In the story Luo Dadou’s life (Luo Dadou de yisheng 罗大斗的一生), Lu Ling 路翎 (1923-1994) gives shape to the deepness of human psyche and stresses the suffering of the Self of his age by giving a brilliant emphasis to human individuality. The author succeeds in doing so by creating an amazing psychological characterization of the main character, both by means of words and by means of grammatical structures. By applying Denton’s categories for the study of the Self in modern Chinese literature, I analysed Lu Ling’s short story from the Freudian and Kleinian psychodynamic perspective, so to demonstrate how Lu Ling enters his characters’ minds and wonderfully recreates the psychological dynamics inside and between them
Re-lift enhanced positive output superlift luo converter
This project aims to design and build controllers to regulate the output voltage of the Re-lift enhanced positive super lift Luo converter and Cuk converter. In this report, it will discuss and present the theoretical knowledge, circuitry designs, implementation and control of the re-lift enhanced Luo converter. A hysteresis sliding mode current controller was used to control the output voltage of the converter. The controller was designed to track the voltage change and interference load test requirements to determine the robustness. Experimental results will be presented to verify that these requirements were achieved. At the same time, it will also present the simulation of the Cuk converter with adaptive current mode controller.Bachelor of Engineerin
Design of split-inductors applied in positive output super lift luo-converters
As the demand of the modern electronic devices and appliances are getting higher, the role of the converters with higher output and efficiency become wider for different industries. It has been the role of engineers to explore the converter topology to provide higher output voltage in simple design with less cost. There are quite a number of different ways of lifting output voltage in converter topology.The method that the author will be introducing is called “Split- Inductors Method”, where the
output voltage is totally dependent on the number of inductors used in the converter design. The

Control of a positive output Luo-converter
As the world fossil fuel reserve decreases, there has been an increase in the usage of renewable energy as an alternative source for powering up electronic devices. Since renewable energy sources generate relatively low voltages and also vary widely in magnitude. This resulted in a greater demand for more advanced DC/DC converters such as the Luo-Converter to step up the output voltage to a higher gain. These DC/DC converters are capable of converting the input voltage to a greater output voltage with higher energy density and power efficiency. This report represents the circuit design, implementation and experimental results of an Elementary Positive Output Luo-Converter to achieve a higher output voltage. An Output Feedback Controller and a Sliding-mode Controller are implemented separately to test their efficiency and performance in maintaining the output voltage of the converter and making the overall system more sustainable to interference load change. This report will present and discuss the experimental results of both open-loop and closed-loop test to show the effectiveness of the overall system under various operating parameters.Bachelor of Engineerin

Output control of a super lift re-lift Luo dc-dc converter
This report describes the design and implementation on control of a single-phase inverter and a super lift re-lift Luo converter. It will focus more on the super lift re-lift Luo converter which is implemented by applying voltage lift technique to the circuit. A super lift re-lift Luo converter is a DC-DC boost converter which allow the output voltage to increase gradually in a geometric progression instead of in an arithmetic faction. Besides, a voltage-mode controller is built to regulate the output voltage of the converter. The simulation result on the single-phase inverter is presented to illustrate the open-loop feature. Thirty-two Manifestations of Guanyin: Manifestations of Mind in Chan Meditation
242 pagesThis thesis investigates the Thirty-two Manifestations of Guanyin (the Chinese name for Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara), a painting theme popularly copied by Chinese artists from the Ming dynasty (1358–1644). Focusing on the late Ming professional painter Miss Qiu’s (仇氏 Qiu shi, active ca. 1565–1585) album at the Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University, this thesis attempts to explicate the meaning and role of Guanyin in artistic creations related to meditation in the tradition of Chan Buddhism. The thesis argues that the Guanyin album provides a new facet of interpreting Guanyin beyond what has traditionally been considered the bodhisattva’s messianic and feminine ideals. Rather, the imagery of Guanyin in the album symbolizes the optimization of Mind-cultivation, an interpretation resulting from the Chan-Huayan synthesis amidst Song to Ming Buddhist environments.In addition to the introduction and conclusion, which contextualize the analysis of the Guanyin album in scholarship and proposes future research directions, the thesis contains four chapters. The first chapter traces the possible original creators of the album from historical records: Li Gonglin and Zhongfeng Mingben. This act of historical tracing discusses the plausibility of these two possibilities and speculates the album’s original creator as Li Gonglin, whose Guanyin faith in the Northern Song Chan environment aligns well with the album. The second chapter delves into the contexts in which the album was reproduced – the late Ming Buddhist revival and the pro-Chan literati culture. This chapter discusses Miss Qiu’s potential engagement in the Buddhist lay movement due to her close association with lay Buddhists, including her patrons and collaborators. This chapter then examines the album’s association with Chan Buddhism through the references to Chan doctrines. The third chapter explores the possible scriptural bases of Guanyin’s manifestations in the album – the Lotus Sūtra, the Śūraṅgama Sūtra, and the Avataṃsaka Sūtra. An emphasis is put on the association between the album and the Śūraṅgama Sūtra to explain Guanyin’s connection with meditation in the Chan tradition. Finally, the fourth chapter analyzes the album’s iconographies in comparison with traditional representations and the Gaṇḍavyūha (Sudhana’s Pilgrimage) of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra in both visual and doctrinal aspects. My investigation of the Guanyin album marks the synthesis of Chan and Huayan teachings in the formation of the Guanyin faith from the Song to Ming dynasties, which puts forth an understanding of Guanyin as the embodiment of the full development of Mind in meditation
