Oral History Interview with Ralph L. Cerny, September 18, 2000
Interview with Army veteran Ralph L. Cerny. The interview includes Cerny's personal experiences about being a combat infantryman in the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II, joining the Illinois National Guard, federalization of the Illinois National Guard, training at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, shipping to Camp Darwin, Australia, and combat around Mount Austen on Guadalcanal. Additionally, Cerny talks about the formation of the American Division and landings at New Caledonia, transferring of the division to Guadalcanal, the fate of Japanese prisoners-of-war, evacuation to the Fiji islands for rest and recuperation, landings on Bougainville, patrol and reconnaissance activities on Bougainville, his rotation back to the States, stateside duty as a drill instructor at Fort McClellan, and his postwar career
On the Hybrid Cerny-Road Coloring Problem and Hamiltonian Paths
The Hybrid Cerny-Road coloring problem is investigated for graphs with Hamiltonian paths. We prove that if an aperiodic, strongly connected digraph of costant outdegree with n vertices has an Hamiltonian path, then it admits a synchronizing coloring with a reset word of length 2(n - 2)(n - 1) + 1. The proof is based upon some new results concerning locally strongly transitive automata
A new species of Diaphorocera from Morocco with unclear relationships and a key to the species (Coleoptera, Meloidae, Cerocomini)
Diaphorocera neglecta sp. n. from Morocco is described. Photos of the new species are provided and male
features are figured. The new species has intermediate characters between the groups of D. hemprichi and D.
promelaena as defined in the literature. These groups are discussed and a new key to the species is presented
Neighborhood phenomenon in a housing estate - case study Cerny Most
The focus of this master thesis is on the phenomenon of neighborhood and social
relations between residents of the housing estate Cerny Most. The main objective of this
thesis is to determinate, what social relations and interactions are between residents
of Cerny Most and how different are these relations and interactions between
established residents and newcomers.
The research is a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
The quantitative part is based on a survey, which is focused on determinates
of neighborhood, for example the residential stability, the resident´s connection to Cerny Most
and spending of free time in the locality depending on location of residence and length
of staying in the location. Research is also focused on neighborly relations and social
interactions between residents of Cerny Most, but also between established residents
and newcomers. Research deals with the satisfaction in the place of residence, quality
of neighborly relations, purposeful meeting of neighbors and involvement in the
community life. The qualitative part is consist of field research, own photographs of the
area and semistructured interviews which help to better understanding to detected
areas. From the survey results, statistic calculations and semistructured interviews is
compile the plastic image of neighborly relations and interactions between the residents
of Cerny Most

A propos du Cerny-Sud : un ensemble culturel néolithique de grande étendue dans la France moyenne
ABSTRACT A least fifty sites distributed over a large part of central France can be attributed to the « Cerny-Sud » itself part of the Cerny Group. Possible relationships with the Néolithique Ancien Centre Atlantique are examined. External influences in the material and funerary structures are interpreted as reflection of contacts with neighbouring cultures and not as characteristics explaining the apparition and development of the « Cerny-Sud ».Constantin Claude. Le mobilier en matières dures animales en milieu funéraire Cerny : symbolisme et socio-économie.
Investigation of significances of funerary goods in the Cerny. A structuration of the funerary set is highligted and a valuation of hunting or war, which appears disconnected from the economical domain.

Flexible teg on the ankle for measuring the power generated while performing activities of daily living
In this work, a commercial flexible thermoelectric generator (f-TEG) was used to harvest the body thermal energy during the execution of activities of daily living (ADL). The f-TEG was placed at the level of the ankle, and the performed activities were sitting at the desk and walking. In the first stage of measurements, tests were performed to choose the value of the resistor load that maximizes the power output. Then, while performing ADL, the values of generated power were in the range from 100 to 450 μW. Moreover, while users are walking, the pattern of the output signal of f-TEG is compatible to a sine function with frequency close to that one of human gait. This preliminary result may represent a new way to study the movement of human body to recognize ADL
Multiple and differentiated contributions to the male gene pool of pastoral and farmer populations of the African Sahel
The African Sahel is conducive to studies of divergence/admixture genetic events as a result of its population history being so closely related with past climatic changes. Today, it is a place of the co-existence of two differing food-producing subsistence systems, i.e., that of sedentary farmers and nomadic pastoralists, whose populations have likely been formed from several dispersed indigenous hunter-gatherer groups. Using new methodology, we show here that the male gene pool of the extant populations of the African Sahel harbors signatures of multiple and differentiated contributions from different genetic sources. We also show that even if the Fulani pastoralists and their neighboring farmers share high frequencies of four Y chromosome subhaplogroups of E, they have drawn on molecularly differentiated subgroups at different times. These findings, based on combinations of SNP and STR polymorphisms, add to our previous knowledge and highlight the role of differences in the demographic history and displacements of the Sahelian populations as a major factor in the segregation of the Y chromosome lineages in Africa. Interestingly, within the Fulani pastoralist population as a whole, a differentiation of the groups from Niger is characterized by their high presence of R1b-M343 and E1b1b1-M35. Moreover, the R1b-M343 is represented in our dataset exclusively in the Fulani group and our analyses infer a north-to-south African migration route during a recent past. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc
