Complex coacervates based on recombinant mussel adhesive proteins: their characterization and applications
No full textComplex coacervates are a dense liquid phase of oppositely charged polyions formed by the associative separation of a mixture of polyions. Coacervates have been widely employed in many fields including the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries due to their intriguing interfacial and bulk material properties. More recently, attempts to develop an effective underwater adhesive have been made using complex coacervates that are based on recombinant mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs) due to the water immiscibility of complex coacervates and the adhesiveness of MAPs. MAP-based complex coacervates contribute to our understanding of the physical nature of complex coacervates and they provide a promising alternative to conventional invasive surgical repairs. Stem cell-loaded adhesive immiscible liquid for regeneration of myocardial infarction
No full textMyocardial infarction (MI) causes serious loss of cardiac muscle and dysfunction. To restore MI, exogenous stem cells should be efficiently delivered. However, due to severe physical and physiological cardiac environment, recent strategies have faced challenges, including low cell persistence, low integration, and delayed therapeutic effects. Herein, we proposed mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapeutic platform using adhesive protein-based immiscible condensed liquid system (APICLS) derived from bioengineered mussel adhesive protein (MAP). With high encapsulation efficiency and survival rate of encapsulated MSCs, APICLS was successfully grafted by intramyocardial injection and distributed throughout the scarred myocardium. Its underwater adhesiveness and biocompatibility fostered integration with damaged tissue, resulting in high cell persistence and maximized paracrine effects. Bioactive molecules released from APICLS with MSCs induced angiogenesis and cardioprotection, delayed cardiac remodeling, reduced fibrosis, and recovered contractive force. Thus, our proposed strategy represents an innovative approach for recovering infarcted cardiac tissues with damaged structural and contractive function.11Nsciescopu
Improved magnetic relaxivity via hierarchical surface structure of dysprosium-engineered superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles in ultra-high magnetic field
No full textTo date, it is unknown whether the combination of Dy ions and superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO: Fe3O4) NPs can offer improved performance in UHF-MRI. In this work, we provide a paradigm of hierarchical surface-structured (His) DyxFe3-xO4 NPs as T-2 MRI nanoprobes at UHF (9.4T). We found that His-DyxFe3-xO4 NPs (x = 0.2) possess a higher transverse relaxivity than unmodified His-SPIO NPs and a significantly enhanced r(2)/r(1) ratio (up to10.4 times higher) than those of reported Dy-based T-2 MRI probes at 9.4 T. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effects of surface design of DyxFe3-xO4 NPs on their magnetic relaxivity and in vivo performance at UHF. The markedly enhanced r(2)/r(1) of His-DyxFe3-xO4 NPs (x = 0.2) at 9.4 T is mainly attributed to decreased r(1) relaxivity owing to the surface design and the possible disturbance of the Dy-Fe superexchange interaction. This work could provide an insightful strategy for the design of lanthanide-doped magnetic nanosystems as potential T-2 MRI nanoprobes in UHF. (A) study on the authorial double desire in Lee, Tae Joon&apos;s novel
No full text본 논문은 이태준의 전 문학사와 해방 이후의 행적을 작가적 욕망의 내러티브 로 풀어내어 이태준 문학의 이중성 구조를 해명하고, 해방 이후의 행적을 작품에 투사된 일련의 작가적 욕망의 전치 과정 속에서 해명하려는 목적에서 출발하였다.
