spain in the field of translation during the years immediately following
World War ii. an attempt will be made to understand the decision making process which led to the translation of some works and the exclusion
of others, by focusing on translation as a cultural mediation tool. such
decision making process, involving primarily the exiled rumanian community resident in Madrid, reveals the “cultural and ideological border”
that characterized this community of exiles during the early 1950s in the
spain governed by Franco. From the spanish side, translation involves a
fondness toward rumania, by virtue of a declared ideological affinity,
which comes directly from exiled spanish intellectuals. From this double
perspective, an attempt will be made to arrive at conclusions concerning
the quantity and quality of rumanian literary works translated into
spanish during the second part of the 1900s
