Paraxya gen. nov. Type species: Paraxya hui sp. nov. (Figs. 3–5) Diagnosis: The new genus is allied to Xya Latreille. 1809 (fig.1), but differs from latter by metatibia without swimming plates. The new genus is also allied to Burmadactylus Heads, 2009 (lacking swimming plates at metatibia, fig. 2) and differs from latter by metatarsus absent and hindwing present, surpassing the end of abdomen distinctly (figs. 3–5). Etymology: The new genus is name for the Xya Latreille. 1809, Para - = allied, Paraxya showing a sister genus of Xya Latreille, 1809 in Latin. Discussion. The hindwing of Burmadactylus grimaldii Heads, 2009 is absent, but it may be present, invisible, covered by tegmen, because the degradation of tegmen and hindwing generally may be in sync.Published as part of Cao, Cheng-Quan, Chen, Shen-Zhi & Yin, Zhan, 2019, A new genus and a new species of pygmy mole cricket in Cretaceous amber from Burma (Orthoptera: Tridactylidae), pp. 193-195 in Zootaxa 4559 (1) on page 194, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4559.1.12, http://zenodo.org/record/258518

Paraxya hui sp. nov. (Figs. 3–5) Holotype: Adult male, Hukang Valley, Kachin State, Northern Myanmar, Mid Cretaceous, about 100 million years, leg. Zheng-Kun Hu, 2018-11-23. Male Body 2.90 mm long measured from the head to the abdominal apex; the specimen in Cretaceous amber (fig. 3). Head Vertex somewhat inflated anteriorly; frons broadly curved. Antennae filiform, with ten articles, length of apical segment 3.0 times width. Eyes very large and circular. (figs. 4a, 5a). Thorax Pronotum large, shield-like, extending posteriorly to entirely cover the mesonotum. Tegmina strongly sclerotized. Hindwing long, surpassing over the end of abdomen distinctly (figs 4b, 5b). Profemur robust, apical part narrower, with a strongly concave ventral surface and very long external ventral setae; protibia broad, strongly inflated distally with a dense covering of strong setae; basitarsus short, basal half part wider; apical tarsomere elongate, slightly curved distally; pretarsus with two prominent ungues. Mesofemur markedly longer and wider than the profemur. mesotibia similar in shape to the protibia but more pointed apically; mesotarsus almost identical to the protarsus, very long, about twice as long as the protarsus. Metathoracic leg saltatorial; metafemur very large, as long as the abdomen and greatly inflated along its entire length, with prominent dorsal carina; external genicular lobe prominent, smooth; metatibia almost as long as metafemur, very slender, subquadrate in section, without swimming plates and spines on the dorsal margins, with a pale ring at base; metatarsus invisible; apical spurs long, about twice as long as the subapical spurs (Figs 4c, 5c). Abdomen Terga and sterna covered by hind leg, invisible, cercus with 4 particularly long hairs. Etymology: The new species is derived from Mr. Zheng-Kun Hu for his type specimen.Published as part of Cao, Cheng-Quan, Chen, Shen-Zhi & Yin, Zhan, 2019, A new genus and a new species of pygmy mole cricket in Cretaceous amber from Burma (Orthoptera: Tridactylidae), pp. 193-195 in Zootaxa 4559 (1) on page 195, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4559.1.12, http://zenodo.org/record/258518

Content Analysis of Media Reported American Baseball Player Wei-Yin Chen Shaping Sports Culture

    No full text
[[abstract]]This study is a media content analysis of Taiwanese baseball player Wei-Yin Chen who plays in the United States. His outstanding performance has played a role in the shaping of the cultural movement of baseball between Taiwan and the United States. Content from the United Daily News Network, Liberty Times and Apple Daily newspapers were consulted using the search term: "Wei-Yin Chen" during the post two-week periods of Chen’s first contract, first win, and second contract. A total of 444 news reports were found. The construction of six categories from literature review as points of analysis represented the basis for a semi-structured coding. First, individual identity value is driven by high salary of contract and Wei-Yin Chen’s charisma. Second, Wei-Yin Chen’s role on the team was recognized for his value and contribution to the team efforts with other players to produce the team's support and loyalty of fans. Third, concerning Taiwan's professional baseball and baseball operation managers’ reflection, in addition to nurture good players, the focus was on the cultivation of talent, senior baseball player's career development and players’ health care. Fourth, an economic ripple effect of Wei-Yin Chen on the sports industry was primarily from Chen’s media exposure and his high salary contract with MLB (Major League Baseball). Fifth, a social impact was on children who like to play baseball and see the opportunities to pursue their success in the sport. Sixth, after the globalization of value of Wei-Yin Chen to international sport, it is through the effects of the media to produce the impact of glocalization on Taiwanese sports culture

Elite athletes refine their internal clocks: a bayesian analysis

    No full text
This paper carries out a full Bayesian analysis for a data set examined in Chen & Cesari (2015). These data were collected for assessing people's ability in evaluating short intervals of time. Chen & Cesari (2015) showed evidence of the existence of two independent internal clocks for evaluating time intervals below and above the second. We re-examine here, the same question by performing a complete statistical Bayesian analysis of the data. The Bayesian approach can be used to analyze these data thanks to the specific trial design. Data were obtained from evaluation of time ranges from two groups of individuals. More specifically, information gathered from a non-trained group (considered as baseline) allowed us to build a prior distribution for the parameter(s) of interest, and data from the trained group determined the likelihood function. This paper's main goals are (i) showing how the Bayesian inferential method can be used in statistical analyses and (ii) showing that the Bayesian methodology gives additional support to the findings presented in Chen & Cesari (2015) regarding the existence of two internal clocks in assessing duration of time intervals
