A New Vision Regarding Spatial Tensions in Urban Design
No full textTogether with the urban movements from the 1970s, the 1980s or the contemporary ones, with conflicts regarding the right to the city, social emancipation, political oppression or environmental issues, a different kind of conflict is also entangling the contemporary city: spatial tensions. It is a weaker but more persistent form of conflict happening in any city’s everyday life between opposing forces. Far away from violent conflicts and riotous surges, contemporary tensions are usually hidden, sometimes implicit or explicit: the opposing forces do not turn into a struggle but remain noiselessly and dynamically tense. Also if such a specific form of conflict is many times weak and invisible, it generates strong and relevant transformations of the city: spatial tensions are represented by minute, continuous, overlaid, dilated over time and still in progress modifications of space

No full textC’è un modo di fare impresa (produttiva, manifatturiera, ma anche agricola) dedicata al profitto, ma anche sociale o etica, che gioca un ruolo imprevisto sul piano dell’organizzazione della società e della realizzazione della democrazia. È un’impresa che sta a metà tra gli individui e le istituzioni, e che spesso si prende cura del territorio. Si tratta di una nuova forma di ibridazione tra produzione e welfare, in cui le forme e gli spazi dei servizi entrano all’interno dei recinti delle singole aziende, legandosi al concetto di responsabilità sociale d’impresa che, in modo sussidiario e spesso auto-organizzato, sposta funzioni assistenziali dal pubblico al privato, dalla città allo spazio industriale. “Corpo intermedio” pioniere che in situazioni fragili, ma talvolta anche in ecosistemi solidi, si sostituisce a organizzazioni e associazionismo per ripensare il modo in cui gli individui affrontano i propri bisogni, o il modo in cui partecipano alla vita civile. In dialogo con le istituzioni, le imprese presentate nel contributo hanno la forza di ripensare la città, aggregano soggetti e si fanno capofila di progetti. In un periodo di forti tagli delle risorse pubbliche e di profonda ridefinizione socio-demografica e occupazionale, le forme di secondo welfare, dunque, rappresentano, da un lato, un’opportunità per la riforma e la riqualificazione urbana; dall’altro, consentono di ampliare la dotazione di servizi, dando risposta a nuove e plurali domande sociali. Nei luoghi della crisi dell’economia distrettuale del nord Italia, nelle aree interne dell’Appennino, nei territori produttivi della Sicilia, ci sono imprese che realizzano un diverso modo di vivere insieme
Lyapunov exponents from geodesic spread in configuration space
No full textThe exact form of the Jacobi–Levi-Civita (JLC) equation for geodesic spread is here explicitly worked out at arbitrary dimension for the configuration space manifold [Formula Presented] of a standard Hamiltonian system, equipped with the Jacobi (or kinetic energy) metric [Formula Presented] As the Hamiltonian flow corresponds to a geodesic flow on [Formula Presented] the JLC equation can be used to study the degree of instability of the Hamiltonian flow. It is found that the solutions of the JLC equation are closely resembling the solutions of the standard tangent dynamics equation which is used to compute Lyapunov exponents. Therefore the instability exponents obtained through the JLC equation are in perfect quantitative agreement with usual Lyapunov exponents. This work completes a previous investigation that was limited only to two degrees of freedom systems. © 1997 The American Physical Society

This self-regulating governance model reinforces the alliances between the second and the third sector and leaves the public institution out of the development discourse by defining new actors, new competencies, and new imaginaries. Moreover, since this strengthening of the fabric of society arises from the tension between territories, it is specifically visible in medial territories and is a key feature of planetary urbanization. Far away from laissez-faire, the territorial tension promotes a redefinition
of the concept of governance based on the principle of subsidiarity where the main risk is preserving the general interest over private and individual interests. No full textPer riflettere sulle più recenti trasformazioni dei sistemi e dei territori manifatturieri italiani, si è ritenuto utile osservare in modo più ravvicinato e comparato alcuni casi “estremi” – o narrati come tali – di sistemi distrettuali: un caso di contrazione e crisi (Biella), un caso di successo e consolidamento (Sassuolo), un caso di profonda trasformazione e rispecializzazione (Prato). Cosa sta succedendo in e a questi territori? C’è ancora qualcosa che accomuna questi luoghi/sistemi? La categoria interpretativa originaria è dunque ancora valida? Infine, i territori distrettuali si caratterizzano ancora per una loro peculiarità o sono sempre più omologati tra loro? Quanto conta (se conta) il territorio – con la sua materialità e specificità – nei processi di sviluppo locale
