Gene loss and lineage specific restriction-modification systems associated with niche differentiation in the Campylobacter jejuni Sequence Type 403 clonal complex
Get PDFCampylobacter jejuni is a highly diverse species of bacteria commonly associated with infectious intestinal disease of humans and zoonotic carriage in poultry, cattle, pigs, and other animals. The species contains a large number of distinct clonal complexes that vary from host generalist lineages commonly found in poultry, livestock, and human disease cases to host-adapted specialized lineages primarily associated with livestock or poultry. Here, we present novel data on the ST403 clonal complex of C. jejuni, a lineage that has not been reported in avian hosts. Our data show that the lineage exhibits a distinctive pattern of intralineage recombination that is accompanied by the presence of lineage-specific restriction-modification systems. Furthermore, we show that the ST403 complex has undergone gene decay at a number of loci. Our data provide a putative link between the lack of association with avian hosts of C. jejuni ST403 and both gene gain and gene loss through nonsense mutations in coding sequences of genes, resulting in pseudogene formation

The Distribution and Characteristics of Endogenous Cardiac Stem Cells in All Four Chambers of the Adult Human Heart
Get PDFThe human myocardium harbours resident multi-potent cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs). We investigated the distribution, properties, differentiation potential and effect of LV function on CPCs in all chambers of the human heart.
Biopsies from all chambers of the heart from the same patient with good (EF>45; n=5) and impaired LV function (EF<45; n=5) was analysed for c-kitpos and MDR-1pos CPCs. CPCs were isolated using MACS from ten patients (Good and Impaired LV, n=5/group) and was characterised.
CPCs were identified in all chambers of the heart in both groups. The RA from good LV group had significantly (p<0.05) less c-kitpos (6± 0CPCs/mm2) and MDR-1pos CPCs (5± 1 CPCs/mm2). In the impaired LV group, the LV (38± 2 CPCs /mm2) had significantly more c-kitpos CPCs. Overall, the impaired LV group had significantly (p<0.05) more c-kitpos (32± 1CPCs /mm2) and MDR-1pos (47± 1 CPCs /mm2). Irrespective of LV function both c-kitpos and MDR-1pos CPCs were significantly higher (p<0.05) in ventricle than atria.
CPCs from the LV (80±2%) are significantly (p<0.05) more proliferative than RV (64±4%) and RA (64±6%) in good and impaired LV group, respectively. Regardless of LV function the atria and ventricle showed no difference in proliferation. Cardiosphereogenesis was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the good LV group. Irrespective of the LV function, cardiosphereogenesis, α-sarcomeric actin and calponin expression were significantly increased (p<0.05) in the LV chamber. In impaired LV group, the LV showed significant (p<0.05) expression for Nkx2.5. Overall, the cardiomyogenic and calponin expression were significantly (p<0.05) increased in impaired LV patients. The vWF expression was significantly (p<0.05) increased in LA and the atria of the good LV group.
In conclusion, there is a variation in the distribution, stem cell properties and differentiation potential of CPCs across all 4 chambers of the human heart. These variations are also affected by the LV function.Open Acces

No full textMaintenance and Update Frequency: notPlannedStatement: This South Georgina Basin Traverses Sandover, Marqua (P200080), gravity point data contains ground gravity point data for the South Georgina Basin Traverses Sandover, Marqua (P200080) survey acquired for Haines Surveys Pty Ltd. This dataset contains a total of 654 point data values. The data is located in NT and were acquired in 2000. The point located data were collected in traverses layout at a station spacing between 500 and 1000 metres.
Terrain corrections were calculated using the INTREPID Geophysics software package. The processed data are checked by GA geophysicists using standard methods for assessing quality to ensure that the final data are fit-for-purpose.
All data are provided in EPSG:4283 coordinates, Australian Height Datum (AHD) and gravity datum of AAGD07. The units are degrees, meters, and micrometres per second squared, respectively.

No full textMaintenance and Update Frequency: asNeededStatement: Since 1956 the Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR) has been making reconnaissance geological and geophysical investigations of the Georgina Basin in Queensland and the Northern Territory. As part of this programme, the BMR Seismic Party No. 1 carried out setstic surreys in the south-eastern part of the basin between the Toko Syncline and Canary in 1963 (Robertson, 1965) and 1964 (Jones, 1965). Prior to completion of the latter survey it was decided to follow it with a seismic reconnaissance survey to investigate the general configuration of the basin over the large
area of outcropping Lower Palaeozoic sediments that occur in the southern part of the Georgina Basin in the region of the Northern Territory - Queensland border. This survey was originally scheduled to commence in September 1964
and to continue throughout 1965 with a break in the field season during the summer months from December to March. It was planned to commence the survey with a programme of experimental work designed to develop a suitable technique for reconnaissance seismic work on the Lower Palaeozoic formations, which cover a very extensive area.
Completion of the survey in the south-eastern Georgina Basin in 1964 was delayed until late in October, with the result that only about four weeks remained in the 1964 field season for work on the Lower Palaeozoic areas. This time was devot-ed to experimental work to develop a suitable shooting technique, on the understanding that the testing programme would, if necessary, be continued at the beginning of the 1965 field season. At the request of the BMR, the author, geophysicist from the Institut Francais du Petrole spent two weeks with the party in November to advise on the conduct of the experimental programme.In November 1964, the Bureau of Mineral Resources made a brief experimental seismic survey near Cockroach Wdterhole in the centre of the Tobermory 1:250,000 map area, Northern Territory. This survey was designed as part of a more extensive reconnaissance seismic survey to be made in 1964 and 1965 on areas of outcropping Lower Palaeozoic rocks in the southern part of the Georgina Basln. In this initial part of the survey a shortial profile was shot using a simple recording technique and noise tests and tests of various shot and geophone arrangements were carried out. It was established that, despite diffibult drilling conditions and the prevalence of random, high frequency noise, a suitable seismic technique for reconnaissance in this area, which it was hoped was representative of a very extensive region, could be developed

Founder and director of the Mountain Youth Jamboree, Hubert H. Hayes (1901-1964) auditioned and directed youth to perform in folk dance, music, and folk and ballad singing. The jamboree was held in the Asheville City Auditorium (now known as Thomas Wolfe Auditorium) from 1948 to 1973, and Hayes’ wife, Leona Trantham Hayes (1913-1989) continued to direct the program after his death in 1964.
