Neoliberismo, interventismo, keynesismo. Alcune considerazioni sulla crisi economica odierna.
This is a synthetic analysis of the crisis of the world financial system. The author underlines the absence in the capitalist system of efficient stabilizing market mechanisms and the need to distinguish generic forms of interventism from Keynesism
Sullo statuto teorico dell'offerta di moneta: un dibattito con Augusto Graziani
In this article the debate between Prof. Augusto Graziani and the author on the monetary theory of production is carried further on. The main purpose of the paper is to delineate - along Keynesian lines and in opposition to the theory of the credit money circuit - a consistent and realistic view of the nature of the supply of money, general enough to embrace as limit-cases both a strictly endogenous and a strictly exogenous money supply. The interdependence of the supply and demand for money is explicitely recognized, as well as the central bank ability to control in the short term either the money supply or its supply price
Napoleoni: oltre lo stereotipo
The article is concerned with the critical assessment of the theoretical work of the late Italian economist Claudio Napoleoni (1924-1988). The author reviews some recent works on the subject and underlines his points of consent and dissent from them. The latter relate with the interpretation of the nature of Napoleoni's scientific program of research, with his ideological and methodological position and with his attitude towards Marxism, marginalism, Keynesism and "neo-ricardism". A central point in the discussion is the question of Napoleoni's alleged abandonment, return and final detachment from Marxian economic views. A fairly new portrait of this unconventional figure of social scientist comes out from these pages
La teoria monetaria di Keynes e i teorici del circuito: a proposito di un libro di Augusto Graziani
In this article the Author reviews a recent book by Prof. Augusto Graziani on the monetary theory of production. It is maintained that, in spite of its Keynesian title, the book is not really Keynesian in character and provides a rather controversial picture of Keynes' views on the working of a monetary economy. The paper has a twofold purpose, as it is intended to be both a contribution to a critical assessment of the theories of the "monetary circuit" and an appraisal of Prof. Graziani's interpretation of the historical development of Keynes' monetary thought
A theory of capital as value in progress
This is a paper on the theory of capital. It deals with the role of capital in a cost-of-production theory of value in which both labour and capital are directly productive. The guidelines of an analytical method are proposed. Marx’s ‘monetary expression of abstract labour-value’ (MEV) is used as price-index. It is preferred to the ‘monetary expression of labour time’ (MELT), exclusively focused on living labour, suggested by some neo-Marxist scholars during the ’New Value Controversy’. The author, a critical Marxist, develops the trace provided by Marx in his Grundrisse ’Fragment on Machines’, where he pointed out the need to abandon the labour theory of value and to rely on a broader labour-and-capital monetary theoretical construction. Due attention is paid in this essay to the time and money dimensions of capital and to the roles of both real and financial capital
La condizione umana e il cammino di liberazione nel pensiero di Claudio Napoleoni
The object of this paper is a reflection on the significance of some of the last writings and speeches of the late professor Claudio Napoleoni (1924-1988). He was not only a well known theoretical economist and historian of economic thought but also a competent philosophical anthropologist and an important Italian left wing politician (an influential member of the Italian Parliament), who aimed at reconciling his “primitive” Christian faith with a critical and revisionist kind of marxism. The author of this paper discusses Napoleoni‟s peculiar vision of the place of man
in the world, submits a new interpretation of his last thoughts on the human fight for liberation from the pervasive dominance of capital, on the founding of the laicization of politics and on other important topics, and points out the enduring validity of his truly remarkable analysis of the main tendances of the capitalist system in the post-industrial era
On Some Equilibrium and Disequilibrium Theories of Endogenous Money: A Structuralist View
This paper is intended to be a contribution to a historico-critical analysis of some recent theories of endogenous money supply. Not a systematic survey of the literature on the subject. It is mainly concerned with the internal consistency of the „circuit. theories developed in the 1980.s and early 1990.s and their later reappraisals and adjournments. It deals, inter alia, with some theoretical and practical problems concerning the monetary equilibrium framework of some of such theories, the endogenous or exogenous nature of the supply of money and of its single components, the relative importance of the different functions of money, the distinction between money and bank credit, the „closure. of a monetary circuit and the institutional role of a central bank as a lender of last resort. The author is a non-fundamentalist post-Keynesian monetary theorist. He regards money demand and supply as two strictly connected variables, whose structural interdependence precludes a causal approach to an analysis of the way money enters the circular income flow
Phenotypic Characterization of Yeasts Isolated from Yaghnobi Fermented Milk
Introduction
In the Yaghnob Valley in Tajikistan lives an isolated human population, who still utilize ancient fermentation methods to produce fermented milk as one of their main foods. The area is very isolated, so theinhabitants and their diet have remained protected without influence or contamination from the surroundingworld. Thus, it is interesting to study the microbial biodiversity of their fermented food. The aim of the present work is thephenotypic characterization of yeasts isolated from Yaghnobi fermented milk.
Materials and Methods
Thirty yeast isolates were obtained from the original Yaghnobi fermented milk and from the sameone reproduced at home for three years. The isolation was performed on M17, MRS, WL,YPD and YPD plus chloramphenicol. Phenotypic characterization were assessed by growth i) on different carbon sources, ii) in presence of ox bile, iii) at high temperatures, iv) in acidic condition and v) in presence of hydrogen peroxide. Also the invasiveness in YPD and hyphae formation was studied.
Results
The 30 yeast strains, belonging to Kluyveromyces marxianus, Pichia fermentans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae plus one Kazachstania unispora and one Kluyveromyces lactis. revealed different phenotypes within the same species; e.g. invasiveness from 0 to 3 among the isolates of both S. cerevisiae and P. fermentans, the latter species also showed large variations in thermo-tolerance (inhibition from 40°Cto 46°C), and varying tolerance to acidic conditions. Only the strain of K. lactis and about 50%of K .marxianus strains grew at 46°C. All strains of K. marxianus grew at ox bile up to 2%. Of the S. cerevisiae strains, 50% grew in ox bile up to 2%, while two strains were inhibited already at 0.5%.
Conclusions
The data obtained suggest the presenceof yeasts with interesting probiotic properties in Yaghnobi fermented milk, such as the ability to survive in harsh gastrointestinal environment. The complete probiotic characterization of these yeasts will be investigated further