이태준의 전 문학사와 행적을 내러티브로 풀어낼 때 그 발단 은 작가의 자기중심욕망이다. 이태준의 자기 중심욕망은 작가적 주인공의 단편소설에서 누적적으로 채택되는 자신만이 보는 시점 기법과 선악 이분법의 대화 형식에서 뚜렷이 드러난다. 이태준의 자기 중심욕망이 기법으로 전치 내지 압축된 것이다. 라깡에 의하면 자신이 보기만 한다고 믿는 단계는 상상계적이고 보여짐 을 아는 단계는 상징계적인 사회적 자아의 단계이다. 이태준의 보기만 하는 시점에 대한 집착은 『해방전후』까지 이어지는 특성이다. 선악 이분법적 대화형식은 단성성의 언어로, 자신과 타인을 주체와 타자의 이분법으로 파악하는 형식인데 바흐친이 말하듯 공산주의의 언어와 동일한 것이다. 이런 작가적 중심욕망은 낭만적인 인식적 특성과 결합하여 일련의 작가적 욕망의 전치과정 을 겪게 된다. 이때 전치가 일어나는 범주는 통속적인 욕망과 민족적인 욕망의 범주이다. 즉 이 두 욕망 사이에서 이중욕망의 진자운동 또는 작가적 욕망의 변증법이 일어나는 것이다. 작가적 중심욕망이 이중욕망으로 분화되는 원인은 일제하의 민족 상징계와 일상적인 통속적 상징계의 요구 가 다르기 때문이다. 각각 민족적인 이념과 통속적인 기준에서의 우월성을 요구하는 것이다.
이태준의 선악 이분법 구도는 본질적으로 자신과 타인을 구분하는 자기 중심성에서 연유하는데 자신의 좌절된 욕망이 부정적인 무리들에 귀인(歸因)됨을 고지하는 것이며 자신의 은폐된 통속적 욕망을 투사하고 합리화할 수 있는 구도이기도 하다. 단편에서의 모리배들과의 이분법적 대결구도는 장편의 한 여성을 사이에 둔 삼각연애구도로 전환되는데 이때의 삼각연애는 통속적인 욕망게임으로서의 의미를 지닌다. 통속적인 욕망 게임에서 예정된 좌절을 경험한 주인공은 자기 중심욕망을 회복할 수 있는 민족 계몽공간으로 진입한다. 즉 이 공간은 신념의 공간이 아니라 좌절된 통속적 욕망에 대한 보상적 욕망의 공간이다. 따라서 지속적일 수 없는 이 공간에서 다시 주인공은 이중욕망의 갈등을 겪다가 현실로 귀환하게 된다. 장편에서의 이중욕망의 갈등은 이중욕망을 표상하는 두 여성과의 삼각연애로 압축 되며 단편에서의 이중욕망의 갈등은 장편보다 시기적으로 조금 뒤에 이중욕망을 표상한 두 작가적 주인공 간의 평행적 대화로 압축된다.
이태준의 이중욕망의 갈등은 민중을 대상으로 한 단편에서도 나타난다. 민중의 부정적 현실을 야기한 원인으로서의 일제하의 구조적 모순의 충위가 환기적인 데 비해 희생자 본인이나 그를 둘러싼 주변 민중군의 속악한 욕망충위는 리얼하게 묘사된다. 즉 이중욕망의 표리구조인 것이다. 또 민중에 대한 작가적 태도에 있어서도 이중욕망의 아이러니를 보인다. 민중은 애초부터 희생자의 자질을 지닌 존재들이어서 서사세계 내의 유일한 현실 인식자인 작가 자신과는 변별적으로 부정적 현실에 대하 인식이 전무한 계층으로 형상화된다. 반면 인식수준 상 먼 거리에 있는 민중에게 서정성 투사를 통한 거리무화 기법으로 동족으로서의 심리적 합일감도 동시적으로 발현한다.
이태준은 욕망을 은폐한 채 소극적인 영웅주의에 빠져 있는 자신에 대한 자의식적 반성과 함께 작가 자신과는 일정한 거리를 확보하고 있는 여성을 제이의 작가적 자아로 채택한다. 남성적 자아들이 상징계의 요구에 대한 거세공포증 으로 이중욕망의 표리성을 드러내거나 적극성을 결한 데 비해, 작가 자신의 북방문화체험과 모계가정의 체험 속에서 각인된 여성이미지는 전통적인 남녀 이분법을 초월하는 전(前) 상징계적 특성을 지닌다. 일체의 상징계적 요구 에 당당하고 행동적인 실천성을 보이는 것이다. 이들 여성 중에는 나체 의 파격성과 행동성을 드러내어 작가의 탈 상징계적 원망을 실현하는 여성도 있고 서구문화에 대한 욕망을 막힘없이 추구하여 남성적 자아의 욕망을 해원하는 여성, 그리고 남성적 자아는 욕망만 있었을 뿐인 탈가부장의 욕망을 미혼과 이혼의 과감한 결행으로 대리실현하는 여성도 있다. 이런 작가적 욕망이 실현되는 공간은 일종의 카니발 공간으로 카니발적 기벽성 을 드러내기도 하는데 그것은 곧 무소불위로 욕망을 추구하고 실현하는 데 필연적으로 뒤따르는 친일 과 엘리티즘 이다. 또 기본적으로 여성이 작가적 욕망의 실현 도구인 특성상 행동적 여성일지라도 남성의 민족적 욕망을 위한 희생자가 되기도 한다.
