Search for Rare Particles with the MACRO Detector

    No full text
We present the results of the search for rare particles (magnetic monopoles, nuclearites, WIMPs and LIPs) with the MACRO detector. For magnetic monopoles (the main goal of the experiment) our limit is approximately 0.4 times the Parker bound for 10^(-4) < beta < 10^(-1)

SEARCH FOR SUPERMASSIVE MAGNETIC MONOPOLES WITH THE MACRO DETECTOR AT THE GRAN SASSO LABORATORY

We present the results of the search for supermassive magnetic monopoles with the MACRO experiment. Our detector is equipped with three independent subdetectors (liquid scintillation counters, limited streamer tubes and nuclear track detectors), operating in different ranges of monopole velocity. In several years of data taking no candidates were found; the present flux upper limits are at the level of half the Parker Bound for beta > 10(-4); for 10(-4) < beta < 5 x 10(-2) the limit is the best existing

Latest results of the MEG experiment

We present recent results of the MEG experiment, which has been searching for the Lepton Flavour Violating decay μ+ → e+ γ since several years. In a combined dataset corresponding to 3.6×10^14 stopped muons on target we didn’t find any evidence for this decay and we established an upper bound on the μ+ → e+ γ branching ratio of 5.7×10^−13 at 90% C.L., which improves our world best limit by a factor four. We discuss also the expected final sensitivity of the MEG experiment

We discuss the status of the MEG experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). We review the experimental techniques, the development and building of the apparatus and its expected perfomances

    Neutrinos from supernovae: experimental status

    No full text
I discuss the state of the art in the search for stellar collapse neutrinos and the perspectives of this field. The implications for neutrino physics of a high statistics supernova neutrino burst detection by the network of operating experiments are also reviewed

Lepton Flavour Violation Experiments in LHC Era

I review the present status of Lepton Flavour Violation Experiments involving muons and taus and the future perspectives of this physics field

Lepton flavour violation: present and future experiments

    No full text
Lepton flavour violating effects are predicted in many supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model at a measurable level. Since the Standard Model background is completely negligible, the observation of such effects would be a strong evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model and for the supersymmetric frame. In this talk I review the present status of the lepton flavour violation experiments involving muons and tau's and discuss the sensitivity improvements which can be expected from future high intensity accelerators
