to elderly people’s daily lives. The ‘Farmer’s Life’ has been revised to a third edition, and has been published and tested on various public or industry-related platforms for the elderly.

Acute myeloid leukaemia with giant granules: association with t(10;11)(p13;q14) and disseminated intravascular coagulation

A 16-year-old Chinese girl presented with AML-M5a. A bone marrow examination showed that the myeloblasts which were overwhelming the marrow contained giant granules (pseudo-Chediak-Higashi anomaly). Her karyotype showed a rare translocation t(10; 11)(p13; q14). Molecular delineation of the translocation breakpoints was not possible. Nonetheless, this case further demonstrates the morphological and phenotypic heterogeneity of acute leukaemia with this translocation. In this girl it was associated with disseminated intravascular coagulation

Mergers & Acquisitions research: A bibliometric study of top strategy journals, 2000 - 2009

Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) are important modes through which firms undertake their domestic and international strategies. This bibliometric review examines the extant research on M&As in the top five strategic management journals during a ten years period ? from 2000 to 2009. The 90 articles identified in these top journals denote an eclectic theoretical focus with the prevalence of four theories ? resource-based view, transaction costs, agency theory and institutional theory. We present a brief analysis of the key issues in M&A research, as well as the samples and theories more commonly used. We conclude by presenting a broad discussion comprising the methods used, the research questions investigated, the type of articles, as well as limitations and avenues for future enquiry.mergers & acquisitions; strategic management journals, bibliometric study