이 여성 공간이 이태준의 일련의 욕망의 전치과정 에서 내포하는 의미는 이 단계가 다음 단계의 남성 주인공에서 드러날 변모의 요소를 내면화하는 단계라는 것이다. 여성 공간에서 예전의 남성적 자아 유형이 보여지는 위치로 주변화되고 돈 의 공론화가 이루어진다. 남성 주인공을 통한 통속적인 욕망의 직접적인 노출이 예비되는 단계이다. 또 여성의 적극적 행동성과 어조는 해방 이후의 실제작가 속에 고스란히 담겨지게 된다.
여성 공간 속에서 남성적 자아의 중심주의가 해체된 이후 남성적 자아가 추구하던 민족적인 욕망과 여성적 자아가 추구하던 통속적인 욕망은 드디어 남성적 자아 속에서 통합된다. 『청춘무성』에서는 목사에서 재벌로 변신하여 민족 계몽사업을 하는 남성이 민족사업의 동반자인 여급출신 여성 과 법적 결혼을 하고 미국 유학을 다녀온 미모의 대학교수 와 실질적 인 결혼을 하여 이중욕망을 통합실현하게 된다. 『사상의 월야』에서도 주인공은 자신의 민족 근대화를 위한 도일이 출세하여 복수하자는 개인적 욕망에서 비롯된 사실을 굳이 은폐하지 않는다. 통속적인 욕망을 민족적인 욕망으로 덧씌우며 이제까지와는 달리 적극적으로 합리화하는 것이다.
『해방전후』의 실제작가는 전기의 남성적 자아들이 보여주던 자기 중심성에 여성적 자아 속에서 회복한 적극적 어조와 행동성을 보강하여 조선문학 건설중앙 협의회 의 책임자라는 자신의 사회적인 입지를 작가적 두 주인공 간의 이분법적 대화, 자문자답식 대화, 논리적인 설득형 문체와 적극적 어조로 방어한다. 『해방전후』의 언어는 바흐친이 말하는 단성성의 중앙집권적인 공산주의의 언어와 유사한데 사실 이 언어는 이미 앞 단계에서부터 이태준의 고유한 언어였던 것이 여성적 어조를 통해 강화된 것이다. 즉 그의 사회주의로의 선회라는 대단원 은 일련의 자기 중심욕망의 전치과정 속에서 자연스레 귀착된 것이었다.
본 연구의 의의는 이태준 소설의 이중성은 전통/근대의 이분법적 작가의식에서 연유하는 것인 아니라 민족/통속적 이중욕망에 연원한다는 사실을 입증한 점. 시점기법ㆍ대화기법으로 전치 된 자기 중심욕망 , 인물로 압축 된 이중 욕망, 이태준 아이러니 기법으로 전치 된 이중욕망, 문체로 전치 된 자기 중심욕망 등에 대한 연구를 어느 정도 이루어냈다는 점. 그리고 공산주의 수용의 가장 기본적인 동인이 자기 중심욕망에 기인한다는 사실을 작가적 욕망의 변증법 과 언어 기법 분석을 통하여 실증적으로 입증한 점에 있다.
; The purpose of this study is to define the characteristics of Lee, Tae Joon s authorial double desire which is reflected in his whole literature and to clarify the reason of his conversion to socialism after the restoration of independence.
