[[abstract]]The purpose of this study was to make comparisons on the expressiveness of the drawing abilities which include subject expression and aesthetic judgments between the aboriginal adolescence and the Han adolescence by conducting drawing ability test , an aptitude test of art , interviews and questionnaires on the seventh-grade students of the aboriginal adolescence and the Han adolescence from Lai-Yi Senior High School and Lin-Lo Junior High School in Ping-Tung County . The main findings of this study are listed below: Ⅰ. The aspect of expressiveness of drawing abilities: 1. On the whole the aboriginal adolescence show better drawing abilities in their works than the Hans . 2. Drawing abilities vary from the difference of ethnic background between the aboriginals and the Hans . 3. The aboriginal adolescence prefer to emerge their cultural characteristics into their works , presenting symbolic signs and living experiences of traditional culture , influenced by their ethnic customs . 4. Aboriginal adolescence take a greater attitude of identity than the Hans in showing their drawing abilities . Ⅱ. The aspect of aesthetic judgments: 1. The numbers of students of the aboriginals and the Hans , holding positive and negative attitude of identity equilibrate in terms of the ability of self-aesthetic expression . 2. There is no difference between the aboriginals and Hans in their preference of colors . Among the most frequently adopted colors , blue , green , red , and black are commonly and simultaneously used by both . 3. Regarding the origin of sketch-orientation , it is evident that the stimulation of animated image on the Internet has a great impact on the image culture of the Hans adolescence , while the aboriginals adolescence still remain dependent on static books, and painting for their sketch origin . 4. Artistically , there is no ethnic bias on the effect of art from ethnic difference . 5. In the ability of aesthetic judgments , there is no obvious difference between the aboriginals and the Hans .

Direct shoot regeneration via organogenesis in chiehqua (Benincasa hispida Cogn. var. Chieh-qua How)

A plant regeneration system was established from cotyledon explants of chieh-qua (Benincasa hispida Cogn. var. Chieh-qua How). To obtain optimal conditions of adventitious shoot induction, the cotyledon explants were excised from seedlings of different genotypes as well as seed germination conditions, and then cultured on media containing different concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA)/1-naphthaleneactic acid (NAA). Among the eight genotypes, the highest rate of shoot regeneration was obtained from the cotyledons of inbred line A39. The adaxial portion of cotyledons of seedlings cultured for 3 days in darkness and 1 day in light was the appropriate explants for adventitious shoot organogenesis. The highest frequency of adventitious shoot organogenesis (52.2%) and mean number of shoots per explant (4.2) were achieved on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 6 mg l-1 6-BA and 0.2 mg l-1 NAA. Adventitious shoots were observed to regenerate directly from cotyledons rather than from calli. A medium supplemented with AgNO3 was not beneficial for shoot induction. Adventitious shoots were elongated in MS medium supplemented with 3 mg l-1 6-BA and 0.2 mg l-1 NAA. Elongated shoots were rooted in ½ MS medium with 0.5 mg l-1 indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Regenerated plantlets were transferred to a greenhouse for about 1 month, and subsequently transplanted into an open field. Keywords: Benincasa hispida, chieh-qua, adventitious shoot, genotypes, plant regeneration

What is an Author? Taking Confucius for an Example

The proposed study is a case study of the author function by examining a famed “author” -Confucius. Preliminary results are presented of an analysis based on “The Hereditary House of Confucius” in The Records of the Grand Historian by Sima Qian that paints a picture of Confucius as an author, as conceived in the 2nd century BCE (the Former Han dynasty). The study uses the method of qualitative content analysis to answer the following research questions: (1) What types of authorship is Confucius said to have performed according to his biography by Sima Qian? (2) What are the works related to Confucius? (3) What does each type of authorship entail? To answer these questions, a three-stage process is conducted to analyze the text: First, isolation of useful segments; then, identification and coding of relevant works mentioned in the biography; and finally, specification and analysis of the outcomes. Tentatively, the analysis has identified at least three types of authorship: writer, editor, and transmitter. As part of a larger study to examine the images of Confucius as an author over time, the primary purpose of the research reported here is to gain more understanding of the author function in Chinese culture. This study’s findings are undoubtedly important for expanding research on authorship in KO. Eventually such research will lead to improved KO system design, especially in the area of author data
