Fragile
No full textLe Corbusier definiva l’architettura come “la costruzione di un rifugio” dove “si mette al riparo il corpo, il cuore e il pensiero” (Le Corbusier, 1937). La postmodernità ha poi scoperto la fragilità delle grandi narrazioni – tra cui quella del Moderno – che si traduce oggi nella coscienza della fragilità degli ecosistemi (Mosco, 2023). Pensare il progetto come qualcosa di fragile può risultare paradossale, quasi una sconfitta, ma si tratta di un destino al quale non è possibile sottrarsi: possiamo quindi impegnarci per convivere, collaborare e includere nel progetto tale condizione, che da criticità può diventare risorsa. Il Novecento ha prodotto l’agenda architettonica del XXI secolo: le tipologie di manufatti che hanno dato struttura e forma alla città dalla fine del XIX secolo, oggi si pongono come “oggetti” disponibili e complessi da riutilizzare
(La Varra, 2023). Il progetto della modificazione implica un ripensamento del concetto di “patrimonio”, da bene ereditato da conservare immutato, verso una sua accezione più ampia che ne preveda l’uso presente e la trasmissione alle generazioni future (Andriani, 2010; Ashworth e Graham, 2016).
Fragile vuole indagare il ruolo che, su questo tema, possono assumere le discipline del progetto, richiamando la distribuzione di nuovi orizzonti teorici, rimarcando il ruolo della teoria come guida del progetto (Marini e Gambardella, 2024) e stimolando l’utilizzo di nuovi dispositivi e strumenti per accogliere sguardi trasversali. Si vuole indagare la fragilità per mettere a fuoco gli aspetti critici e le possibili opportunità, avviando un dibattito interdisciplinare intorno a un tema ritenuto significativo. In un’epoca in cui gli scarti superano le risorse, l’architettura diviene la “misura” sia per valutare che per affrontare il mondo (Turan, 2019) alla luce della policrisi planetaria che stiamo vivendo, che ci spinge a cercare di comprendere la complessità dei problemi, senza mai cedere a una visione parziale, verificando le informazioni e accettando le incertezze (Morin e Kern, 2019). Nella condizione di costante evoluzione, che contraddistingue il contemporaneo, attraverso il racconto di architettura, Fragile vuole provare a influenzare la percezione collettiva facendo emergere dei possibili approcci innovativi (Corbellini, 2016)

No full textL’architettura dei luoghi del lavoro è una delle dimensioni progettuali che più offre grandi possibilità di innovazione e sperimentazione. Le trasformazioni del lavoro comportano un radicale ripensamento degli spazi dove ‘si fanno le cose’. Il presente volume raccoglie alcune esperienze, narrate dai protagonisti/progettisti, delle architetture recenti che più hanno articolato questo tema. Edifici dismessi e recuperati per nuove forme di produzione, luoghi del lavoro immateriale: lo scenario dei casi presentati sembra una implicita rassegna del paesaggio del lavoro del XXI secolo.

Reuse and Reconversion as Sustainability Paradigm for Marginal Areas Regeneration
Full text linkImagining the future has become an increasingly arduous exercise especially if we consider the constant anthropic modifications and their consequences to which the environment is subjected. In the face of climate change, the reduction in land consumption and the energy efficiency of buildings are some of the missions to be pursued to achieve an adequate level of sustainability, in the constant search for inclusive, safe, and durable urban settlements. Trying to rebalance a relationship, which has been compromised for too long, between nature and artifice can only take place through an ecosystem approach capable of promoting conservation, productivity, and resilience. These indications become the tracks to formulate exploratory projects of urban regeneration for marginal territories, linking, through a multidisciplinary approach, the architectural scale and the urban scale. In particular, this contribution addresses the debated topic, especially in the Italian context, of possible sustainable transformation scenarios for inland areas, with a focus on hamlets and villages and reflects on the possibility of working on the resilience of territories either by recovering the heritage of villages for housing purposes or enhancing the ecological–environmental component through renaturalization

No full textProcrear Buenos Aires Social housing is a significant problem in the city of Buenos Aires, where obsolete practices are still in use when compared to the typical concepts of urban and territorial regeneration linked to the European context. The start-up of an international research project between the University of Udine and the University of Morón, in the form of a workshop as a design research tool, has made it possible to experiment new methodologies of doing architecture to try to pursue objectives of development and improvement of public regeneration processes in the Argentinean context, introducing concepts such as recycling, reuse, refunctionalisation and emphasising the importance of participatory processes in social housing practices. This experience made it possible to provide a concrete contribution to accelerate an improvement process involving all processes related to the design of public space, through sustainability practices and strategic visions

Urban Regeneration and Sustainable Building Transformation: Wood As a Building Material
Full text linkThe current cultural debate in urban and architectural fields - but not only - sees the emergence of increasing attention to environmental sustainability and related issues, which inevitably condition all the different phases of the project. Reducing land consumption, coping with climate change, improving the energy efficiency of buildings, as well as increasing their level of living comfort, are just some of the goals to be pursued to achieve a generalized improvement of the built environment through application of the typical principles of the so-called urban regeneration. Looking at the internal areas of the Italian territory, concepts are evoked such as the reuse of materials, the reconversion of buildings and sometimes the renaturalization, which is a less usual choice for a highly man-made territory like the Italian one. In this case, therefore, the use of wood as a preferential material for the aforementioned operations, a material which, over the last few decades, has greatly improved from a structural and performance point of view. Finally, a proposal will be made, carried out with the Municipality of Resia, moved precisely by these principles and aimed at being a sort of “model” - and also a stimulus - for the future of planning in these areas

Il volume prova a mettere in evidenza l’esigenza di costruire un nuovo racconto capace forse di restituire gli elementi essenziali di un profondo cambiamento dello statuto del progetto contemporaneo, orientato non solo a inseguire i principi della sostenibilità ma anche a rivelare possibilità latenti nello spazio per costruire un nuovo disegno per il futuro delle città