The origin of the dialectic of desire is authorial egocentrism or self-regard. This is displaced into the point of view technique and monological dialogue . According to Lacan, if one believes that he only sees the world and not to be seen by the world, it tells that he is in the imaginative stage in which his ego can be maintained not hurted. But if one knows that he has to be seen by others, he is in the symbolic stage in which the demand of social culture surpassed the subject. Lee, Tae Joon s attachment to the eye stage lasts till the final stage of conversion to socialism. His monological dialogue equals to the dichotomy of right and wrong and ultimately to the socialism which separates the subject from the other. Being supported by romantic cognitive mode, this authorial egocentrism endures the series of displacements of desire or egocentrism.
Lee Tae Joon s double desires are the ethnical desire and the general desire and they are in discrepancy. In the colonial system, the desire to be the ethnical ego is oppressed by the colonial power and the desire to be the rich, powerful and important being is oppressed by ethnical social culture. Being an orphan at the age of nine, Lee Tae Joon was in socio-economically low status. These two situation conditions the dialectical structure of his narratives.
In his short stories the authorial heroes try to conceal their general desire to be the powerful one and to project their surpassed desire to the negative persons or to entrust the authorial women characters with their desire to be in the center. In the long novel they enter into the enlightenment project after the failure of triangular love affair. For them the love story itself was the game of desire. So the enlightenment project is the displacement of general desire. It has the meaning of compensatory desire. Because the ethnical ideology is not the belief but the compensatory desire, Lee, Tae Joon s heroes easily return to the general reality and fall into the conflict of double desire once more. These conflict is symbolized by the parallel dialogue between two authorial characters. Lee, Tae Joon s double desire is also reflected into the authorial attitude to the low class people. he usually describes them with the class determined characteristics. They are the persons of every sorts of drives. They have no idea of the wrong social system or structure where they exist. But Lee, Tae Joon as a ethnical ideologist reveals the sympathy to them simultaneously.
Reconsidering about his passive heroism, Lee Tae Joon adopts women characters as his authorial ego. Most of Lee Tae Joon s women characters are in the pre symbolic stage. They are the desirable ego of Lee, Tae Joon who is always in the dual castration complex from dual reality. The women characters as the desirable egos of the author, have activity, and pursue their desire for the general world, that is desire for money, social status, power, and western culture. Being the desirable heroines who represent the author s anti-patriarchal system, they also adventure into single person or divorce. Because of their existential position as the desirable ego, they easily transgress the ethnical social norm that one must not compromise with the colonial power. They also reveal the elitism too much.
The significance of the stage of women character is that it is the preparatory stage for the author s conversion to socialism. In this stage the oppressed money theme rises above the surface. The activity and unsurpassed desire of the female ego displaced into the male ego in the later stage of Lee, Tae Joon s narrative of authorial double desire. For the first time the man character actively pursues his general desire without concealing and he becomes the tycoon. As a tycoon the hero marries two women who symbolize the ethnical desire and general desire, respectively.
In the final stage of the narrative of the authorial double desire, the real author fulfills his self regard or egocentrism by uniting the two desire openly. He actively rationalizes his individual general desire endowing with the ethnical desire. In this stage, the dichotomy of I and the other recurs to his self defense mechanism. Oriented in situ immobilization of a functional tyrosinase on microcrystalline cellulose effectively incorporates DOPA residues in bioengineered mussel adhesive protein

Catechol-containing polymers such as mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs) are attractive as biocompatible adhesive biomaterials, and the catecholic amino acid 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl-L-alanine (DOPA) is considered a key molecule in underwater mussel adhesion. Tyrosinases can specifically convert tyrosine to DOPA without any cofactors. However, their catalytic properties still need to be adjusted to minimize unwanted DOPA oxidation via their diphenolase activity and catechol instability at neutral and basic pH values in the reaction products.
Methods and Results
In this work, we constructed a novel functional tyrosinase, mTyr-CNK_CBM, by fusion of mTyr-CNK with a cellulose-binding motif (CBM) for oriented in situ immobilization on microcrystalline cellulose via the C-terminal CBM without any additional purification steps. mTyr-CNK_CBM showed optimal catalytic activity at pH 4.5–6.5 and room temperature and had a high monophenolase/diphenolase activity ratio (Vmaxmono/Vmaxdi = 2.08 at pH 6 and 25°C). mTyr-CNK_CBM exhibited 2.17-fold higher (as a unimmobilized free enzyme) and similarly high (upon immobilization) in vitro DOPA modification of a bioengineered MAP compared to a commercially available mushroom tyrosinase. Moreover, the immobilized mTyr-CNK_CBM showed long-term storability and improved reusability.
