The new CEN/TS 19100: Design of glass structures

    No full text
Since the beginning of 2021, CEN/TS 19100 Design of Glass Structures has been available in its first three parts. The fourth part is expected soon. This Technical Specification of the European standards organisation CEN is as a pre-standard of a corresponding future Eurocode. These documents constitute the first ever comprehensive design code for the entire structural glass engineering field on the European market for the first time. In addition to a clear outline, the Technical Specification has been drafted to be compatible with EN 1990 “Basis of Design” and to address glass-specific design matters, particularly related to robustness and redundancy. Although the standard still has the status of a CEN/TS, thereby allowing the European nations the option of whether to introduce it, either in full or in parts, it already contains national openings through which the European countries can adapt the design results to their own safety level by National Determined Parameters (NDPs). Such an approach already anticipates the future Eurocode, which is expected to be published as EN 19100—Design of Glass Structures. This article provides some context on the history and concept behind the new documents and gives an overview of the design rules and the corresponding technical background of the different parts of CEN/TS 19100.Applied MechanicsArchitectural Technolog

A self-supervised temporal temperature prediction method based on dilated contrastive learning

    No full text
Due to the scarcity of the labeled data, traditional supervised learning methods have a limited application scope, which caused the supervised-based model performance will greatly be decreased. In this paper, we propose a promising model based on self-supervised learning. To update the weight and the contrastive relation in the features, a new self-supervised loss, is introduced. First, the convolution neural network is used in the proposed network to extract the deep feature in the first processing. Second, the self-supervised long–short time memory (LSTM) sequential is constructed for further deal. At last, the teacher net and student net have coordinately fine-tuned the credibility of the temperature prediction. By the experimental comparison, our proposed CNN-SSDLSTM is competitive with other supervised and semi-supervised methods. The evaluation experiments achieve state-of-the-art performance in aluminum electrolysis temperature prediction applications

CEN Language: The Language for Everything (LoE)

    No full text
**New Version Uploaded with the hand-drawn designs made using software and co-author info** CEN Language is a range of languages, including mathematical functions, equations, new symbols, CEN Programming Language (CEN PL) for scientific computing and developing the TOE, software programs, and others. CEN Language is the Entanglement of all possible languages, including natural languages, constructed languages (conlangs), scientific languages (such as mathematical languages and others), programming languages, and many others. Also known as the Collective Language, CEN Language is the Language for Everything (LoE) because CEN is everything that really exists as stated in the Theory of Everything (TOE) and any language is a manifestation of CEN -- a form or state of cen (cenform/censtate). CEN Language is the Universal Language that the Theory of Everything is written in. So, it is basically LoE, which is the Language for the TOE in CENProject. CEN Language is a meta-language. All fields, disciplines, professions, and areas of human endeavor have their language (lingo). As a meta-language, CEN is a language of languages and is used to study the all languages and their elements, including, their structure, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and all other possible aspects of a language. All these are regarded as forms or states of consciousness-energy in CEN Language. In using CEN Language to study any field or discipline, X, such field/discipline is regarded as a language. This is the X-as-a-Language (XaaL) model, a form of consciousness-energy. CEN Language studies any form/body of knowledge using the XaaL model

[[alternative]]Research on Teachers Designing Integrated Curriculum at an Elementary School

    No full text
[[abstract]]Abstract The goal of this research is to explore how teachers design integrated curriculum and factors that influence teachers’ curriculum design. Based on literature review, the author first clarified the conceptual structure of curriculum integration, the characteristics and procedure of designing integrated curriculum and then, the author examined the affecting factors related to teachers' design of integrated curriculum through qualitative research methods. Taking two 6th grade teachers as research subjects and applying the method of interview mainly, supported with classroom observations and document analysis, the author collected evidences about the issues involved in the design of integrated curriculum. The research findings include: (1) The administrators of target elementary school played supportive role in helping teachers to work on integrated curriculum design. But the assisted measures, the related concepts and information provided for teachers to reflect upon their curriculum design were not sufficient. (2) Both participant teachers adopted thematic integrated curriculum design model, but there were different integrated styles in topics and contexts selections. The practice of designing integrated curriculum helps teachers not only to make better instructional plans and take hold of designed schedules, but also to reflect and assess their own integrated curriculum programs. However, there were needs to improve the interactions and cooperations between home-room teachers and subject teachers. (3) Teacher’s willingness was the core factor that influenced teachers’ involvement in curriculum design. Also, insufficient time, the achievement of students, were other key factors. However, clarifying the concepts of curriculum integration and exchange ideas of curriculum design would help teachers’ design and practice of integrated curriculum. According to the research outcomes, the author provides the following suggestions: (1) First, schools should create elastic space for teachers to perform their autonomy in curriculum and instruction, should arrange time for curriculum discussions between home-room and subject teachers, and should build evaluative mechanism for teachers to reflect and assess their integrated curriculum programs. (2) In aspect of promoting teachers' ability in designing integrated curriculum, teachers need to understand curriculum integration better, and select appropriate integration model concerning instructional goals with continuity, proper sequence and appropriate multiple assessment approaches. Besides, before and in the practice of integrated curriculum programs, teachers should communicate with parents more frequently, enhance cooperations between parents and teachers, as well as home-room teachers and subject teachers. (3) In the aspect of future research, there are needs to have further studies in student learning condition in integrated curriculum, teacher’s implementation of integrated curriculum, various models of curriculum integration, and cooperations between different subject teachers.

What is the Mass of α Cen B b?

We investigate the possibility of constraining the sin i degeneracy of α Cen B b—with orbital period P = 3.24 days; a = 0.042 AU; m sin i = 1.1 M_⊕—to estimate the true mass of the newly reported terrestrial exoplanet in the nearest stellar system to our Sun. We present detailed numerical simulations of the dynamical stability of the exoplanet in the α Cen AB binary system for a range of initial inclinations, eccentricities, and semimajor axes. The system represents a benchmark case for the interplay of the Kozai mechanism with general relativistic and tidal forces. From our simulations, there is only a small boundary in initial inclinations and initial semimajor axes which result in the migration via the Kozai mechanism of α Cen B b to its present location. Inside this boundary, the planet orbit is stable for up to 1 Gyr against the Kozai mechanism, and outside this boundary the planet collides with α Cen B or is ejected. In our three simulations where the planet migrates in toward the star via the Kozai mechanism, the final inclination is 46°–53° relative to the AB orbital plane, lower than the initial inclination of 75° in each case. We discuss inclination constraints from the formation of α Cen B b in situ at its present location, migration in a proto-planetary disk, or migration in resonance with additional planets. We conclude that α Cen B b probably has a mass of less than 2.7 M_⊕, implying a likely terrestrial composition warranting future confirmation