Conclusions
These results clearly demonstrate a strong potential for practical use of immobilized mTyr-CNK_CBM as a monophenol monooxygenase in preparing biocompatible DOPA-tethered biomaterials and other catechol-containing polymers.11Nsciescopu
Marine-derived natural polymer-based bioprinting ink for biocompatible, durable, and controllable 3D constructs
No full text3D bioprinting (3DBP) is a rapid solid-form fabrication method with a high degree of automation and reproducibility for constructing structural bioscaffolds. However, the development of the 3DBP field has been slowed due to difficulty in acquiring suitable ink materials especially with natural polymers that satisfy all requirements, such as printability, mechanical integrity, and biocompatibility. In this study, a new 3DBP ink of bioengineered sea anemone-derived silk-like protein (aneroin) was used based on its durable mechanical properties and biodegradability in previous studies. The hyaluronic acid and mussel adhesive protein (MAP) were applied for improved printability and cell adhesiveness, respectively. The aneroin-based 3DBP ink (named aneroin ink) was solidified in a few second by dityrosine photo-crosslinking, and its fast reaction was suitable for noncollapsed spaces in printed 3D constructs. Actual-sized human ear, vascular graft, and rectangular multi-layered lattice were bioprinted with high controllability and durable structural integrity. Thus, the developed aneroin ink showed good printability, structural integrity, and biocompatibility for successful application to the construction of various 3D shaped bioscaffolds in tissue and biomedical engineering fields.11Nsciescopu

The study having a historical schem can&apos;t be explained except the author&apos;s sense of reality and history, thus, first of all, this work came busimess to investigate his times and historical view. With focusing on the circumstances in 1930s and studying papers written by Kim Tae Joon, I coule make clear ideological grounds of him in writing &quot;The history of Chosun&apos;s novel&quot;. Through those processes, his ideal scheme proved itself to be concentrated on the pursuit of global universality The was a certain confronting way against the movement of &quot;Chosun-Hak(朝鮮學)&quot; which was led by nationalists, and they had recognifed korean history in the view of speciality, But Kim Tae Joon had thought that claiming the pecularities of nation was the same as historical view of the facist. It was criticized by him under the socialism.
That kind of his sense on the reality car explain the history of Chosun in universal development law of world history, and it is well expressed in his methodological stance which he gives special weight to cultural exchange between nations.
In fact when I examined periodization, a category of novel and methodology in &quot;The history of Chosun&apos;s novel&quot;, I could take three features. First Kim Tae Joon had an intention to recognize a contemporary novel newly with writing the history of novel. 사적 체계를 가진 연구는 그 저자의 현실인식과 역사인식을 배제하고 설명할 수 없는 것이므로, 본고는 먼저 김태준의 시대와 그의 사관을 고찰하는 작업을 하였다. 이와 같이 1930년대의 현실적 상황과 김태준의 논문을 중심으로「조선소설사」저술의 사상적 배경을 살피는 과정에서 김태준의 사상체계가 세계사적 보편성의 추구에 집중되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 당시 민족주의자들이 내세운 &apos;조선학운동&apos;의 특수사관에 대한 나름의 대응방식이었다고 할 수 있다. 김태준은 우리 민족의 특수성을 강조하는 것이 제국주의 파시즘의 특수사관과 다를 것이 없다고 보고 이를 사회주의 사상에 입각하여 비판하고 있다. 그리고 이러한 그의 현실인식이, 조선역사를 세계사의 보편적 발전 원리에 맞추어 설명한다든가 문화의 국가간 교류를 중시하는 연구태도에 잘 드러나고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
실제로 「조선소설사」를 그것의 시대구분과 소설범주, 작품연구방법등에 걸쳐 살펴본 결과 세가지 특징을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 첫째는 김태준의 소설사 기술이 당대 소설을 새롭게 인식하기 위한 의도를 갖고 있었다는 점이다. 그는 민족문학의 독자성이 전통속에 흐르고 있으며 근대소설의 모태는 고소설임을 강조하고 있다. 둘째는 소설이 가지는 민중문학으로서의 가치를 발견했다는 점인데, 이는 민중을 역사발전의 주체로 생각했던 김태준의 사관과 깊이 관련된다. 그리고 세번째 특징은 민족문학의 독자성과 함께 문학의 세계적 보편성이 공존함을 설명하기 위해 중국문학과의 교류를 중시한다는 점이다. 김태준은 이를 통해 우리 소설이 동아시아 諸國의 소설과 비슷한 수준을 갖고 있음을 보여주고자 하였다.
「조선소설사」의 전통을 수용하는 자세와 중국문학의 영향을 파악하는 방법 등은 시사하는 바가 크다. 왜냐하면 다음 시기의 소설사들은 「조선소설사」의 영향을 많이 받았으나 오히려 고소설과 근대소설을 분리시켜 전통단절론을 심화시켰으며 중국문학의 영향을 무리하게 강조함으로써 우리 소설을 중국 소설사의 체계에 기대어 연구하려는 인상을 주기 때문이다. 이제「조선소설사」에 대한 보다 충분한 연구가 이루어져야만 「조선소설사」를 잘못 이해하여 생긴 우리 소설 연구의 오류를 수정할 수 있을 것이다.論文槪要 = ⅰ

Survival of Verwey transition in gadolinium-doped ultrasmall magnetite nanoparticles
No full textWe have demonstrated that the Verwey transition, which is highly sensitive to impurities, survives in anisotropic Gd-doped magnetite nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy analysis shows that the nanoparticles are uniformly distributed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and EDS mapping analysis confirm Gd-doping on the nanoparticles. The Verwey transition of the Gd-doped magnetite nanoparticles is robust and the temperature dependence of the magnetic moment (zero field cooling and field cooling) shows the same behaviour as that of the Verwey transition in bulk magnetite, at a lower transition temperature (similar to 110 K). In addition, irregularly shaped nanoparticles do not show the Verwey transition whereas square-shaped nanoparticles show the transition. Mossbauer spectral analysis shows that the slope of the magnetic hyperfine field and the electric quadrupole splitting change at the same temperature, meaning that the Verwey transition occurs at similar to 110 K. These results would provide new insights into understanding the Verwey transition in nano-sized materials.113sciescopu

Background
Having observed a tendency towards femoral overgrowth (FO) of the affected limb in children with atrophic-type congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT), we aimed to identify the incidence of, contributors to, and patterns of FO among such children.
Methods
We retrospectively evaluated 55 children with CPT, 22 with prepseudarthrosis and 33 with atrophic-type CPT from 1989 to 2012. FO was defined as an affected femoral segment ≥10mm longer than the contralateral segment. We investigated FO incidences in prepseudarthrosis versus atrophic-type CPT. Sex, laterality, coexistence of neurofibromatosis type 1, development of frank pseudarthrosis, extent of tibial shortening, shortening in foot height, deformity severity, distraction osteogenesis (DO) treatment, refracture, increased femoral neck-shaft angle, tibiofemoral angle, and ankle valgus angle were investigated to identify potential contributors to FO. Patterns of FO were also determined.
Results
At initial presentation, 11 patients exhibited a mean of 13mm (10–23) of FO. However, the nature of FO changed over time during the follow-up period (mean, 10.8years; range, 4.3–19.3). At the last follow-up, 14 patients presented with a mean of 12mm (10–18) of FO. With the exception of one patient, all patients with FO presented with atrophic-type CPT. Frank pseudarthrosis, DO treatment, and increased femoral neck-shaft angle were significantly associated with FO (p = 0.016, p = 0.001, and p = 0.005, respectively). Diverse patterns of FO were observed.
Conclusions
FO of the affected limb is frequently encountered in patients with atrophic-type CPT. A compensatory response to frank pseudarthrosis, DO treatment, and neurofibromatosis may play a role in the diverse patterns of FO
